Torres is a nice prospect, but the guy is in single-A ball, the Cubs have excess young middle infield talent and the Cubs seem to be able to produce an endless supply of positional talent. McKinney came from the A's and has slid in prospect rankings this year. The rest is surplus. It's a nice get for the Yanks, but this is not the Cubs blowing their load by any means. They may still trade more pieces in the next week for more help.

Deal just gone done an hour ago. You checked the odds within the last hour? What odds are you quoting? Already the favorite, so it's hard to change much. Plus, some sort of deals were expected. Cubs odds are incrementally better due to the move. Perhaps they go from 30% to 33% chance. For a favorite, no single move can change odds more than a few percentage points.

Because this move won't make public that aren't already on the Cubs put money on them. Plus the line is already shaded because how much the public loves the Cubs. Odds won't move on them until playoffs. This is a big move helping the shaky bullpen.

Cubs might win the World Series, though obtaining Chapman doesn't do anything about their all-or-nothing approach at the plate.

Chapman will not be a Cubs uniform for longer than three months. So I hope this is worth it, because as Archie pointed out earlier in the thread, they basically haven't blown a lead from the 7th inning on all year. Not sure how this makes them "better."

Yankees long term plan. Trade Chapman for as many prospects as possible (check); only lose Chapman for half a season, then resign him at the end of the year for big bucks. Genius!

Of course they will....Already have a bunch of top 50-100 prospects and will add more I'm sure in the next week

Then they will poach a few big name stars in free agency over the next few seasons and hopefully cap it off with Bryce Harper

They clear out a ton of overpaid bums this offseason

Yup. I enjoyed the good days and while the yanks rebuild I just pretend baseball doesn't exist.

yep. And 4 big contract dumps will happen at the end of this year (Sabathia $25mil/year, Teixeira $23mil/year, Beltran $15mil/year) and next year (Arod $20mil/year).

    Great move by the Yankees.

They give him away for a couple of months, get a surplus of players, and re-sign Chapman next season.

    Brian Cashman knows what's up.

They learned it from the Cubs.

It's all about timing. Cubs are chasing history. They can't leave cards on the table. And they're already set up for sustained success. This doesn't alter that at all.

Do you look forward to your favorite team winning an historic World Series, as the last pitch of the game is made by a guy that uses guns in a violent manner towards women, and then a few days later voting for your anti-gun movement?

Guy made a mistake and served his penalty. He didn't kill anybody and he's worked to make it right. I'm for second chances. Lots of athletes are not choirboys. Goes with the territory.

Chapman said he was sleepy during a phone interview with Theo and Tom Ricketts and this could not recall what they talked about or what their expectations were of him!

Who cares. He's paid to throw 100mph+ and get hitters out. Not to talk.
