WTF has happened to David Freese?

    5 HR's on the year and a pathetic 34 RBI in 300 AB's.

Has now hit into 2 double plays tonight.

    WTH happened to this guy?

He's 30. He'll hit for average, get on base, but that's about it...he'll spend a few weeks on the DL too. His power numbers last year were an aberration. Not a bad player, but he was never really special.

Absolute abortion at the plate and not even running hard to 1st.

Cardinals have to get rid of this stiff.

Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports that the Yankees are talking to the Cardinals about a trade for third baseman David Freese.

Freese will only get more expensive as he continues to go through the arbitration process and the Cardinals have the ability to move Matt Carpenter to third base and play Kolten Wong at second base, so it's no surprise to hear about the possibility of a trade. The 30-year-old is coming off a down year in which he hit .262/.340/.381 with nine homers and 60 RBI over 521 plate appearances, but he would be a solid backup plan for Alex Rodriguez.

I'm surprised he has any trade value at all. A minus defender, and can't hit anymore. Yankees are the perfect team to dump him to, I hope they can pull it off.

Freese had a unproductive year , no denying that.

Still not sure how I feel about Cards trading him though.

In one year he had more of a direct impact for his team then most players do in their whole career

But no use living in the past. We better not give him up for a rental though.

this is why its hard to have a favorite baseball team.

there is no fukking loyalty in baseball anymore.

its discusting . A guy wins a world series for a team and then they want to trade him a few years later...

    complete bullshit

GM's gotta use their heads not their hearts and make moves based on keeping their jobs and a winning a product on the field

I'm sure quite a bit of the younger fan base cried many a tear after the Cards didn't up their 10 year 200+ million dollar contract to match the Angel's offer.

but how bad of a decision would that have been?

    gotta be smart these days

BigBear. Its more of a business then ever these days, huh

Chi , I was happy as hell when they did not offer that contract to Poo-holes

Did I think he would decline so quickly in talent and production.

    No.

But I knew he wasnt worth risking the organization's livelihood for the next 10 years

praying every tendon and bone in his body stays healthy.

But understand what you are gettin at with the decision making thing .

If a GM made all their decisions from a fans perspective, then they would not have that job for too long

sent to the Angels for Bourjas

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10...s-david-freeseThe St. Louis Cardinals have sent third baseman and former World Series MVP David Freese to the Los Angeles Angels for outfielder Peter Bourjos as part of a four-player trade, the teams confirmed Friday.[+] EnlargeRichard Mackson,USA TODAYThird baseman David Freese, who hit only nine home runs last season for the Cardinals, has been traded to the Los Angeles Angels.

In addition to Freese, the Angels will receive relieverFernando Salas. The Cardinals will receive outfield prospectRandal Grichuk.
Freese, a hero in St. Louis' 2011 World Series run, fell off markedly this past season. After hitting .293 with 20 home runs and making the National League All-Star team in 2012, he batted .262 with nine homers in 2013.
Freese's OPS dropped from .839 to .721, and he hit only .179 (10-for-56) in the playoffs. Freese fills the third-base void in Anaheim that was created when the Angels tradedAlberto Callaspo to Oakland in July.
Even if Freese fails to regain his 2012 All-Star form, he still appears to be a significant upgrade at third base for the Angels. Manager Mike Scioscia used seven players at that position last season, with Callaspo, Chris Nelson, Luis Jimenez and Andrew Romine logging the bulk of the at-bats.
Overall, Angels third basemen ranked 27th in the majors with an aggregate .637 OPS, and they hit only eight home runs. Only Miami, with a total of three homers, got less power out of the third-base spot.
Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto has made upgrading the pitching staff a prime focus of his offseason activity. The Angels are hoping that Salas, who has 186 strikeouts in 192 1/3 big league innings, can help improve a bullpen that went 20-27 with a 4.12 ERA.

Keith Law explains why the Cardinals did a little better in the Peter Bourjos-David Freese trade. Blog

Bourjos, a superb defender in center field, is a strong candidate to take over the position from Jon Jay in St. Louis. With Freese gone, the Cardinals could slide Matt Carpenter to third base and play prospect Kolten Wong at second.
Grichuk was selected with the 24th overall pick by the Angels in the 2009 draft -- one spot ahead ofMike Trout.

Does it get any worse than this POS?

Seriously, someone find me a worse everyday player than Freese.

This guy not only sucks in the field, he has to be the worse hitter in baseball.

His OPS right now is .422
