You have to consider this the best catch of all time.

    YES
I question number 3. The defender fell down out if bounds because he was pushed.

    Top five, greatest ever? No

    This was.

    Why?

One catch was during a week 12 regular season game
The other was during a World Championship game.

Tyree's catch was more important, but it's not even in the same stratosphere as Beckam's as far as difficulty goes.

i disagree the giant. Tyree had to literally catch the ball with his helmet

Exactly. What game it was is irrelevant. The body control, concentration, strength to pull that down ....Jesus Christ

But those three are freak fingers. Like Kevin McHale's wing span.

Hey, Beck's catch was one in a lifetime catch, nobody is diminishing that, Tyree's was equally amazing and more important.

Smokey and Nasher, we are going to have to disagree on this one, boys.

To me those catches aren't even close.

I might be a little biased though, I had New England in Super Bowl XLII.

Tyree hanging onto the ball wasn't even the best part of that play...manning escaping the sack and getting the ball away was better

Saying "world championship" is arbitrary hype and nothing to do with the play

While getting rag-dolled with a horse collar and MMA arm lock by the best Safety of that era? Tyree wins hands down.

Ask a Giants fan which one they'll take. A circus catch in a home loss to Dallas, or a critical catch to earn a ring.

Yes but then you are creating a criteria to the catch " circus catch/ home loss" "critical/ earn ring"
who wouldn't take the ring but if the Giants had lost would the catch be the greatest? Doubtful

By your own description beckhams is the greater catch..

It's like saying a guy hit a 385-foot-game-seven-World-Series-homerun is better than a guy that hit a 600 foot bomb in spring training.

It wasn't better. It was just more important.

    But we are talking 'greatest'
The word 'greatest' has different meaning to different people.

I think "The Killers" are the greatest rock band going, but my definition of greatest rock band may be different than others.

The Giants won. I don't understand what you are saying. Maybe you are too young to remember that game.

The key catch with 1 min left in the SB, with a guy draped all over is much more impressive.

But, since game situation doen't matter to you, you'll love this:

I had nyg ml on that game and tyree had to trap the ball against his helmet

the post I was referring to was "ask Giants fans what catch is better.". The point of my response was that giants fans would obviously pick the SB now but had the Giants lost that game their vote would change

greatness Needs no hype but the tyree catch seems to need the SB win attached to it from all the Giants fans here ...beckhams needs nothing easily best catch I have ever seen

Totally irrelevant. We are comparing the greatness of the catches themselves. Tyree's was mostly luck, Beckham was all skill.

Lot of football skill in Tyree's catch.

(and luck is the residue of design by the way)

That is exactly my point though, Beckham's catch was 100% skill and for that reason alone blows away Tyree.

Just to clarify, Tyree had at least SOME luck (I would argue LOTS of luck, but I digress), whereas there was nothing lucky about Beckham.

Beckham was lucky the throw wasn't a little harder or the defender wasn't draped all over him.

You are bringing in extra factors that have nothing to do with the catches themselves. Beckham did exactly what he intended to do, something that most mere mortals cannot do. Did Tyree say to himself "Hmm, I think I'll trap the ball against my helmet on this play" when he went for the catch?

Here's the thing , I believe Beckam can do that again ....... hands down, thats the best catch ever in the NFL , and he's gonna be a incredible receiver for a long time and make lots of highlight reels if he can stay healthy , to bad he's with those sorry ass Giants though ....that was the best catch EVER ,I almost broke my neck when I seen that shit , even my girl (Who hates Football) said OMG did you see that baby lol I was like you know that was insane babe lol anyway , someone show me one thats better ,none of these that you guys posted can even hold a candle next to that catch, I've seen some college guys make some grabs similar to this but not the same .............. Beckam had to go into the Matrix to make that catch lol
