New Jersey Nets 2013-14. Contenders or pretenders? Poll inside.

Let's get all this debate in before the season starts.

Let me get it started by saying they are gonna be 110% PRETENDERS.
I am definitely rooting against them this year either way and hope they fail miserably.

Yes, they will win some games, I'd say around 48-50. I believe their team win total is 52.5. You get plus juice taking the under.

Does anyone REALLY think this team is gonna be better than the Bulls,Heat,PAcers, Or Knicks?

We watched the Knicks dominate the Celtics last year in the playoffs. We watch KG and Pierce both basically tell Ray Allen he was dead to them after he left for the Heat (Then he won a ring).
THEN after the Knicks jam it in them about 6 months later, they bolt quicker than Crustyme in a weekly pick thread where he goes 1-8.
Never seen bigger hypocrites in my life.

Jason Kidd coaching is a gamble. I mean we gotta be honest, past alcohol and wife-beating issues.
I like the guy but there were probably 500 better candidates for this job than him.

So you have Kg, Pierce- another year older and basically already showed their age last year in those playoffs.
Joe Johnson, Darren Williams- never won a fkn thing in this league.
Lopez- yet to play a full healthy season I believe.

Even if they do good during the regular season, can they actually beat top notch teams in the East in a 7 game series??

What do my NBA ppl think on here?
Is anyone going to go out on a limb and says this team makes a run?

The one thing I did like to see was Kidd say Williams will go back to averaging 10 assists per game.
He tried doing way too much last year and made himself a more selfish player. He needs to go back to his old form to be successful.
17 and 10 should be a realistic goal for him. He doesn't need to score 20 a game now. He needs to bring his assists up.
I think he went from 11 per game with Utah to a career low 7-7.5 last year maybe?
I just guess I don't look it up, someone will probably correct me on this lol.
I just know watching him last year he wasn't himself. Heaving up contested 25 footers, shoot first mentality etc.

    good thread

will comment more when I have time later

but I think that under 52.5 because Kidd has zero experience and the

Nets will have to rest their starters periodically throughout the season more then most squads.

Will be a bit of a clusterfukk with this starting 5 on the court unless they really learn eachothers tendencies quickly.

I can see a 48-34 record from them but not a 53-29 season

Will make a playoff run if everyone stays healthy.....Hard to say over/under because we don't know if they will rest guys alot or what

Would take them in a playoff series against everyone in the East except the Heat

They have a damn good bench that people don't even realize

Hmm well one thing is certain i would not bet on this team unless they were a home dog or short favorite on national tv.

They are the type or team that will go thru the motions during the regular season and maybe just maybe give 100% if its a Thursday night TNT game vs the Knicks or Heat.

If they are still healthy come playoff time.. Yes they could make some noise but I dont see any scenario whatsoever that they beat the Heat.

I think they go over that number but they 100% arent a threat to win a title.

This is a good point also as far as the win total. Grandpa KG will definitely need his beauty rest to keep him as fresh as possible for the playoffs.

So im gonna start this off by saying I'm a Nets fan, and they don't play in Jersey anymore lol.

Your probably right about them winning right around or just below 50 games again.

Not cause they're gonna be pretenders, but because they're probably gonna treat the regular season like the celtics and spurs have for the last few seasons. Giving guys nights off on back-to-backs, and long road trips. They got enough talent where they're not gonna need dudes to play 35 minutes a night and through nagging injuries (already hearing williams might miss the first few games of the regular season). Plus gotta figure they start slow as they get used to playing with each other.

"Jason Kidd coaching is a gamble. I mean we gotta be honest, past alcohol and wife-beating issues.
I like the guy but there were probably 500 better candidates for this job than him."

Not worried about this. He's got Lawrence Frank there to guide him, plus this team is full of veterans.

"Joe Johnson, Darren Williams- never won a fkn thing in this league."

Feel like this combo isnt the greatest pairing, with Joe's ball stopping. But he's Iso Joe. Knew what they were getting when they acquired him. Curious to see how adding Pierce to the mix changes things.

"Lopez- yet to play a full healthy season I believe."

Besides breaking his foot 2 seasons ago and missing like a 10 game stretch last season, he's always been healthy. Hopefully some of Garnett's rebounding will rub off on him.

"He tried doing way too much last year and made himself a more selfish player. He needs to go back to his old form to be successful.
17 and 10 should be a realistic goal for him. He doesn't need to score 20 a game now. He needs to bring his assists up."

He should have no problem getting that if he's healthy. Just by replacing one of the worst jump shooters in the nba last season(Gerald Wallace) and a guy who makes you cringe everytime he touches the ball on offense(Reggie Evans) in the starting lineup with Pierce and Garnett should add 2 or 3 assists a night to his total every night. Plus he should be able to get better looks for himself since all the guys on d will actually have to stay with their men and won't be able to help as much.

Does anyone REALLY think this team is gonna be better than the Bulls,Heat,PAcers, Or Knicks?

Regular season, nah. Playoffs if they're healthy, their gonna be a tough out, unlike the squad last season.

Hope we get a Nets-Knicks playoff series this year. Its rare both teams are good at the same time.

This is pretty much the old celtics, williams is rondo when he was healthy, i could argue avery Bradley is not that much worse then joe Johnson . Brook lopez is a fagggot, ak47 was a decent pickup, blatche is a douche.Ceiling for them is 5th seed. Can make a little noise but not a title threat

of the listed teams their better than the Knicks. Melo might be in his last year their, you don't know what your gonna get from Amare and Bargnani's lack of playing Defense fits right in. I'm still not sold on the Bulls, as I have no idea what Rose will be like this year. Nets will likely as a couple posters already stated will definitely be resting older players later in the season and their ceiling is 55 wins imo. 52.5 is a tough number and I can't get myself to bet the under at that number. 53 I definitely would take the under if the line moves up before next week. Wouldn't be surprised if the Heat don't have the best record in the East. As far as the Pacers their still the 2nd best team in the East behind Miami. Added another big man in Scola, getting a scorer back in Granger and Hibbert and Hill will only get better. Given home court advantage in a 7 game series I think they can beat anyone in the East including the Heat.

I think this team could win 55 games. It really depends on how Kidd decides to use KG and Pierce. If he saves them like Doc did, then they'll be right around 50 wins. They aren't on the same level as Miami, Chicago or Indiana but I have them slightly better than the Knicks. I can see them in the 4-5 spot in the East and a 2nd round exit.

For sure. Nets will never be New York's team. I can understand how the Nets are begging for the rivalry, but New York will always be the Knickerbockers and the Garden.
