Arrieta will not keep this up. He will be suspended soon. His comeback will not go well.

Randy Johnson is the best modern pitcher

He won 5 Cy Youngs......more than any other pitcher except Roger Clemens who was on the roids

    including 4 in a row 1999,2000,2001,2002

Guess who won in '03.....Gagne another roider
Clemens in '04 on the roids

Martinez is the only one who has an argument for best modern pitcher other than Johnson

I think it was the year he came in as relief in a playoff game, and he through 4 or 5 changeups in a row to one batter. and got the guy out. It was truelly was a crazy pitching performance that made me just say WOW.

true story i knew the youngest person and the fourth youngest guy to play in mlb. Joe nuxhall was a reds broadcaster but he was youngest to ever play. His brothers grandson played ball growing up with me and we would get tickets on regular basis. my best friends father in law was ronnie moeller sr. he used to tell stories to us on a regular basis. one of his was that he faced the yankees and he was put in. in mantles spot they had substituted for him but he didn't realize it. After he struck the guy out then he thought that is was pretty easy. the next day he actually faced him and and mantle hit a ball farther than he ever seen a ball go. i miss that guy.

Roundin' third and headin' for home. Nuxhall was a great broadcaster. The best five I've seen in person:

    Bob Gibson
    Tom Seaver
    Steve Carlton
    Juan Marichial
    Randy Johnson

Gibson had 13 complete game shut-outs in 1968.
If you take the guys from pre-war out of the equation , he has to be on this list.

13 complete gm shutouts in a season is just ridiculous wow! Guys in this younger generation be lucky to complete 13 in a career and they won't all be shutouts.

Johnson is No. 1; his prime is incredible considering that it coincided almost exactly with the steroid monkey era.

No shit Randall. Thing about a guy like Gibson, whether you asks teammates or opponents, unequivically there is tons of respect tinged with a little fear. Likewise Pedro and Randy.

Yeah that 68 year was almost a decade before I was hatched. Definitely a historian like I mentioned and have read about him seen footage what a monster. Koufax had a run of about 5 years as well just off the charts dominant. I mentioned Johnson being on my list not only dominant but instilled most fear for opposing batters arguably than anyone I've seen in my life.

    Randy Johnson
    Pedro
    Tom Henke
    David Cone
    Dennis Martinez

Hideo Nomo was pretty awesome for awhile, remember when he first showed up on the scene, like a tidle wave.

A few names I haven't thought of for a while, but were great:

    * Cone had a great career, w/ many permutations. Had one phenomenal season for Mets early in his career. When Pedro was flying, Cone was arguably 2nd-best P in American League. Dominant stuff, filthy in his prime.

    * I loved Tom Henke as a Blue Jay closer. Duane Ward w/ Henke was an overpowering late-inning relief combo.

Kershaw will go down as better than all these guys if he can sustain this and win a ring or two.

    Pedro
    Randy Johnson
    Clemens
    Koufax
    Ryan

Doc Gooden could have been. Schilling was good for a long time in the steroid era. Arreita may have the most dominant 2 season stretch ever if he repeats what he did last year.

Dwight Gooden started his career looking like he would go down as one of the best, then after his amazing sophomore year everything started going downhill.

Arrieta lolll. He's been a career bum. He's had one good season plus the stsrt of this year He will need to do this for another 10 years to even be considered.

    Steve carlton
    Randy. Johnson

I'm not a 20 yr old kid, but come on man Pedro Martinez needs to be on that list never named on any suspected PED list and he was pitching in a much more lively hitting era than anyone on that list outside of Randy Johnson you also need to show Greg Maddux some love too. You can't just name all the guys from 50 years ago and totally ignore the past 20 years outside of Randy Johnson of course. You're doing the same thing you're bitching about here lakerboy you're better than this come on.

    My own top 5
    Walter Johnson
    Bob Gibson
    Pedro Martinez
    CY Young
    Greg Maddux

And I'm willing to bet in 10-15 years I would add Clayton Kershaw to that list not sure who I would take off though.
