The Future of Sports and Sports Betting

we live in good times guys. technology is getting better and better, quicker and quicker. already in my short life so far ive experienced it going from being a big deal when your household got its first computer to now where everyone has multiple computers; cellphone, laptop, ipad, etc. and usually one at their fingertips at all times. were moving towards times where technology not only interacts with us, but is part of us. how do you think this will change the way sports are played? will there be quarterbacks with bionic arms capable of throwing 100yrds? will basketball players have microchips implanted that analyze trajectory allowing them to hit 90% all of the time? there is already examples of the merging between technology and athletes; Oscar Pistorius Blade Runner. will the current athletic commissions fight against these enhancements like they do with performance enhancing drungs, possibly creating bionic only leagues? what will happen to sports betting when human error is replaced with infallible technology?

not only will technology change things for the athlete, but also for the gambler. in the begging knowledgeable guys got together and came up with a line. then computers came along. knowledgeable guys got together used computers and were able to come out with more lines at better efficiencies. what happens when the computers no longer need the knowledgeable guys? will this be the death of sports betting? if everyone had the ability to use a computer that is self taught, 1000's of times smarter than a human, and focused in on a particular sport or team. why would the books want to take action against what this god like machine is saying is going to happen? perhaps we see a rise in rigged events. one factor that computers wont be able to determine is ulterior motives from the athletes. the numbers all say hes gonna win but the athlete isnt ruled by the numbers, he does what he wants to do.

all in all its going to be interesting and exciting to see how this pastime/job of sports and sports betting evolves along with technology. theres going to be opportunities for alot of money to be made on both sides, the books and the gamblers. the question is will the books be able to hold an edge? what are your thoughts?

You have valid points here. I think eventually sports betting and casino wagering online will be legal in the US. It will be reasons of tax revenue. The bookies will still be in business because there is some that still not have a computer at all.

Very interesting 2nd video. It's really crazy how technology is evolving over say just the last 25 years how we've gone from those huge cell phones to what we have now. We're nearing the age where people are beginning to get scared. What happens when we build artificial intelligence that is much smarter than us that then has the ability to recreate itself?

In terms of sports i dont think technology will impact the NBA game itself. I mean how has technology impacted our current game besides a backlight on the backboard? From a sports betting market yes if he have computers that can analyze and backdate all this info that would take months and year to do for a human that would be something. However, one would have to continually answer why? And for your average sports bettor they still don't have a clue.

Very interesting read though. I believe when I was in 5th grade in about 2000. I was reading a scholastic magazine that showed a computer that looked flat that was as big as your standard coffee table( the computer looked like a huge tablet). And you were able to just touch devices together to exchange data. Isnt this exactly what we have today. They also featured a phone that you can see the person you were talking too. We were all like yea right. Funny how times change.

ya its crazy that we have reached a point where the sci-fi of our childhood is the reality of our adult life. its going to be interesting to see the development and integration of cognitive computing. i think its going to affect all kinds of markets, sports predicting just being one of the many. hopefully it will boost the market somewhat in the same way that the introduction of in game live betting and mobile betting has. give technology enough time tho and i dont see how we wont end up at a stage where computers are able to predict winners at a rate that makes bookies not want to take action anymore.

i hope it follows the path of weed. they have alot of similarities when it comes to legislation. both originally outlawed because they are "bad for you" but when the government needs money they all of a sudden arent as concerned about keeping you from "harming your self"
