Insane money, but Sox HAD to do it to become competitive again. In case you missed it, they had ZERO front-line starters last year. He's a workhorse and will take the pressure off their young arms. Also, sure is due to win a playoff game!

horrible deal he's going to give up a lot of homers in that park and obviously he struggles in the post season. Glad the Dodgers didn't sign him and hi straight as an arrow fastball

Do you guys think Max Scherzer contract was a good signing? Both played 8yrs as pro, almost identical stats, except Price excelled immmediately, while Scherzer took a couple years to figure it out. Both guys are same age. Contract for Price was more than fair when you look at Scherzer contract. There is something to be said for having a starter who when he takes the mound, you know it's win day. You guys are seriously underestimating the starters value. How many more tickets will be sold not only on nights Price pitches at fenway, but also away, TV money, etc. Redsox haven't had this all star caliber of a pitcher since Pedro and Schilling. They know how much pitching means. Outside of his first start this past postseason, Price pitched really well. If he hadn't come in to pitch several innings relief then Jays might not have made it past the Rangers. He was left in too long against KC twice but had 1 or 2 run games going into the 7th innning. Guy got exactly the amount he was worth. Plain and simple. Redsox needed a legit #1 to even sniff the postseason. Offensively, they are still likely 2 or 3 players away.

Red Sox are lining up the next wave of big contracts that they will eventually trade when a season tanks.

Everyone forgets that these deals aren't as big as they seem. In reality it's basically a three-year deal and then you don't exercise the option. They won't be paying him 32 mil or whatever for 2019 when he's 34 and starting to decline. But right now they desperately need him.

    Not correct.
The $217 million is guaranteed, unless David Price (not the team) decides to opt-out after 2018. The team has no opt-out option in the 7 year deal.

That's not what I heard from some talking heads on our local sports show here. But I'll look into it more. Honestly, nothing is more confusing than sports contracts. Except maybe collective bargaining agreement or salary cap BS.

Wow... I don't understand what these GM's and Owners are thinking??? WTF is going on??

Guy hasn't proven anything in the postseason.

You mean to tell me... it's all about the regular season now??

    I'm confused.

Red Sox tried to sign a guy that was a playoff giant, but he sucked it up this year (Pablo Sandoval)

They won't boo him cuz they are racist, they will boo him out of town if he sucks and shows poor character. It's a crazy contract but this is what these guys are worth. Greinke will make more than Price I think when he gets signed again.

the only people confused are the ones that do not see the cash coming into "the business". the money from NESN (in this case) and the $10 beer has gotten so out of control this is a joke. i played professional baseball and have friends in the majors and i don't even care about the game anymore.
