Could Memphis, Toledo, Temple, or Houston make the playoffs?

What if Memphis wins out and Ole Miss wins the SEC?

No. They have to be content with a New Year's Six Bowl and no more. Given your scenario, Old Miss would need good SEC wins to win SEC (duh...lol), so that would trump loss to Memphis.

System is stupid. You go undefeated and have zero chance of winning a national championship. It's like you are disqualified before playing your first game.

Yes, Memphis has a chance to sneak into the playoff. They will need some help and have to play flawless, but it's a possibility. Houston more of a long shot and Temple even longer (much longer) and Toledo has no shot outside of mixing it up with a couple 3 loss teams, which clearly isn't happening with the teams mentioned before.

Thing is, Memphis is the best of those teams and they were ranked 18th heading into this week. Seems they would need a shitload of help, and the committee would probably give the nod to a major conference school if its even close with Memphis.

Yeah, it's probably less than say "20%" chance even at undefeated. Ole Miss can help them a lot with a strong finish. Memphis has the best schedule of the teams and I could easily see them getting the nod over many 2 loss teams.

Catch-22. Ole Miss can help themselves more if that run results in SEC Championship.

Uh NO it's still a business and legit good or not none of these teams good for business. Days end the system will "find" a way to screw them if need be.

At the end of the year they might be ranked 8th. Which it total bs if they win the rest of their games.

They play 1 or 2 good teams. If they played in real conferences, they wouldn't be anywhere close to undefeated. That's why

Ole miss won't win the sec they probably lose straight up to A&M tonight truth be told they aren't that good they caught bama at the right time if they played today bama would blow their doors off like florida and Memphis did.... Houston is good ,Memphis is good, toledo is good ....temple is dog shit they shouldn't even be in the conversation. Whomever wins that houston v Memphis game is in spread on that game will probably be 3 or something tight like that total 84 they'll probably hit 100

They are too small, so it won't be allowed to happen. Marshall damn near ran the table last year, and if they did they wouldn't have even made the top 10.

Memphis beat a team that beat bama and it really wasn't ever a close game from the 2nd qtr on if they run the table dropping 50 + on teams Houston is pretty good like Memphis their defense is pretty horrible but their Qb ward is legit that's going to be a hell of a game I think they'll get crushed by whomever they run into in a playoff but with that win over ole miss like that and beating UH if they can they will have earned it I think.

^^^ you can blame ole miss for showing up like they didn't even watch game film or have a clue how to defend Memphis lol at playing soft coverage and zone vs a Paxton lynch a dude that can make all the throws and is accurate as anybody in cfb.

Same thing could be said for Baylor. They'll play 2, MAYBE 3 teams with a pulse. Yet they'll make the playoff. Take memphis this year, and put any "power conference's" logo on their chest, and they'd be top 8 right now. Even with the same schedule they've played. Memphis could potentially have 3 top 25 wins this year. 4 if they play temple again in their CCG. Politics suck. Memphis could hang with anybody

There's been talk of Memphis being a part of SEC expansion for decades. Doubt it'll happen though

If I recall, it has come up around 3 times over the last 50 years. Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Tennessee prevented it each time. Memphis has traditionally been a recruiting hotbed for the SEC

The only way it happens is if there is a log jam of 2 loss teams for the 4th spot. That would be the only way it would be considered. Memphis has the best shot if Ole Miss doesn't fall apart
