    Winnipeg Sells 13K Season Tickets

    in 17 minutes.

Looks like the fans are excited for hockey.

I think their new arena holds like 16K fans, tough ticket to come by.

must be heartwarming for those friendly canadiens getting a team back with their lovely little lives and fireplaces, snowmobiles and ski trips. but sometimes old nana gets cancer and dies at 73 oh no what "troubling challenging times" for those canadiens then. but they will be all smiles at the hockey game that weekend

I agree SS, the way Winnipeg got hosed the first time around wasn't the fans fault

Not a big hockey fan but glad to see them get a team back and have good fan support. NHL does not really belong in the south anyways.

Only teams that win get the fan support in the south. Carolina, Dallas and TB have all won Cups and still continue to get the support from the fans and cities when it comes time to talk about arenas and such.

Florida and Atlanta have been not-so-good for a while, hence losing all support.

I was telling someone that they'd have no trouble selling tickets and that person didn't believe me.

We used to drive 7hrs to go watch Jets games at least a couple of times a year. It's the largest Canadian city to my hometown and the largest one in quite a big area. After losing the team and getting it back, there's no way they'll let it die again.

The concern people have about the Winnipeg market is the same one they have had for years. The city itself is still a pretty big shit hole compared to most urban centres in Canada.
Manitoba is doing ok right now because of the commodity bubble.. but that can always go up and down.
The only real change that allowed for a move here was the Canadian Dollar.
Big difference from .60 cents in the mid 90s to $1.05 with the USD right now.

And Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton were all about to fold up shop in the late 90s with such a poor Canadian Dollar. Even though they could sell out each game as well.
That is the only thing that matters for Canadian teams aside from Toronto and Vancouver probably.

Fans in Winnipeg waited 15 years to get an NHL team back, so when tickets went on sale, they apparently weren’t in the mood to wait any longer.

Season tickets for the city’s new National Hockey League franchise sold out just 17 minutes after sales had opened to the public Saturday.

In total, True North Sports and Entertainment’s ‘Drive to 13,000’ season-ticket campaign lasted less than 72 hours.

The pre-sale set aside exclusively for standing ticket holders for the city’s AHL team, the Manitoba Moose, as well as for corporate sponsors reached 7,158 by Friday. The remaining 5,842 commitments were quickly gobbled up after the online window opened Saturday.

“While I had no doubt the ’Drive to 13,000’ would reach its destination, the remarkable speed at which it got there certifies the fans’ hunger for NHL hockey and their commitment to True North’s initiatives,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said in an email.

By shortly mid-afternoon, the ticket waiting list — for those who didn’t manage to get their seats early enough but who were still interested in doing so in the future — had been capped at 8,000 people.

how can you have an option on another 4 when they are sold out? Or do you mean the option to renew after the 3/5 yrs expire?

Eeeeekk!! $64/tix to watch the "Atlanta Thrashers"

Going to be a few years before Winnipeg is competitive. They'll be playing in the EC Southeast against the Caps and Lightning next year.

In Carolina when I went to see the Maple Leafs play there was more Leaf fans in the joint than Carolina fans. Easier for most to drive 1300 K to see a hockey game than get seats here.

That's funny because Dallas loves the stars and outside of the stupid owners in Phoenix they sell out on a regular basis. I know this because I lived there for 2 years. Now lets talk about San Jose, LA, and Anaheim their fans are die hard and have created a very strong in-state Rivalry that is well known. Now lets talk about Nashville, The Panthers, and Tampa Bay all very well supported teams. So to say that hockey dose not belong in the south that is stupid, I think what you meant to say was hockey dose not belong in Atlanta since this is the second team they have lost into Canada. Just thought I would put my 2 cents in.
