the new NON PRO rule here is a slap in the face to the SBR PROS who help build, support give back and promote strongly more PRO entries. all those useful and generous free play points given to the endless SBR non pros that will enter and ghost in are useless.

    She'll be right.
50% more points and 500% more entrants, all of which won't be pro and will waste those FP points away. Cash prizes to people with a phone number and a free account? Not many pro's ok with that as well.

I can confidently say that if I wasn't a pro and was allowed to cash in this contest (I won't anyhow) I sure wouldn't think "hey I won some money, let me give some of it back" They're going to take the money and run, if they don't want to fork over the $100 to be a pro, there is a reason for it.

Sorry all but I'm new to this contest but am wondering what % did the top 30 pay last year? Like how good do you have to pick in order to get a prize? And what is "non pro" vs "pro" mean? I'm assuming it has something to do with spending to be a "pro" member of SBR? Anyway I'm in and looking forward to this! O

OH yeah, when is deadline to submit picks?

Fkn stupid rules change. Whats the fkn point of pro if this is how it is, not to mention getting cok slapped around with the joke of a poker software.

Guess they need the most phone numbers possible to sell off and subsidize this thing. Everyone should probably expect some calls from Costa Rican touts and Nigerian scam artists real soon

Here are the results from last year http://www.sportsbookreview.com/foru...9-wins-5k.html

Click the "Become a Pro" link under your avatar for details of the pro membership.

The Prick will make his 5 picks by Tuesday each week and you can then make yours any time after that through to last match kickoff.

Answer by SBR: The contest is scored by net units, so if you get better numbers over the course of a reason and do better with your 2-unit best bets, you can rank higher than a contestant who did horribly on their best bets but did better on single plays.

Also, how come some people with better win %'s ended up lower? Can someone explain the way they rank people?

It's a pretty even distribution.. usually picks sides more than totals but it's a pretty even split between NFL/NCAA

Non-pros can play and can win cash prizes. Will be curious to see how many total players enter this year. Wouldn't the weekly prizes be watered down now when it's free for all?

Nonpros could play until week 8 or 9 before. I doubt many of them even realized that they weren't eligible for cash prizes when they signed up. Also I'm sure they assumed if they did well they'd go pro to cash in.

I really don't expect too many more people to join that year's past.

What I don't like about non-pros is the fact that there will probably be a lot of multiple entries. There are a ton of apps that give you a legitimate phone number to get around the verification.

Phone verification helps keep the contest registration simple and the playing field as legitimate as possible. For SBR Store purposes, it is required as a call-back reference for delivery issues and is required by most merchants. Your phone number is never shared with third parties and serves no other purpose.

Correct. If the Prick selects NY Giants -2, the other side is unavailable. If The Prick selects the over 44 on a game, the under is unavailable. This eliminates the strategy of playing the same picks or the opposite as The Prick, and is why he opens each round with his picks before anyone else can put in their weekly plays.

Welcome to SBR and let us know of any more questions, best of luck sir.

    Hi shaun,

There is an answer on page one:

Opening it up to the public helps grow the community and helps to pay for the contest.
Keep in mind that this is the most marketable contest of the year and remember that you were once a newbie to the forum too. The more successful this contest is the more exclusive Pro benefits there will be like the chance to win the $10,000 WSOP Main Event buy-in that was given away this July, and the larger the contest budget will be year-round.

The entire reason I went pro years ago was to get some of the winnings for BTP. The reason I renewed a couple years ago was for the same reason. Without the need to be pro to win cash, I don't really see any non-pros going pro.

I had Pro status for 3 years, but since this is a gambling forum & being a Pro has nothing to do with gambling what the F*#& is the point of having Pro status unless you aren't from the US? I don't feel like donating money to a charity that has over 30% of it's revenue going to admin costs. Nice work on this contest SBR

SBR's contest... they have the right to run it anyway they see fit and in any fashion they deem to be in their best interest. (obviously)

Everyone on the customer side of things has the right to interpret what that means for them, individually, and whether or not remaining/turning PRO still holds value for them. (obviously)

Personally, I think it's still a great contest (and TY to SBR)... but, as others have stated/alluded to, the opportunity for FRAUD (via multiple accounts) seems like easy pickings for those so inclined to scam the contest.

But, as Bruce Hornsby once astutely told us: "That's just the way it is..."

GL to everyone 'cept the Hillbilly and the multi-account scammers......

I understand it's a PR move. Build up the site. I get it. This being one of SBR's most prestigious contests. The granddaddy of them all... this leaves this contest vulnerable to a sh#$load of things that could go wrong.

There's going to be a lot of PRO MEMBERS that will bust their ass week end and week out all for a NON PRO to knock them out? And how credible is this NON PRO going to be? 20 handles? 200 handles? Who really knows right?

If 50 + Non Pros CASH mysteriously this year. SBR is going to have a lot of explaining to do. Also, you're going to lose members in 2016. You don't foresee this happening? Writing is already on the wall.

Juice isn't worth the squeeze SBR. Go back to the original format.

What stops someone from buying dozens of disposable cell phones to enter the contest as many times as possible? Then after using them to enter contest he sells them on Craigslist.

Nice contest. Interesting strategy with the pro/non-pro. First pros got free extra year and now it isn't necessary for btp. I'm guessing the pro status doesn't mean as much to sbr as it does to its members. Not a knock at all. You guys know the finances of everything.

Wonder what numbers will be like with phone verification. Odds the numbers are sold??

No need to do that, as it's easy peasy to get a supply of different numbers that will be used for 'verification'.

This is low hanging fruit for the scammers; I'm certain there's a number of scamming peeps that actually got a pretty good chuckle over this when they realized how easy it's going to be.
But, SBR is deeming the sheer numbers of 'unique' () players will make them $ in the marketing/advertisement-charging department.

Make no mistake, tho... in this contest, it's gonna be a whole lotta multi-accounting BDF ghosts all up in here.

Non-pros should have to pony up for their memberships by, say, week five to be eligible for cash prizes. If they fail to do so, and still land in the money, their prizes should be given a pro membership (assuming it's over $100). The money that they would have won should then be either forwarded to a charity, say Angelman Syndrome, for example, or just transferred ahead to the next event.

im thinking SBR is going to to this. these rules stand for now. get lots of numbers, some BUZZ, some new people, for sure lots of fake accounts. but about 8 weeks in they will change the rules for non pros and cut them all out if not a pro by then. they get the numbers, and keep the loyal PROS supper happy in the end. sell the numbers is a nice way to get marketing funds for more SBR PRO contest in the future. so a win win win.

Its a business and not a bad way to play it SBR.

Non pros should have to also send a copy of government ID by week 8.

At least make the scammers have to work for it.

As it right now, it's just too easy.
