I hope this would mean accepting sports wagers and having on-line poker, rather then play rigged casino games on-line like BJ, roulette, etc.

I'm very surprised to see even speculation that they would be allowed to accept bets from other states & countries, as this is a clear violation of the Wire Act. I'm not real sure how accurate that part is.

However, from what I understand, NJ is attempting to challenge the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, which is a Federal bill. If they were to succeed in getting it declared unconstitutional, that would in essence allow all 50 states to opt in and allow sports betting to its local residents, just as Nevada does now.

After reading this again, it appears as if this is a new bill just introduced, so perhaps they are also attempting to challenge the Wire Act.

Never is a long time. If the NFL ever feels like regulated sports gambling will ever put more money in their pocket, and not threaten their popularity due to a fix scandal, it will be legalized in weeks. Being as greedy as they are, they will either have exclusivity on it, or will force licensees to fork over a big chunk.

Trust me, eventually, when 25% of their league are convicted felons, when families no longer want to shell out $500 for 4 tickets, when sky boxes are not sold out, and when revenues start lacking because of fading interest, they'll change their tune real fast. May not happen for decades, but if my eternal soul could collect on a wager, I'd make a big one that we'll have legalized and league endorsed sports internet gambling sometime in the next 30 years.

Look at the numbers racket. Publicized by Dewey and others as a poison and unscrupulous theft of the working people to eventually becoming "a dollar and a dream" state endorsed game with pretty scratch off cards and bouncing balls that helps "fund the education of our youth." It's all about the money.

An Internet gambling bill approved by a New Jersey Senate committee Tuesday would let Atlantic City casinos take bets from gamblers in other states and even other countries, as long as federal and state authorities agree it’s legal.

Bolded key part of article... No way this happens (at least for sports betting) without major changes...

doesnt mean they CAN'T have one. If NJ is allowed to take bets based on a federal ruling then all states would have the ability to also do it.

States are generally allowed to 'govern' themselves but not when it contradicts a written FEDERAL law. Similar to marijauna sales in California and other states that allow it. it is still illegal federally. Just a question of whether the feds would want to prosecute. They cant really do anything to the states but take funding away from them, but if the states make more money than the funding they lose then they bite the bullet.

But there has been a long on going battle between the federal government and states as it pertains to the 10th Amendment. The fed govt continually over steps its bounds, and states have been fighting to at least make an appearance that they are looking to get back to the way it was intended.

it all depends on the money, any state can pass any law they want. But feds can still enforce it on their level if the state wont. States cant protect their citizens only themselves. A bunch of states have passed so called sovereignty resolutions but they have no lawful backing, just a stance that those states have people willing to stand up to the fed govt at a state level.

NJ can do anything they want if their state passes the law. But if they go ahead and start the process then you might see GAMBLERS and not just the bookies start getting arrested and charged on a federal level. US govt could also sue any company that was taking bets.

If you want to see what happens if NJ goes ahead and starts a sportsbetting operation either with in their own state or on the internet/over the phone go see what the US govt has done to guys out here in California that sell and also use 'medical' marijauna.

Why would legalized gambling in this country be a bad thing? If it's Government run and their Lines are horrible you could still play offshore. However, if their were hundreds of different places you could play at and they actually had to compete against each other then the Lines would be great. Maybe I'm missing something here... which is quite likely. What am I missing?

yeah it's kinda pathetic that nj will be the first state to have igaming. california should be the first since we can actually sustain a thriving business but these goddamn greedy indian casino bastards fear they will lose losers going to their smokey ass casinos. i supported indian casino bills back in the 90s but i wish none of them exists now...
