That 62% number also is highly reflective of the fact that we are becoming an older and older society. And baby boomers are now late 60's and 70's and are retiring in droves. People are living longer (presumably a good thing) and therefore are out of the workforce longer and also live longer while disabled.
Again, there are jobs. A lot of them. Adults that are capable and willing to work can find jobs.
Young people don't want to work, level of self entitlement is crazy. Most people I know got a worthless degree, in debt and refuse to take a job that they think they're above. Most of them are fukin bums still living at home

we outsourced our manufacturing base and changed our economy from a high-wage manufacturing economy to a low-wage service economy. these "jobs" pay starvation wages.
i'll give you an example of how ****** up it is to a be a worker in the united states: i take a job on a drilling rig in wyoming. it's brutally dangerous work. the pay is reasonable at about 27/hr to start. sounds ok right? wrong! you work 7 12hr days then have 7 off. the one first week works out to 84 hours. you'd figure you were entitled to 44 hours overtime, right? wrong! they bribed the penetrating politicians to say that the second 40 hrs goes towards the second week when you are at home. penetrating wage-theft!
think about that: they keep the rig running 24/7/365. the workers work 7 straight 12 hour shifts and only get 4 hours overtime; thus penetrating me out of well over a thousand a month. now do the math: 4 shifts, 5 or 6 guys a shift, $1200/month, 14.4k/worker/year, equals an extra 345k/year - per rig - that goes into some rich pricks pocket.
penetrating canada now has the world's richest middle-class; a distinction we used to own - until we gave everything to these rich dicks.

technology and so-called-free-trade will continue to displace workers (they've already had driverless semi trucks on the roads in nevada). shortly, truckers or cabbies won't exist. how many other jobs will be lost. if your a delivery driver - you're ****** too. this makes the need for a 'basic income' (provide every citizen with enough money to live above the poverty line) more important than ever.

For an internship I had during college, I would get e-mails from customers who were in trouble with their mortgage payments.....it was laughable how 99% of the time it was never their fault.....Most of the letters written had the grammar and structure of something written by a 3rd grader
