No. They are the words of truth. The father of one of my good friends growing up worked at McDonalds and owned a house. Granted it wasn't a huge home, but they owned it and not from an inheritance - from working at McDonalds. No possibility of that happening today. Home prices have skyrocketed while wages are stuck in 1985.

I graduated high school in the 90's. So, it's not like it was that long ago.

Exactly this. It's simple nostalgia. As time goes by people forget the negatives and only remember the positives. It can be seen from things as simple as regular people who hated school wanting to go back, to the upward trend former president's see in their approval ratings as time passes.

Every generation is going to think negatively of a newer one because they only remember what was so great about their's and forget the negatives.

For every older person I see complain about 20-somethings I have equal view toward the 50-70+ year olds I've worked with that were slow, took terrible direction, and could easily be replaced by a younger person who didn't have to take 5 minutes to do a simple task on a computer.

Back in college when I worked on a couple of call centers I would hate to find out the customer I was speaking with had talked to one of my older co-workers before me because I knew it was going to take 4 times as long to fix the issue after the old people made it even worse.

It goes both ways.

That's why I made sure to get 4 years of call center experience right out of high school. So I'll always have that as a fall back. I'd probably be on suicide watch working at one of those places again but, hey, at least I'd be able to afford the gun I'd need.

You can't deny with social media, the coddling of the children (can't even look at them sideways or CPS will take them away from you), the internet and overall high number of candyasses and their parenting books and mom blogs raising children, this generation is clearly unique. It's obvious the number of parents that shouldn't be having children but are far outweight those that should be having children but aren't. It's not about nostalgia, it's a simple fact. I remember the dumbasses when I was in the work force in my late teens, I get they all didn't have the great work ethic and drive that I had. But good god the world is awesome right now, movies, music, anything I want a click away, games... great tv, there is so much competing for my attention and my time, I don't blame the kids nowadays for being lazy douchebags. I had Sim City on my Commodore 64 and Family Fukin' Ties and Growing Pains. I don't think you can throw a blanket cliche over the whole thing and just say, 'Every generation thinks the previous generation is lazy'.

As far as families growing wealth to pass onto the next generation, I guess I don't believe in that model anymore. I tell my parents enjoy their retirement and don't leave me shit. Spend it all. They raised 4 great children and we're all doing well and we want them to enjoy themselves and not worry about leaving us anything. I'm not having kids, I'm too selfish and like life way too much to waste time and money on anyone but me and my wife. The problem is the fuks that are just like me (there are a LOT of them) that have kids anyway.

Monkey's right. It is the Feds policy to devalue the dollar each year and we have seen this result over more than 30 years. It's been the trend but all of this recent QE as changed the game a bit and forced ever increasing debt limits for the US government.

Maybe Trump can cut some waste, fraud, and spending, but the cycle will never be broken. This country has had multiple central banks. They have all caused extreme inflation and all previous central banks have gone bankrupt.

The Federal Reserve is no different and heading down the same path.

I don't think you understand the purpose of the debt. If the US were to "pay off" the national debt, there would be no money.

Every dollar that is created comes from the act of loaning the dollar. Under the current system, with no gold or anything backing the currency, there would be no money without debt. The money is created for the sole purpose of lending, otherwise it wouldn't materialize.

It's the interest that straps congress, just like it does every nation that gets lent money. Many of those dicator led nations have spent their borrowed wealth, ran the nation into shit, then couldn't make payments on the loans. The plan is simply to reschedule those payments and keep the nations enslaved to the interest.

If a nation chooses not to accept these "western" loans, then the leaders are usually ousted. This is a pattern around the world, from South America to the Middle East. It's part of the reason why there were so many "rebellions" around the Middle East recently.
