Report: Dodgers offered Clayton Kershaw 'around' $300M- And he said NO Hahahaha

Man, there is no way this is true.
Does anyone believe Kershaw turned this down earlier in the season?
He will go down as the biggest idiot of all-time if he did.

How much is that offer going to be now after he crumbled vs. the Cards with the season on the line?
That offer goes down 15-20% minimum from that last game.
Who the fkkkkkk can offer more than 300 mill anyways?
    NO ONE.
    WTF IS HE THINKING???????????

    Here's the article:

    Dodgers
ace Clayton Kershaw was offered a "lifetime contract in the range of $300 million" earlier in the 2013 season, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney.

And, according to Olney, Kershaw amazingly turned it down.
    My head is spinning.
The largest contract ever given to a pitcher came when the Tigers gave Justin Verlander an extension that made his current contract into a seven-year, $180 million deal.
Given the track record of pitchers breaking down as they age -- not to mention Verlander having just gone through a down season -- it's astounding that the Dodgers would go so far beyond the established market for aces.
Yes, Kershaw is largely regarded at present to be the best pitcher in baseball. He's likely to win his second Cy Young in the past three seasons and he was the runner-up last season. He'd led the majors in ERA in three straight seasons after posting a ridiculous 1.83 figure this season. And he's only 25 years old.
With all that in mind, it makes a lot of sense for him to be able to cash in with a record (for a pitcher) deal, but going around $120 million more than the previous record seems like lunacy.
On the flip-side, how is Kershaw turning this down? It would unbelievably shatter the previous record, he's set then for life and knows he can stay in Los Angeles on a high-profile and probably regularly-competitive team given how lavishly they're likely to keep spending. What, pray tell, is the downside to accepting such a deal?
There's definitely downside to not taking it. What if he gets hurt? What if he has an off-year next year before hitting free agency? What if the team just watched him implode in an elimination game in the playoffs and would now be worried about committing so much to him?
So much wild in this report.

Yeah Buster Onley pretty solid with reports.
Hard to believe he wouldn't wanna discuss 300 million though.
    Pretty stupid on his part.
His arm can snap at anytime.

It's a bad contract. If he plays 20 more years it will only average 15 million a year.

The problem with lifetime contracts is they don't pay the money up front.

Kershaw wants a contract that will pay 25-30 million in the first 3-4 years.

Pitchers should make at least $100,000 per inning pitched or $10,000 per pitch thrown.

hard to give that money to a pitcher who can get hurt easily and only plays 35 games a year and can't carry you in a 7 game series without another quality number 2 starter

Kershaw has maybe 15 years left in him total. At $20 million a year he should be so fortunate to be offered that. His last 5-6 years he will probably be mediocre or like a Jonathan Niese type at best. Look what happened to Barry Zito his last 5 years.

That game won't effect Kershaw's contract in any way. He's been the best pitcher is baseball for years, and he put together one of the most dominant 2 seasons in a row in baseball history.

There will be many teams lining up to give a Southpaw of Kershaw's caliber big time money if LA isn't willing to do so.

The odds that he makes it through 15 more seasons without completely breaking down is 500 to 1.

Dodgers can afford it hes the best lefty for sure in the game I wonder if they still can go after price? mattingly looks like hes most likely gone they just fired his bench coach for that little outburst he pulled yesterday .... Donny keep your mouth shut you made some horrible decisions last year you'll be lucky if they keep you around for what will be playoff run after playoff run.
