Is Tommy John Surgery on the Horizon for Gerrit Cole?

He will not make his start originally scheduled for Monday against the Cubs and will instead visit a specialist in Los Angeles to have his right elbow examined.

To be clear, note that I was only posing the question. I am not saying it will happen, but always worrisome when someone sees a specialist for an elbow issue.

JJ is like the clueless guy that believes he's right just because he refuses to shut up. Eventually everyone just gives up trying to reason with him and lets him ramble to himself.

It's the generation of pussies raised in Trump's America. Pitchers can not pitch injured like the old times.

I just hope it doesn't get to the point where the surgery becomes an elective instead of necessary.

All of these pitchers have specialized in baseball since a young age. Way more wear and tear than in the past where baseball only played in the summer.

Get the hell out of here with common sense. That isn't allowed, you need to pay more attention.

They play and throw too much

Overtraining is a major link to more injury

Some have speculated that it has already gotten to that point for some guys. You always hear stories about guys that have improved velocity after the surgery, so in some cases, when in doubt do it!

I agree with you that we are probably already there. The problem I see is, where will it end? What other surgeries will become available to enhance performance? Drugs or surgery or ???

While this has happened, getting surgery on a healthily ligament will not good and in fact endanger the pitcher more . Tales of players getting "elective" surgery and throwing harder are guy who have partially damaged UCLs as it is.

Pirates could use him back in that weak rotation.

Maybe someone will do an analysis like "Concussion" for baseball and then the league will limit the amount of pitches a pitcher can throw in a game and/or a time period.

Owners have to be idiots anymore to give more than 3 year guranteed contracts anymore

They need to be like nfl so they do not get burned with injuries

Elbow obviously contributing factor though. He was fine until he came off of his first DL stint, been awful ever since.
