    Cmon now.
This was gonna be his last season.

No big deal. Let his successor get some experience this year.

I usually agree with you, but I can't here.

Brilliant basketball mind, and top notch strategist. Took a school who should never have done anything in hoops, found the right kids for his system, and dominated. Won 3 Big Ten titles, and went to two Final Fours. I doubt he or any Badger fans care if anyone else was entertained by his style. Butler was crazy boring too, but it just went to show when you have a coach that's smarter and better than everyone else, you can do great things.

    HOFer.

You're an idiot. Guy won 4 titles in division 3. Three times in the history of D-III basketball has a team gone unbeaten, and Ryan coached two of them. Never finished worse than 4th in the big ten in his 14 years. Coach K, Adolph Rupp, Dean Smith, Roy Williams and Jerry Tarkanian.......those are the only guys who have a better winning % than Bo Ryan. Pull your head out of your ass.

Bo Ryan will go down as one of the greatest coaches in history. The way he turned that entire program around and made Badgers basketball relevant nearly on his own. They weren't even on the map until he came around. The way he did it, im not a huge fan of that, but for those who say he is a scumbag, and a loser is just absurd and ludicrous. Guy is a legend

Truly sad Wisky's boyz got royally focked by the ShitChef last year!

Puke Red Devils roach coach ShitChefSki & his band of crooked refs absolutely robbed old man Bo & his boyz in the second half of last year's championship game!

No I do not actually. Bo wants Gard to take over the program. This summer when ee found out Bo's retiring Alvarez said he was going to do s nationwide search for a coach. I trust Bo and from the tweets ive read all former players are high on Gard. Maybe this is Bo doing Gard a favor, allowing him to coach his way into the head coaching door.

Its not not about the team being crappy and Bo quiting on them. That's not who he is. I just hope it's not health related. But I truly believe it's him doing what's best for Gard and the future. I wish Bo could coach forever. But he's old. It's time.

I firmly believe Bo wanted to leave at the end of last season, BUT he knew what he was losing with his seniors and Dekker leaving early. He did not want to put Gard in a situation where Gard could be the fall guy for a down year.

some of these fools should read

"This was a decision months in the making," Ryan said. "I brought this up to Barry back in April. He advised me to take some time to think it over, and I appreciated that. But in recent weeks, I have come to the conclusion that now is the right time for me to retire and for Greg Gard to have the opportunity to coach the team for the remainder of the season. I discussed this with Barry, and I appreciate him giving me the space to make this decision."

Ryan said that part of the reason he came back for this season was to give Gard time to be with his father, Glen, who was diagnosed with cancer in the spring and died this fall. Ryan said the demands on Gard's time to fly around the country meeting with doctors and helping his dad put his retirement on the back burner. Following Glen Gard's death, Ryan then spoke with Alvarez and decided the semester break would be a good time to step down.

I don't know anything, just seems really fishy. I get the whole, I want my guy to have the job, but this isn't the type of guy who just quits suddenly. Not saying he did something terrible but there has to be more to this story.
