Complete disgrace. It tells you how much money the owners really make. I will never attend another nba game unless tickets are free.

Is it? I don't know about that. The cap went up and that's not their fault. Well someone is paying for it and a few people are paying for it. So do you just want all the money to go to the rich owners? At least the money will get put back in the economy.

IT IS NEVER THE PLAYERS FAULT HOW MUCH HE GETS PAID.

Sometimes it is the fault of their agents if they are underpaid.
NBA salary cap is a negotiated % of revenue. These new $ scream how much the owners have been
    pocketing forever. And still will.

I hope all those enriched by this game treat this windfall as a non renewable resource. I'm sure we are going to hear more"crash and burn" stories after all of these big contracts.

    good discussion..

    these contracts do seem insane...

BUT it's a max-salary and rookie scale league... if you play 8 players and you have one max star and 3 contributors on early stage deals then you have like $70MM/season to spend on 4 players or something like that. not sure what the minimum floor is but i think you'd need to spend $50MM/season on 4-5 players.

basic question: are guys on their second contracts really underpaid like rookie deals? or just moderate underpayment but can't play where they want?.........

and stating the obvious, but these huge deals are due to new cap.......most teams couldn't afford anything but their own players before this increased cap. next summer too.

as stated previously by other posters, all this does is highlight how much the players have not been getting in the past vs how much the owners have been getting.

what i should have mentioned in my previous post was other teams were willing to give conley a max deal. and if they could have gotten him for the same deal memphis was able to give him, they would have. a max is a max. that's just the max now! we've only just begun.

Why pay 9 Million a year on a bench player? You could sign a 1st round pick for wayyyyy less and probably get the same production. I'm cringing that the 76ers big free agent signing was Jerryd Bayless for 3/27m. At least they didn't give 70m to Evan Turner!

i think it will take time to adjust the amounts we expect players to get. everything's gone up seemingly overnight, yet we all knew this was coming. it just shocks you when you hear guys like jon leur getting 10 mil a year.

basically you can be shocked and complain, or you can get your son a private basketball instructor and embrace the future.
