Why will you want to remove all your starters with the scrubs in OT? You want your best players on the field. Do teams put the scrubs in OT in basketball?

a lot of times its decided that way in baseball, do you like having teams stand around for 30 minutes with guys who are dead tired

You can't play until someone scores.
If the game goes on for another 45 + minutes this would be a huge disadvantage for the winning team going into the next round.
There is absolutely no way this will happen.

In baseball what you say is only done in regular season.

In World Series the Giants put Bumgarner to pitch the last 3 innings of game 6 on 2 days rest because he is their best player. They had 10 other pitchers on bench to use who were rested but picked the best who wasn't rested.

of course you leave the stars in for as long as they can go, the like for like players you can put the fresh ones on.
teams with less talent would be afraid of extra time instead of encouraged of sitting back for penalties.

like laker said you have to take the option away of pks for teams, but we cant have players collapsing on the field either.

Taking away players during the additional time is the best idea. But do it progressively. For example for the 1st 10 min of extras go with 10 men each , then at 20 go to 9. Finally in last 10 go to 8. The last 10 would be like 7 on 7 football in texas or Rugby 7's. And give an extra sub for the extra time each that way in the last 10 a manager can put in some super speedy offensive player 8 on 8 vs guys that are dead fukking tired. You would see the subs dribble circles around them with all that open space.

PKs is a test of the players mental strength(composure and concentration) after an exhausting 120 mins of football. If fitness isn't a problem, then the next test should be the mental test, so nothing with PKs to settle ties.

They tried these shootouts for a few years in MLS and then they abandoned them because when the goalie was beaten he will foul the player for a regular PK without getting a red card.

Current format is perfect.

True it comes down to teams making mistakes in their defensive 1/3, players ability to finish, and the ultimate horrible ending referee mistakes or miss calls with the perfect example being Maradona's "Hand of God".

I'd like to see the pks taken from the 18. Make it come down to legitimate goalkeeping (as opposed to guessing usually) and shooting

Great goalies study their opponent in all aspects, as was shown today Buffon and Neuer were for the most part correct on their dives, their presence especially Neuer the way he moved around and showed his confidence prior to each PK and Buffon just needed his reputation to put doubt in German shooters . Bringing the PK back to the 18 would give goalies a big advantage, more reaction time granted, kickers would no longer try to disguise their shots it would be all power and placement, goalies would no longer have that edge or presence as some goalies have vs a kicker so any goalie could be known as a great PK goalie.

I still like my idea of Golden Goal in extra time where teams are forced to drop 2 of their players so essentially it would be 9 vs 9 (including goalies) and I guess less if you have a red card(s)

Teams wouldn't be able to bunker down with so much open space and it would be entertaining as hell.....games would probably end before 120 as teams would be forced to attack

Also who you choose to drop for OT would be a strategy....defenders or attackers?

This is a awesome idea and strategy would be a huge factor.
