i still remember coming home from school and watching the last few innings of the game where wood fanned 20. he struck out like 5 of the last 6 guys he faced or something like that. maybe 3 of the last 4. that was like 15 years ago, it's a little fuzzy. but either way that is unreal.

2003 Cubs, what could have been.

That was actually a really good team with three good starting pitchers. Zambrano was a good pitcher as well and you had a roided up Sosa in the middle of the lineup.

I miss the steroid era. So much more exciting than watching dudes strikeout 200 times a year.

they went 38 and 23 the rest of the way. But an 88-74 team was not some jaugarnaut

they made some nice trades at the end of the year and got hot.

but the playoff series loss was crushing because of the Bartman game and blowing their series lead....

NOT because they were some prohibitive faves

They weren't dominant but you could feel if they slipped into the playoffs they could do some damage with that 1-2 punch + a young (and good) zambrano.

Obviously the bartman incident was devastating but they had numerous chances to come back and win that series. I believe that happened in the 8th of game 6.

Exactly. They still had game 7 at home and Wood starting.

2008 was just pure disappointment as the Cubs were definitely the best team during the regular season.

2003 was more like shock and awe.
