    Interesting theory

Had a friend tell me that a bettor's unit size should typically be right around what they make per hour at their job. I thought this was a decent concept providing the person has other areas of their life under control.

Sound about right. If I kept my betting size at around $20 Dollars I'd be good. I give my mom all my money anyways so not really applicable here. Welcome to the forum

Disagree. For me my unit is 8x my hourly wage. 1 unit should equal 1 days' work!

Your friend works an hourly job, and you're taking advice from them? Jesus Christ.

Sounds like a good rule for a recreational bettor that does not wager regularly.

But if you want to grow your bankroll you must move your unit size up as your roll grows

Does not matter how much you make if you have 100k saved up you can bet pretty big.

Read about Kelly Criterion. The difficult part is to determine the percentile chance of winning a given bet. The bank has to be set aside -money on deposit with the sportsbook or if you play credit - what you have set aside in the safe or a savings account. But, he states the obvious - track yourself and unless there is a history of 53% wins - it is paper bets only until the positive numbers are there.

The people that lose do not keep track at all - barely keep records - brutal truth is they don't want to know how much they have lost.

But, we did not discuss the number of bets - your guy is about 25 bucks an hour and could put 1500 away - and play for fun - 25 a bet? But, if he bets on 20 events on Saturday - he could easily lose 250 on that day. So, I do agree with you that 1 hour of wages for 1 bet sounds reasonable. We don't know the risk tolerance of the individual or aversion as the case may be.
