Anthony Rizzo has 8 homeruns and 21 RBIs in 19 games

He just hit one about 430 feet

Holy moly. Does he win MVP this year? With this lineup, I can see him hitting 45 homeruns and 160 RBI

What are u blind? Harper is the MVP. Rizzo lol what are U smoking he's not even in Harper's league . Harper is going to command a 10 year 400 million contract and he will only be 33 when that's contracts up lol we might see 1000 home runs from him in his career think about that for a minute

I see that Rizzo finally got his average back over .200

Not sure if that is MVP worthy.

The hell are you talking about? All-Star and top 10 MVP voting each of the last 2 seasons. Highly doubt he wins MVP, but he's one of the elite hitters in the game. Gold glove caliber at 1B too.

I was going to remark how weird it is to have 21 RBI in 19 games while hitting .203. 8 of his 14 hits are HR's. Obviously that's going to change a lot. He's really not an all or nothing guy. Just fluky. He's going to end up .280ish with 35ish HR's.

Top 5 NL MVP, but highly doubtful he wins it. He is probably the MVP (aside form Arrieta) on the best team, but they'd still be rgeat without him. He gets lots of chances and protection due to the lineup.

You know that's just poor fortune. Rizzo's average on balls in play has been beyond atrocious. He's not even striking out much

He will be a .280 to .300 hitter by end of the year with 40 homeruns and 160 RBI

You think he's got a chance for 150-170 RBI?

He's the main power source behind 3 guys who are going to have an on base percentage of around .350 to .390 (Heyward, Bryant Fowler). He's going to have tons and tons and tons of chances with men on base

I think that's quite a stretch. He's going to top last year's 101 with more opportunities, but 150 is a sky-high total. I would peg more like 120-125. Upper 30's HR's and the usual .280 BA.

And then I think Bryant's numbers will be very very similar, with the exception that Bryant strikes out more.

Both ought to find their way into the top 5 in MVP voting. This will be the best middle order duo in baseball by a good margin.

There hasn't been 150+ RBI since Juice-Rod in 2007. Highest since 2010 is Fielder in 2012 with 139.

yea but when was the last time any team had 3 guys with such a high on base percentage in front of the primary power source?

and hell, it's not even just the #1, #2 and #3 players. Even Russell hitting at #8 has a solid .333 OBP and cubs pitchers are excellent hitters. Rizzo is going to have a ridiculous amount of at bats with men on base

You gotta be a dim bulb if you believe that. The Cubs have about a 97% chance to make the playoffs. Only multiple fluke injuries could prevent it. October? Now that's a crapshoot. Who knows.

Who do you guys see having the better year, Rizzo or Bryant? They were really close numbers wise last season. Rizzo must have a horrific BABIP right now cause he has more BB than K's but his average is still just above mendoza. Meanwhile Bryant has twice as many strikeouts as walks and has a BA 75 points higher than Rizzo's. I wonder if teams have figured out how to defense Rizzo effectively or if he's just been getting robbed by web gems and drilling liners right at bodies. I've only watched about 5 Cubs games this season but I know you guys in this thread have watched them all.

    .280ish is not elite.

Harper has 9/23 batting .323 in 18 games. FWIW.

Well then why was he 4th in MVP voting last season? A top 4 or 5 hitter in the league is elite. Combined with OBP and power, yes, .280 can be elite these days. It was good for 4th in NL OPS last season and 3rd the season prior. If you are in the top 4 in your league in OPS in consecutive seasons, you are elite. In fact, he's the only one in the NL to accomplish that. Since 2013, he leads the NL in HR. Anthony Rizzo is an elite hitter and he's really just getting started at 26 and likely has yet to peak.

As long as Harper stays healthy everyone else is second fiddle. His hitting numbers are better across the board and he's younger. Harper elite, Rizzo very good.

He has a grand total of 69 AB. One good week and he'll be hitting .280. Rizzo will not end up anywhere near the Mendoza line.

Oh, I agree. Never said Rizzo would win MVP - he won't. But he'll probably be top 4 or 5 in the MVP race, for the third straight season.

Not saying it will happen, but in terms of MVP ceiling potential, I'd put Bryant ahead of him this season. We don't quite know what Bryant is capable of in a second full season, but he certainly has the potential in him for putting up huge numbers.

No doubt Harper is the odds on favorite though.
