NFL Player News for Week 10 - Weekend Edition

    Thank You FootballGuys

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins unsure about status
    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak
Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (groin) said he is not sure if he will be able to play in Week 10 and will allow the coaches to decide. 'That's the coach's decision about whether I should play. It's a long season so I'm really clueless right now. I don't know,' Watkins said. 'They didn't update me or really tell me what's going on.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This isn't exactly the encouraging news Watkins owners were looking for today. Watkins sounds like he is at risk of being limited or less effective even if he does play.

NO - RB Pierre Thomas ruled out
    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com
New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (rib, shoulder) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is been ruled out for Week 10.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
With Thomas and Robinson out again this week, Mark Ingram is an excellent RB2 play against San Francisco.

CHI - TE Martellus Bennett's status in question
    Source: ChicagoBears.com
Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is listed as questionable for Week 10.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bennett went from limited on Thursday to no participation, but he has said he is "probably" playing against the Packers. The game on Sunday night, so check back in Sunday morning to see if there's any updates. Zach Ertz, Brent Celek, Richard Rodgers, and Andrew Quarless are the best emergency backups to roster who can cover for Bennett because they are playing Sunday or Monday night.

DAL - QB Tony Romo practices Friday
Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Clarence E. Hill Jr.
Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) practiced Friday, Nov. 7, and should be ready to play in Week 10 Sunday, Nov. 9.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Romo has a good matchup in London against the Jaguars, but the Cowboys will likely be cautious with their banged-up quarterback and give Jacksonville a big dose of Demarco Murray. He's a high floor/low ceiling option this week.

NYJ - RB Chris Johnson hopes role increases
    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Jane McManus
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson hopes to see his role continue to increase after more than 100 combined yards in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said the team likes to pair Johnson and RB Chris Ivory in a rotation depending on the game situations. 'I think it’s important for any running back to be able to get carries early and get consistent carries,' Johnson said. 'I don’t think there’s any running back out there that can get a couple carries and really be successful without being able to get in a rhythm.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Johnson is still only a low-end what the heck flex, even with a little more work in the poor Jets offense. He is more of an obstacle to Chris Ivory's fantasy value than a creator of fantasy value himself.

SF - WR Brandon Lloyd questionable
    Source: 49ers.com
San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Lloyd (hamstring) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is questionable for Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Lloyd had been making some big plays earlier this year, but he hasn't been as big a part of the 49ers pass offense in recent weeks. This injury won't help, but it could make Michael Crabtree, Stevie Johnson, and Anquan Boldin better plays if he is inactive.

DET - TE Eric Ebron doubtful in Week 10
    Source: NFL
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is doubtful for Week 10 against the Miami Dolphins.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Ebron is behind Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria in the effort to get back on the field. The rookie is unlikely to make a big impact any time soon.

    DET - Friday injury report
    Source: NFL
Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley (knee) has been ruled out for Week 10 against the Miami Dolphins. TEs Joseph Fauria (ankle) and Brandon Pettigrew (foot) are questionable, while DE Ziggy Ansah (toe), DE George Johnson (hamstring) and OT LaAdrian Waddle (concussion) are probable.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Lions tight ends are getting closer to being healthy, but they are unlikely to play big roles against the Dolphins.

MIA - RB Lamar Miller questionable
    Source: NFL
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (shoulder) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is listed as questionable for Week 10.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Miller is set to play, but his outlook is not strong against the very tough Lions defense. Check back on Sunday morning to be sure that he's active if you plan on using Miller.

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin will play in Week 10
    Source: Seahawks.com
Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (groin) practiced in full Friday, Nov. 7, and is probable in Week 10 against the New York Giants.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
After having a scare with his groin earlier this week, Baldwin looks like a solid WR3/Flex in PPR leagues against a Giants secondary that just lost their best corner for the season.

DEN - WR Wes Welker probable for Week 10
    Source: DenverBroncos.com
Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (back) practiced in full for the third straight day Friday, Nov. 7, and is probable for Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Welker is going to play, but his outlook is still very dim as no better than the fourth target and a part-time player in an offense with three excellent passcatchers.

DEN - RB Montee Ball questionable against Raiders
    Source: DenverBroncos.com
Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) was limited in practice for the third straight day Friday, Nov. 7, and is questionable for Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
If Ball comes back this week, he will still be the backup by his own admission. He's droppable in short bench leagues.

NO - RB Mark Ingram questionable
    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com
New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (shoulder) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is listed as questionable for Week 10.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Ingram is listed as questionable, but fully expected to play and get a big workload against San Francisco. Check back on Sunday make sure he starts, but Ingram is a great play as long as he goes.

ARI - QB Carson Palmer receives $50 million
Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer agreed to a three-year extension worth $50 million Friday, Nov. 7. He was set to be a free agent after this season.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Palmer has come a long way since he was sitting out to force the Bengals hand into trading him to the Raiders. The Cardinals have the best record in the league even though Palmer has missed a good part of the first half of the season. Palmer is a great fit for the Bruce Arians offense and locking him down makes sense while the team develops fourth-round pick Logan Thomas in the meantime.

