    They're not "shitting the bed."

They just don't give a f\*\*k. At $20 plus million per guaranteed to play a game, you and I wouldn't either.

Obviously what I meant. Get money, sit back and do nothing. I'm not sure about myself, I'm competitive so I would like to break records and win championships. Some players are like that, some aren't.

These guys were all like that at one point in time. Can't get to the bigs without drive.

Once those monstrous checks start flowing in no matter what, playing through the dog days and giving max effort just doesn't compute anymore.

I hear ya, those that do are few and far between. I feel like it's especially true in baseball. In the NFL, you have QB's who all really want to win. It may not be as hard physically or mentally as a QB, I'm not sure. Plus the money in baseball is just filthy with the guaranteed money for a ridiculous amount of years. Can just fold up shop right after you sign the contract.

I think a lot has to do with the # of games you play. NFL is only 16 games, and yeah, guys can get cut and don't really have guaranteed money after their signing bonuses.

Big money has ruined the attitudes and work ethics of players in both the NBA and MLB.

Makes sense, 16 games and no guarantees for many gives you that incentive. Baseball season is a bitch, even as a fan. I don't pay attention until about now. I couldn't imagine playing nearly every damn day especially at a high level, gotta absolutely love the game to do that, like the late great Tony Gwynn.

I understand what you guys are saying, and those players drive me NUTS, but there are way more guys that come to the ballpark most every day than the other way around. A lot has to do with what team they are on and what the best players on that team's mindset is.

I will liken it to the NHL. Nobody on the Penguins ever takes a day off, hell, not even a shift off, because Crosby is not only the best but also works the hardest and wants it the most.

Some team's breed a lazy culture.....others are there to have fun and if they win they win, and others want it.....bad. You see any guys on the A's taking games off? And that isn't only because they are a bunch of other teams cast-aways.....it is top down.

Kemp is a lazy POS, and you can absolutely see that he doesn't care in the least. Talent out the ying-yang, but now that he has the money he is done.....you see Ichiro taking any days off? Trout? Bautista? Cabrera?

Anyway....I just wanted to stick up for the 75% of players making big time money that are still coming to work every day, and loving my game....the others can f off and die.

That restores my faith a bit, D2D. I knew they weren't all lazy but it just seems like so many that get the big contract just slowly regress. I'm not a huge baseball fan so it's hard for me to speak on the subject with any absolutes.

Owners/GMs are to be blamed too. Teams need to start letting some of these guys walk and collect a first round pick when the player signs with another team.

One should sum up all the numbers from those senseless contracts and then ask the GMs how many beer they could have bought for this money.

Baseball would be a lot better if the owners would come together in unity and decide to only give these guys a maximum of three-year contracts. It'll never happen, but it would be nice. The other day I even heard Vin Scully saying at some press conference the one thing he would change in baseball are the long-term deals.

Absolutely. Problem is, they are filthy rich. Paying a guy $15 vs. $22 million a year doesn't even register with them. It's peanuts.

The money has spoiled the well with everyone -- not just the players. Owners throw it around like it's Monopoly money.

No Coin is right. These guys work so hard for the big contract. It's why they stay late and hit extra, go to the weight room or run in the middle of the night. All of their actions and life revolves around getting the big one.

And the it happens. Then what? Why stay late and hit anymore? The main driving force is gone

It's all guaranteed, win or lose.

When you're making that kind of scratch, why do you care if you win or lose? Get a big hit or ground into a double play? Answer: you don't.
