Most books understand, tell him you can pay 50 or 100 a week until the debt is paid.
If you continue to gamble with him, have him limit you, by that I mean, once you are down a certain amount, you are cut off until you pay it down.
Most books are not hardasses, they are business men, they understand and most will work with you.
Don't stiff anybody, once you are labeled a stiff, it's a tough label to get rid of, and it's pretty low.
Set up payment plan, even if only $25/week.

You stated you know he wont come after you and your integrity means very little so you must have come here for the attention.
So you have no integrity, your an attention whore and you have a gambling problem, and your broke. Congrats. Just be glad God (or natural selection) has a very loose policy for allowing continued life otherwise you might have reason to be worried.

What if he owed you $800 and stiffed you....How well would that go over? Pay your debt somehow, sell something... IF you think you will never gamble again your lying to youself... If another local took your wagers you would roll it... You ever owe or win $$ from this Local before?
I was a liaison for an office, I did the leg work, occasionally I would work the phones, but not often.
My job was to deliver, and collect, so I saw both sides of the coin on a weekly basis.
Buzzy the boss (and I betting the guy who you are considering stiffing) never stiffed anybody.
Books provide a service, they risk jail time, they are usually manning the telephones, or in todays age, replying to texts and e-mails when they say would.
If a regular was a little short they would say to me "Billy (my name in real life), my brakes gave out, (or whatever), had to pony up 300 to Midas so I can get to work in my car, here's a deuce, tell Buzzy sorry, I'll get him the other 300 I owe him first chance"
