    Dean Smith, who coached North Carolina to two men's basketball national titles, died Saturday night at the age of 83.
    North Carolina announced Smith's death Sunday morning.
    "Coach Dean Smith passed away peacefully the evening of February 7 at his home in Chapel Hill, and surrounded by his wife and five children," Smith's family said in a statement. "We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as arrangements are made available to the public. Thank you."

    He was a good defensive coach had some innovative ideas in his day

    I think he did not adjust as the years went on and held too many players back and therefore failed or underachieved many years despite the great talent he had

    Not much since 94 percent of his players graduated.
    Now, from what I understand the football program was graduating kids with no show classes, Smith was never investigated for anything.

    Hate the Carolina program, but respect Dean Smith. Sounds like it was a good thing for him to go, I read some articles in the past few years. Think he had dementia. Probably outside of cancer, one of the worst things that can happen to someone.
