If you want to call him a good, very good or even great pitcher, by all means, go ahead. But if you're going to say he's better than Darvish and Cueto, you have to start nitpicking and judging at a very elite level.
But again, your major knock against him is not even true, take a look at his road numbers last year other than W/L. And I actually see his youth as an advantage as he will only get better (or would have depending on injury), not only maintaining his great start this year but actually improving his numbers, hence my Cy Young prediction And for the record, Cueto is not even in the top 30 in FIP, although he is seventh in xFIP (Great American factor).

looks like it will be tommy john surgery indeed. Its a shame, wouldn't be surprised if he misses all of next season as well.

His road # last year were not that of an elite pitcher. Period. And they were even worse in a small sample size this season.

1.71 ERA is exceptional. Don't be a hater.

This has to be a record of Tommy Johns in one year. What a blow to the talents who are receiving them.

If he gets it right away, he might make it back for the second half of next season. Bad break for the Marlins.

Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the Marlins anticipate Jose Fernandez needing season-ending elbow surgery.

It had been trending that direction, but this is the first we've heard of a Marlins source conceding that Tommy John surgery is a likely outcome. Fernandez has already undergone a pair of MRIs and a decision about his status should be made soon. The stud young right-hander has put up a 2.44 ERA and 70/13 K/BB ratio in 51 2/3 innings this season.

Marlins have won 64% of Jose Fernandez's starts the last 2 seasons, but only 36% of starts by other pitchers

If they trade Stanton away there would be no reason to follow the franchise until JF comes back.

Did anyone point out that Martin Perez is the latest victim?

    Latest Headlines

Martin Perez to undergo Tommy John surgery

Martin Perez (elbow) told Venezuelan publication Lavinotinto that he will undergo Tommy John surgery.

Perez was diagnosed with a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow earlier this week, so surgery considered inevitable. The 23-year-old has yet to schedule a date for surgery, but he's done for the season and figures to miss the early part of 2015, as well.

    Christian Yelich and Steve Cisheck.

Stanton isn't going anywhere in the near future. He's not a free agent next year.
