The Eagles return home after spending their holiday week in Las Vegas, where they went 2-2 including a 81-70 loss to UCLA. They have not been home since Nov 17th. They will host the Raiders who are riding a 2 game winning streak and 4 out of their last 5. Granted the competition has been weak, they are still playing better ball. They do have two respectable efforts losing @ Georgetown 88-70 (who just got on 'em early, jumping out to a 30-11 lead) The Raiders settled in and actually won the next 3 quarters. They also lost @ DePaul 81-72 (where they lead the entire game but DePaul just took over late.
There are a lot mismatches in this game that really stand out. Wright St is 57th in Effective FG% vs Morehead being 200th in defense. On the other side Morehead is 173 in EFG% compared to Wright St being 274 in defense.
Both of these squads turn the ball over at an alarming rate, ranking 298th & 332nd which is flat out awful. On the flip side they are both in the top 20 at forcing Turnovers. They both force over 22 a game and create over 10 steals.
Another important note is that the Eagles have a huge edge on the glass in this one. Wright St has struggled to box their opponents out this season and Morehead is excellent at getting second opportunities.
Both teams rank in the top 54 in Attempted FT's and FG's per game.
All this adds up to a ton of possessions in this match-up. Both teams average over 76 per and I see no reason why that will slow down here.
The turnovers should lead to a lot of easy buckets and I expect the game to be very close throughout so late fouling and overtime will be in play.
Both teams Play Man defense so no slowed down possessions working the ball around the zone.
Morehead is very deep putting 4 in double figures but many contribute. Wright St is equally balanced using their entire roster putting 8 players over 7 ppg.
These teams should have fresh legs tonight after not playing for a few days.
Side note Wright St's AJ Pacher is leading the nation in FG% @ over 79%.
