Nationals acquire Fister from the Tigers

Stupid move by Detroit I think. You gotta have great pitching if you want to win. Guy has been solid. Better hope Porcello can fill that hole.

Smyly goes to 3 spot. Porcello stays where he is.

I definitely don't want Smyly in there. Porcello was great the 2nd half of last year and deserved to be in the starting rotation in the playoffs but there just wasn't room. I still don't trust him tho.

moving Smyly into the starting rotation was inevitable. What did the Nationals give up though?

Porcello is not the answer. The Tigers are done. They lost their leader and their clean-up man they are done

It wouldnt shock me if they dont make the playoffs next season.

    the team is in shambles.

    Dumping Prince was genius.
Just a fat load who is only going to get worse. O for the playoffs as well.

The Fister move is bad no matter what they are getting in return.
You have him for 7 mill this year and probably 8 mill next year.
The reality of it is Scherzer is massively overrated and Fister is underrated, but you're going to pay Scherzer 3 times as much for an excessive amount of years and you're dumping the guy who is well priced and locked in for the next 2. Scherzer isn't worth half of what he's going to get, keep in mind he had the #1 run support of any starter in MLB. It's easy to pitch when you have a 5-0 lead every time you go out there.

Fister is a solid #2 for most rotations and a good price. Great move by the Nats. Straight steal there by management picking him off for 15 or so million for the next 2 years.
For Christ sake, Scott Cokksmear just signed 22 mill for 2 years with Oakland. Do the math lol. Who would you rather have? Fister, and it's not even close.

Terrible trade by the Tigers. All their doing is trying get money available for Max in 2014/15

Fukking GM should be fired. They were 2 wins from the World Series and now they're playing scared.

Fister is a very good starter and is outshined by Verlander and Max twice a week. Kid just made Washington the best staff in all of baseball.

You do realize their rotation was:

    R
    R
    R
    R
    R

Now it can be argued that Fister should've been kept over Scherzer, but it can also be argued that Scherzer has developed into one of the game's true aces and those don't come around all the time. I like Fister a lot personally as a Tiger fan, but someone has to be the odd man out. Apparently they're going to stick with Porcello and see what happens. It was Smyly's time to enter the rotation and break up the right-handed monotony. Personally, I'd rather defer to Dombrowski -- one of baseball's truly great minds -- as opposed to listening to the worthless opinions of Big Bear and NY210, who are both proven morons.

Tigers needed roster flexibility, both with their personnel and salary. They added a much-needed utility infielder and some bullpen help -- a big weakness -- in exchange for one of their starters (four legit, plus Smyly and Porcello).

It made sense to deal a SP. Again, I would've loved to see DD trade Porcello, but I doubt he would've gotten much more than a box of rocks for him. I'm sure the Tigers aren't done, though. We'll see where this ends up when pitchers and catchers report. Until then, it's not worth judging this trade in a vacuum.

Tigers just signed Nathan 2 years and $20 million. Needed a close but damn. That's more than they were paying Fister. Should have kept him.
