Who is more loved in Boston? David "Big Papi" Ortiz or Tom Brady?

    Anyone know?

Red Sox are more popular than the PATS here in Beantown. Sounds counterintuitive at first glance. NESN (Beantown's cable station) shows replays of BoSox games often. Papers (Left wing Boston Globe) and "working class" Boston Herald give year round coverage to Bosox. Hot stove is ubiquitous. Radio "call-in" shows often have callers calling in during week 11 of the NFL; asking the host what he thinks about the latest escapee from Cuba, and his projected impact for next year.

Boston has always been a Red Sox city. Boston women enter orgasmic ecstasy upon seeing Ortiz, whilst the young men don Ortiz jerseys in February.

    Papi gets the nod.

Aside from a common sense minority, most Bostonians live on another Planet.

Big pill Poppy is some how becoming an icon this year. Only reason is because he is from Boston.

Papi is. Red Sox are the team of Boston and Papi played a huge part in 3 WS rings. When Brady and Bill retire and the Pats fall back to the pack the city won't care that much. When Red Sox are bad the people get pissed.

Although baseball (Red Sox, Pawtucket) dominate the papers and air waves year round, baseball has died as far as the kids playing in the local parks of Boston. Tons of money has been spent, and yet the well groomed little league parks are a barren site. Back in the day, ya had to wait for a diamond to free up. Sadly not the case today.

Have no idea what a lot of posters here are talking about. The Pats are far and away the most popular team in New England. People love the Sox but flip over all things Patriots. That said, the answer is Brady......but Ortiz is beloved also.

Rookies reporting to camp on Sunday. Sentences in Globe and Herald = nada, logatz, zilch. Its offseason which I think tells the story. Sox get year round coverage. Replays of games in the winter. In the football offseason Pats coverage disappears. I guess reasonable men might disagree.

This 200%. Ortiz is genuine and loved all over the world. Brady is a villain outside of Boston.

Here's your answer: It's basically a 1 and 1A situation. Both are legends and both are beloved.

There a slight difference in the way they are beloved though. Brady is more the God. The Great One. He is revered more so than "beloved". He is the ultimate warrior and the ultimate winner. Dominates his sport more. As I said, considered like a God we bow to. But there is a distance there. His personality is more private. I mean total pro, always nothing but class, and reportedly super nice to everyone, but still think most folks would feel afraid to even talk to him.

Papi, on the other hand, while only slightly less a legend, has the big personality, more of the warm, big brother type that people I think feel a little closer to. You'd yell Paaaapiii if you saw him before you'd yell Tommeeee. You know? He didn't clinically dominate his sport like Brady, but he is a legend for his unreal clutch performances in getting us three titles.

Both on the Mount Rushmore w Larry Bird and Bobby Orr.