TB - WR Vincent Jackson questionable
    Source: Buccaneers.com
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is questionable for the team's Week 10 game.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It doesn't sound like there is a any risk that Jackson misses the good matchup against Atlanta, but check back on Sunday morning to be sure.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert may miss rest of year
    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra
Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (elbow) could miss the rest of the season, according to head coach Marvin Lewis. 'I can't give you an update until he's close to being healthy,' Lewis said, before stating there is a chance Eifert misses the rest of the season. 'So he's on the mend, he's healing, he's doing things, and if he gets back and healthy, and he's gonna be able to contribute and not risk further injury, then he'll be back and out there.”
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Bengals are notoriously inaccurate in their injury updates, but this should be enough to keep everyone from carrying him in redraft leagues with hopes of him making significant contributions this season.

TB - RB Doug Martin doubtful
    Source: Buccaneers.com
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is doubtful for the team's Week 10 game.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's not even a sure thing that Martin will come back to a large role when he is over his ankle injury. He's not an essential hold in short bench leagues.

NYG - Giants plan to go deep against Seattle
    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr
New York Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo said the team plans to stay aggressive and take deep shots against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10. 'You don't ever go into a game scared. You go in and trust your plan and trust your preparation,' McAdoo said. 'We hit those throws and made those plays in practice last week. We are going to practice hard and take care of the execution and fundamentals and the physicality this week in practice and go out and expect to execute on Sunday.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Odell Beckham is at the top of his game already, and he should be the primary target if the Giants try more splash plays against the Seahawks.

ATL - RB Antone Smith listed as questionable
    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com
Atlanta Falcons RB Antone Smith (neck) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is listed as questionable for Week 10.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We're waiting to see if the long touchdown specialist can get more touches in the offense, but he might not even be worth even a desperation play at this point.

ATL - WR Harry Douglas' status in question
    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com
Atlanta Falcons WR Harry Douglas (foot) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is listed as questionable for Week 10.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Douglas's full participation is a good sign, and he would be facing a weak Tampa secondary, but he would still only be a desperation play if he can go.

NYG - RB Rashad Jennings doubtful
    Source: Giants.com
New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is doubtful for Week 10.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jennings could return next week against the 49ers in a tough matchup, but he should return to a feature back job when he does get on the field no matter when it is.

BUF - RB Fred Jackson questionable
    Source: BuffaloBills.com
Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (groin) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is questionable for Week 10.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jackson has been a limited participant in practice all week. He has a real chance to play and could torpedo whatever value Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown have right now.

NE - WR Danny Amendola's role growing
    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss
New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola's role has grown with the team's increased usage of three-receiver sets. The team used three wide receivers in 47 of 86 offensive plays last week.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Amendola still doesn't have consistent fantasy value, but if Julian Edelman gets dinged up - and he has been injury-prone in the past - Amendola could have a quick return to fantasy prominence. Keep him on your waiver wire speed dial.

JAX - WR Cecil Shorts returns Friday
Source: The Florida Times-Union - Hays Carlyon
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) returned to practice Friday, Nov. 7.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Shorts' return creates less clarity on which, if any Jaguars WR to start this week against Dallas in London. Allen Hurns is red-hot, Allen Robinson has been the most consistent, but Shorts is the most experienced. The Cowboys are a decent matchup and Blake Bortles is improving, but there's no clarity on the top option.

SEA - S Jeron Johnson may start
    Source: KJR Radio
Seattle Seahawks SS Jeron Johnson is likely to start in the team's Week 10 game in place of the injured SS Kam Chancellor (groin).
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Larry Donnell should have an easier time of it in the middle of the field with Chancellor out.

    General Team News

*** Friday Update *** TM Denver Broncos (DEN) Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase was frustrated with the effort in the running game after their Week 9 loss to the New England Patriots. "I was really frustrated with the fact that we did not run the ball better. We do need to find a way to do it better. It's something we have to keep working on. We have to find a way to get these guys covered up (blocked), get our backs back to the line of the scrimmage and see what they can do," Gase said. T Chris Clark could see his first start of the year at right tackle in Week 10 with T Paul Cornick (shoulder) injured. Also, G Louis Vasquez could shift from right guard to right tackle. However, that would mean putting C Will Montgomery or C Manuel Ramirez in at right guard. The Broncos rank 27th in the league with an average of 94.1 rushing yards per game, and they are serious about improving.
*** Friday Update *** TM New York Giants (NYG) Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo said the team plans to stay aggressive and take deep shots against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10. "You don't ever go into a game scared. You go in and trust your plan and trust your preparation," McAdoo said. "We hit those throws and made those plays in practice last week. We are going to practice hard and take care of the execution and fundamentals and the physicality this week in practice and go out and expect to execute on Sunday."
*** Friday Update *** TM New York Giants (NYG) P Steve Weatherford partially participated in Friday's practice but is still expected to play this week.

