For a team like the Yankees, you really don't even need to look at the numbers on the contract. Many of the teams in MLB have plenty of cash, not an issue, It really comes down to can he help the team?

If he can. Good move. If he is no better or worse than any alternatives then its a bad move.

How many World Series they won since their payroll went to $300 million or more. They have spend $10 billion dollars on payroll the last 15 years and they have what 1 World Series?

The people who were winning the WS for the Yankees in the 50's were not mercenaries. They were making average money for the times and yes I know how to calculate inflation.

And what's the other reason is Crawford the only guey on the list everyone will compare him to?

Because they're both spending big portions of their career out of action

we have seen many different styles of baseball teams win.

The Redsox didnt exactly have "great" pitching. They had decent pitching
    and crushed the baseball.

Last years SF Giants fit more of the mold of the scrappy great pitching teams.

I'm calling it right now... If Billy Beane is not a cheap mother the Athletics will finally win the World Series next season.

He tends to get injured quite a bit
The Yankees have Nova and Sabathia (who I think is going downhill) who else starts for them and who closes for them to win a World Series in the next couple years?
I think Els can help the team but they are overpaying him
I hope Cano gets screwed for using JZ as his agent

All of a sudden Ellsbury is going to jack home runs? Have you seen the porch in right at Fenway? That pole is literally right in front of you. Ellsbury hit double digit HR's once and that was when he was undoubtedly on steroids. He got injured the next season and that was that. You're getting a .300 hitter, 100 runs, 45 SB player for $21M a year.

    Enjoy.

    This
    Drinker spot on again.

The Twins have a Jackie Bradley Jr. His name is Aaron Hicks.
They are pretty much the same players, both slick fielding, speedy center fielders with sky high OBA's
Hicks put up pretty much the same numbers in 2012 at the AA level as Bradley did.

When Hicks got to the big club last year he hit .192 and got sent down.
When Bradley made the big club last year, he hit .189 and got sent down

The two of them are the same players.
They are what they are, that is AAAA ball players.
Better than AAA, not ready for prime time.

come on man, you know the only way to get a cheap home run to right at Fenway is to dead pull the ball to the 302 foot pole, after that it's a 380 foot shot 10 feet going ttowards center right before you get to right center, don't make it same iit's that easy

Kid will be hurt by May 1st, have you ever seen him go after a flyball? makes the routine catches, anything near a wall or fence is an adventure. Hopefully he doesnt hit anything going after the ball or he will claim "bruised ribs". Redsox arent given anyone a 7 year deal for anything close to 150, last few big contracts did not work out well and they found the Dodgers to help em out....Redsox have alot of talent in the minors, Ells is a very good player, but the Redsox did not lose all that much... As far as hitting one out to right in Yankee staduim, even Deemer cant hit one out.... But my question is, is Ells gonna have fifty steals or 40 homeruns?Enjoy the kid yank fans, its like you just jumped on a 10 points Favorite when the line opened at 4, most of the value is gone...Yanks will only improve with better pitching and less injuries, signing Ellsbury wont be a factor in either of those.......

Now how about the major signing of the day? Aj Pierzynski to the Redsox for 1 year and 8 million

Sometimes less is more. The Yankees don't seem to get this. They think they need to make a move every single year.
A spent and old Soriano comes to mind for me. Speed went to shit before the ink dried on a huge long term contract.
