Lotto (Mega Millions) top prize could reach a Billion tonight

    You in?

Up to 600 million right now, people are racing to their local agents.

    That's serious, life changing cheddar.

Gotta be in it to win it !

Ours in Oz tonight was 70 million which is still a huge chunk of cash and someone won it. I learned so many things in the TT but I think the best one was on another site where all the former TT guys explained to me how my idea that I'd have a better chance of winning in such a small country was bs. I was so convinced I could game the system with fewer potential buyers here but nope! Stupid Shari. I did win $400 tonight though off of $22 spent so that's something... sure ain't 70 million though.

If you take the lump sum (less than the full amount), after taxes, what % is the take home? Like 40%? Just curious?

Pretty much, if there is one winner, lump sum after taxes, clears 450 million give or take.

You get half less the taxes if you take the lump sum

The other I believe is paid in full over 30 Years.

After 90 days if you don't claim you cant take the lump sum...

    Something like that.

So 1 billion, half is 500 mil, minus another 40% taxes (assuming no state taxes) would be 300 mil. So it's closer to 30%?

Yes plus whatever you earned for the year! ~

But you can claim your gambling loses up to your winnings if you have proof.

Tough to get a voucher from the sportsbooks and locals tho.

So Brock landers wouldn't have to pay taxes on the $640 million then.

I always play when it gets outrageous like this.

I was getting gas this morning and some lady bought 20 bucks worth of tickets--- but didn't know she could not pay with her CC.

So it turns out-- the store/clerk is on the hook for those tickets--- they usually get sold.

    I bought them----

I may owe that lady a few bucks.....

Yeah I had a lady ahead of me buy $5 worth but wanted individual tickets to give as gifts.

    She wanted to exchange them.

You know I was going to let that happen!

$220 mil after taxes is what this would pay out with the lump sum.

If you take the annuity, you're a goddamn moron.

Only reason I can think of would be to basically ensure you can't blow it all - but even then you could sell the lump sum to someone who would certainly pay you a higher annuity then lotto (i.e. I think the annuity is over 39 years right? So if you did that, the lotto would give you a check for approx $16.4m every year for 39 years. Cash option is approx $340m, you could sell that to a number of brokers who would likely give you at least 18-19m a year because they could generate much more than that off of investments.)

So if anyone wins - lets talk before you take that annuity - I will get you more every year and just take a small finders fee for the service

If I win tonight I'd be just fine with $340 million lump sum and wouldn't even care about making a lot of interest.

I'd probably just split it up into 8 or 10 safe banks around the world, most of it would be here in Canada though.

i know it's not the smartest thing to do but why do I need to turn $340 mil into 500 million.