    Sunday Morning

NYG - RB Rashad Jennings does not travel
Source: New York Daily News - Ralph Vacchiano
New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (knee) did not travel with the team for their Week 10 game and has been ruled out.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jennings just started running last week. While he's getting closer, a return in Week 10 was always a little overly optimistic. We'll see if Jennings can return for Week 11. In the meantime, rookie Andre Williams will tote the rock with Peyton Hillis working as a pass-catching backup running back. Against the Seahawks in Week 10, there's not much to like about any Giants back.

SF - RB Frank Gore not being used in red zone
    Source: ESPN - Ed Werder
San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore has one touch inside the red zone in the last five games.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
How's that working out for the 49ers? Over that span, Colin Kaepernick has touched the ball 25 times, Carlos Hyde 11, Anquan Boldin 5, Michael Crabtree 5, with the last few touches going to a various other players. Hyde hasn't seen the end zone on the ground, nor has Kaepernick. Early in the season the Niners had gotten away from running Gore and when they realized it, started running him again. We have no idea if it ever will happen, which leaves Gore as no more than an RB3 with upside.

MIA - RB Lamar Miller to be limited
Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (shoulder) will play Sunday, Nov. 9, in Week 10. However, he's expected to be limited.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
That makes him a bit risky even as a low-end RB2. If you start him, we really have no idea how effective he'll be against a tough Detroit Lions front seven.

PHI - QB Nick Foles out for Week 10
    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com
Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (collarbone) didn't practice Saturday, Nov. 8, and is out for Week 10.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's the Mark Sanchez show and while Sanchez looked OK last week on short notice, Carolina has a week's worth of tape with Sanchez under center with the Eagles to watch. We see Sanchez as a high-end QB2 but there is some risk of Jets Sanchez rearing his ugly head, so be careful.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning picks on the weak
    Source: ESPN
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is 8-0 against winless teams after Week 3 in his career, and his teams are averaging 31.0 points per game in those contests. The Broncos take on the winless Oakland Raiders in Week 10.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
As if you needed more reason to plug Manning into your fantasy lineup. Eli's big bro is a locked in QB1 start this week and the only thing holding him back will be if the Broncos get up a ton on the Raiders early. Even then, he'll have already given you plenty of points before leaving the field.

DEN - Steven Johnson could start in Week 10
Source: The Denver Post - Irv Moss
Denver Broncos LB Steven Johnson may be in line to start Sunday, Nov. 9, for injured LB Nate Irving (knee), though head coach John Fox has not indicated for sure whether Johnson will get the start.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Broncos are already weak against the tight end. Now without Irving (and still without Danny Trevathan), we could see Raiders TE Mychal Rivera being a sneaky play in Week 10.

BAL - CB Jimmy Smith placed on IR
    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Ryan Mink
The Baltimore Ravens placed CB Jimmy Smith (foot) on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Nov. 8. The team also signed CB Rashaan Melvin off the Miami Dolphins' practice squad. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Ravens have an already weak secondary, and without Smith it won't be much better. Expect opponents to attack Baltimore through the air.

KC - ILB Joe Mays activated
    Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan
The Kansas City Chiefs activated LB Joe Mays (wrist) from the Active/Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Nov. 8. The team also waived LB Jerry Franklin.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Mays is a run-stuffing linebacker who should help the Chiefs run defense.

KC - S Eric Berry may receive more time
    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher
Kansas City Chiefs SS Eric Berry (ankle) may receive more work on defense in Week 10, according to defensive coordinator Bob Sutton. Berry played 51 out of 69 defensive snaps in his first game back from a high ankle sprain in Week 9.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The team worked Berry back in last week, and his role should increase as he gets healthier. More Berry is nothing but a good thing for that Chiefs defense.

Not supposed to be per NFL rules, teams get fined for falsifying official injuries reports. That hasn't stopped Belichick though for flooding the reports with guys with hangnails.

    Severity not known yet.

Brandon Marshall was forced from Sunday night's game against the Packers with a left ankle injury.

The Bears have ruled him out for the rest of the game. Marshall limped off the field after getting tackled in the fourth quarter. This is separate from the right ankle injury Marshall played through earlier this season. More will be known when the Bears update his status, but Marshall is likely going to miss practice time next week. He finished with a team-high eight catches for 112 yards and a touchdown before exiting.

Doesn't sound serious, but it's early.

Brandon Marshall said the ankle injury he sustained Sunday night won't keep him out of Week 11.

Marshall limped off in the fourth quarter, long after the game had already been decided. It's possible he could have kept playing if it was close. The good news is that the sprain is not to the same ankle he hurt earlier this season and we know he can suit up without practicing. The Bears host the Vikings in a 1pm ET game Week 11. Owners looking for insurance should note that Marquess Wilson (broken collarbone) has resumed practicing.
