Well, let's see some documentation from deadspin - I agree it is a rotten, rotten world but I highly doubt deadspin has accurate data - nobody does unless you track it yourself.

Meh, Deadspin has gotten old. 10,000 words for an article that only needed to be 600. You can tell they're trying extra hard to keep the lights on after that Hogan lawsuit

Oh, and let’s not forget the fees to actually buy Pregame touts’ losing picks: Given normal per-pick prices—a “three-star play” for $15, one- or two-star plays for $10—then the fees over this period would total an additional million-plus dollars. If you had bought and played all of Pregame’s picks since 2011, you’d be down $1,359,432.

That's true. I stopped reading after awhile because it's telling me what I already know. Still, it was good to see a well-known website expose a tout service like this. This article required some big time legwork.

If they're so bad at picking games why don't bettors fade these touts for a profit?

Good job NoCoin on finding the article.

Got into a discussion with a bartender, yesterday on lousy touts.

Most of these touts charge more money than I can bet on a game-and they expect me to fork over cash to them.
    Then, they can't even win!!!

Remember, if the touts are so good, they don't need to charge you so much cash for what they do
    -they wouldn't need the money

A very nice entry in the commentary section, most pro gamblers relate with the feeling.

I haven’t read the entire article yet, but I just want to go ahead and chime in with what I tell others about “professional gamblers”. I live in Los Angeles, but I go to Las Vegas often and over the years have been acquainted with them and they are some of the smartest, funniest, wittiest people you can encounter, but at their core they are f-ing miserable. And I can understand why—because the life is such a grind, toggling from stratospheric highs to abysmal lows. When I thought I could “beat” the system through analytics (I’m really beginning to hate that word) by composing elaborate spreadsheets that took all sorts of stats into consideration—stats that aren’t readily found, like pro basketball 1st half and 2nd half defensive field goal % combined with 1st half winning/losing margin (to see which teams tighten up or slack off defensively in the 2nd half based on the scenario)—I found that, even when winning, it was driving me batty, even when going through a streak, like one time, I went 26-4, it didn’t change my mindset. At the end of the day, I’d say that I still finished under the magic 52.4 percentage because I’d ultimately get reckless and undisciplined. But even if winning at a 55%, I think I’d still be ornery because again, the life is a grind and takes a toll on the psyche. Besides, there’s nothing more pathetic that sitting inside my car at a West Hollywood Whole Foods parking lot and punching my wheel repeatedly because I was listening to a Northwestern college basketball game on which I had the under and something like 20 points was scored in the last minute because the team was down 7 and kept scoring then fouling & sending the opponent to the FT line, then repeat until the game finished a point over the total.
So I just learned to accept I’m a recreational gambler who does single games, teasers, parlays, etc. I still lose, but I’m happier and enjoy the chase.
