I've been betting on games basically every day of my life for the last four-plus years. This came after 15 full seasons devoted to fantasy sports. Pretty much the only two hobbies I have, other than golf and outdoor stuff. I don't work on things, fix things, build things, etc. No patience or attention span for it. I love sports and numbers. That's why I was addicted to fantasy sports, and why I'm now addicted to gambling.

Some days I find it really pathetic that I can't even go a day or two without making a wager anymore. Is this how I'm going to be at 40? 50? 60? Will I be placing bets in the bathroom during my grandkids' birthday parties? I never thought the day would come when I'd quit fantasy sports, and I was really all-in with that for a while, but I did -- only to start doing this. Gambling is like fantasy sports on steroids. So much instant gratification and driven by immediate results. Not sure if I'll ever kick the habit or drop the obsession.

Don't live in the D anymore, tat. But I am in a cold-weather climate where I'm not able to get out much in the winter months.

I'll also say this: being in a job where I'm front of a computer a lot doesn't help my cause. I do a lot of multi-tasking where I'm working on work stuff but also have SBR and today's lines and everything else up in other windows on my computer.

I'm not much of a card/poker player. Never really got into that. I've been a sports addict all of my life though, and I love to compete and to participate in things that are challenging and very difficult to "beat." That is gambling to a T. Some days, I feel like this is part of my makeup. Some days, I wish I'd never crossed the threshold.

I don't do that stuff in my spare/free time because it's not fun to me. I didn't say I couldn't do it. I grew up working on cars and doing projects around the house, so I wasn't exactly interested in it from a "spare time" perspective when I got older. But that's PP for you -- anything to try and get a trollfest going because he aches for human interaction.

I can understand playing poker with buddies if you have a definite advantage. What I've never understood is the on-line poker/casinos. Wouldn't it be easy for the establishments to just rig these games? Doesn't make sense to me, and doesn't seem like it would be a fair game to try and beat.

NoCoin.....I imagine you could quit if you really wanted/needed too. The deal is, you've really never had a reason to give it up. You clearly have your life in order. You realize that family, health, work, etc.....all come way before gambling. I've seen you mention that you only gamble with your disposable income, and it's never been a financial burden for you. So it's not really fair to say that you "couldn't" quit. I would imagine someone with priorities as lined up as yours appear could give all this up much easier than you'd imagine if need be.

I don't possess the "addictive gene", if you will. I've tried a lot of things over the years, and as far as I can tell, I've never been addicted to anything. When the time was right to give whatever it was up....that was that. Moved on.

Yeah, I suppose you're right opie. While I am, to be honest, addicted to the action, I'm not doing this to try and make a living or serious money. I guess this is still "new" enough to me that I get a thrill from daily action. Maybe I won't be singing the same tune in 5-10 years. I never figured I'd quit fantasy sports either, but the research and the grind was taking up too much of my time -- I spent way more time on that than I do betting on sports.
