They are trying to make him something he is not. Pistol and read option he is deadly. The read was never "figured out" with sf, but the franchise made the decision the long term health was more important and to make him a drop back.

It takes time. So essentially the team is sacrificing wins and playoffs for him. I say let em loose

Can you imagine how different things would be in Washington if they had just relaxed and not gave up their future to get to #2 that year?

Probably not that much different at all. They woulda just drafted a different shitty QB.

The next qb on their board was Tannehill so they probably would of ran him into the ground too. The franchise as a whole is a problem, they lack patience and refuse to develop anyone. It's either win now or get fired. Shanny was "guaranteed" 5 years to build a team and we see how well they stuck to that promise. Even with Cousins they have lacked patience. Two young qbs they refuse to give time to grow and the next will be no different.

People just don't understand football. The transition from pistol/read option to dropback takes time and incredibly difficult. .people called Steve Young a bum for years before he finally figured it out

There is one major difference in these situations today...Young was forced from the get go into an "adapt or die" situation. These penetrates today had offenses changed to fit their style, which created this false sense of success until the league finally caught up to them. One good year has made these guys think they aren't the ones that have to change in order to succeed, so instead of working on becoming better they are busy using their one hit wonder years to make all the commercials they can.

in this thread everyone mentions Kaepernick and RG3 as playing poorly, but why stop there.
look at this lineup of current starting NFL QBs and assess their qualifications for the position.
some are veterans who are currently sucking, some are replacements for injured #1 starters,
and others are teams just searching for anyone to fill the position.

    COLIN KAEPERNICK
    RG3
    CAM NEWTON
    GENO SMITH
    TEDDY BRIDGEWATER
    DEREK CARR
    CHARLIE WHITEHURST
    BLAKE BORTLES
    JOSH MCCOWN
    RYAN FITZPATRICK
    KYLE ORTON
    JAY CUTLER
    ELI MANNING
    BRIAN HOYER
    DREW STANTON
    SHAUN HILL
    MARK SANCHEZ
    MATT RYAN

is it any wonder why the NFL product can be so unwatchable?

thats over half of the 32 NFL teams with QBs that are NOT producing at a level one might expect
from an NFL starter. if your a fan of any of these teams i cant see you liking your chances given your QB.

current population estimates puts the worlds male population ages 25-39 at 9,000,000 and among
the 32 best available men to play NFL QB are these guys?

moving thru the rest of the league, we have guys who are more capable of winning games

    RYAN TANNEHILL
    ANDY DALTON
    ALEX SMITH
    TONY ROMO
    DREW BREES
    PHILLIP RIVERS
    MATTHEW STAFFORD
    JOE FLACCO

and finally a handful of more elite team leaders

    RUSSELL WILSON
    BEN ROETHLISBERGER
    ANDREW LUCK
    AARON RODGERS
    TOM BRADY
    PEYTON MANNING

i find it mindboggling that out of all the available men in this world we have maybe a dozen that can really play the position.

back in the 70s and 80s it seems every team had a capable starting QB.
