If 49ers win last 2 games, they lock up 5-seed.

Best matchup would be niners vs Seahawks for the NFC crown.

Obviously and would love to see it. But that's the drawback of having two best teams in the conference in the same division, they could meet a week earlier than everyone would like.

Correct, but if they slip up, say in their last game, they lose tiebreakers to both Carolina and New Orleans.

True. But I don't think they will slip up since they know getting the five seed could mean avoiding Seattle until championship, so they will probably play it straight and not rest anyone.

The may play it straight, but the Cards have played them pretty tough in Zona the last few years.

Defense was actually playing pretty well until Rodgers went out. Great quarterbacks are a defenses best friend. Ask the Colts when Manning went down.

Another GB fan that doesn't pay attention. Being in the bottom of the league in yards and points allowed is not playing pretty well.

Will the 49ers win a playoff game?

I have the San Francisco 49ers winning their first playoff game for now! Not sure about the second playoff game yet? I believe the 49ers are good enough to win the Super Bowl this year!

This niners team is a garbage team. No way they win a playoff game.

Has SF even played a cold weather game yet, let alone snow? Could be an issue.

A team built on smash mouth defense and great run game is perfect for cold weather.

What slacker said, cold weather would benefit Niners. I just hope they avoid Seattle in second round, but if it happens, we get an early de facto NFC Championship Game. I don't see any other NFC team as a serious threat, the only other team with half a pulse is Carolina,. but I don't think they are ready yet.

Now that I think about it, Carolina +450 to win the NFC could be a good bet because you could guarantee a profit as long as they win their first playoff game, which if things go as they should would be at home vs. Philly. Only thing that would kill this strategy is a loss at Atlanta this week. Assuming Panthers beat Falcons, then they should beat Eagles and if they face Seattle, Seahawks probably won't be higher than -300 on ML. And if they face 49ers, scalp is super-golden.

Brees and company may pull off one or two wins, but 3 road wins by the Saints seems unlikely. At least they have a D.

Saints should get cold weather game at Philly to start though, I think they lose right away.

There is no "probably", 49ers are absolutely second best team that have the misfortune to be in same division as Seattle.

That's nice in theory, but these are humans we're talking about. If these guys haven't experienced sub-zero weather, it could be a real shock to the system. Who says run game is best in freezing weather? I think it's just as good for passing game. I'm just talking the physiological effect that it has.

Sagarin has 49ers second in entire NFL. He has:

    Seattle -3.5 Niners
    Niners -1 Denver
    Niners -1 Panthers

You DO realize they get the Packers/Bears winner right? Only way Niners could possibly lose is if Packers win this week and then Rodgers is well enough to play wild card game. But even there, Niners should still make enough stops on defense and do whatever they want vs. Packers defense.

49ers won in Washington earlier this year 27-6. Last year 49ers won @NE 41-34. Both games were around freezing. If you are talking about truly below zero, it rarely happens, only twice in the past decade: CHI 20 GB17 in 2008 and NYG 23 GB 20 in the 2007 NFC title game.
