Mets' Bobby Parnell to Have Tommy John Surgery

This year is a total write-off for the Mets, might as well get all of the better players ready for next year.

Valverde is probably the best arm on that team other than my boy Mejia, and will be the closer all year.
He will have a good year, he's looked good in the few times I watched him.
Unfortunately for him, he will only get about 30 save opps on this shithole team.

TJ surgery oughtta just be a minor league requirement. Everyone ends up there anyways.

Yeah, WvGambler is on to something. I'm more surprised these days when I find that some guy who has been in the league 5+ years hasn't had that surgery. It probably isn't far-fetched to see the day when a team will just put their draft pick pitchers under the knife right away and be done with it.

I don't think organizations will want to stunt the development of young pitchers by taking away one year (or sometimes two years) of experience at a young age unnecessarily. Now maybe they would opt for the surgery at the first hint of trouble, but I doubt they would make it a blanket requirement.

As a Tiger fan, I can attest to the fact that he has nothing -- absolutely zero -- left in the tank and is pretty much the worst reliever in baseball not named Phil Coke.

    My condolences.

5-0 lead in the bottom of the 9th and he gives up back to back homeruns to the first 2 batters he faces. Valverde shouldn't even be in a major league squad yet the Mets still have him as their closer.

Time for Kyle Farnsworth to take over closing duties. He was very solid as a closer with the Rays before his injury a few years back and has had a solid start to the season as well.

I wouldn't trust him either. But if you're comparing him to Papa Grande, then yes.

Of course, if you compared yourself closing to Valverde, I'd say it's a good idea.

Mets expected to make a change at closer

Valverde surrendered three runs Saturday against the Braves in his latest of a string of rough outings. Mets manager Terry Collins said he would address his players before making an official announcement to the media. Vic Black has been putting up zeroes at Triple-A, but his control is still an issue. The Mets might go with a committee.

Problem with Farnsworth is his velocity has been steadily declining the last few years.

For as bad as Farnsworth is, guess it's better to throw a straight fastball at 94 than a splitter that doesn't split at 86, which is the puss/batting practice Valverde was lobbing in there.

Only the Mets would be dumb enough to give that fatass another chance. He should've been out of baseball for a while now, yet some dysfunctional franchise always wants to be the hero.
