The Green Bay Packers are a non-profit, community owned team

A city of only about 100k people. The smallest NFL team that's non-profit, community organized just won the Super Bowl. Awesome.

    Did anyone else know this?

Yup, I knew it. My brother-in-law is from Green Bay, and he told me that all residents also get a dividend check.

yep I like the team, and the fact the upper management did not put up with Favres antics and gave Rodgers his chance after being a backup since 2005. I was very impressed a few years ago when he came of the bench after Favre got hurt and nearly got the victory after being down at least 2 scores

and Alex Smith was picked 23 picks prior

    I hear this a lot.....but I really don't believe it.

I'm not convinced you could just buy some stock 20 years ago. Its not like they weren't popular in the early 90's. For that matter...the NFL was already a monster by then.

I'm going to need proof of this.....or I say you're lying.

stock in the packers is about as meaningful as the points on "whose line is it anyway".

    none.

the stock sales were in 1923 1950 and 1997 (for the remodel project) so it was actually 14 years ago

and i have no idea why anyone would buy stock that they can never sell for a profit or receive a dividend on

people got suckered in to it, thinking that they "own" part of the packers, if i own something i should be able to sell it

Very much a socialist deal that Obama would be proud of like turning GM into a communist state run company.Well, most sports teams these days are socialist where they rely on public tax payer funding to support inflated players and coaches salaries and the inflated egos of the team owners who need a hobbie of owning a team. Then they have eminent domain rights where they can mow down blocks of new homes and businesses to put their publicly funded stadiums and arenas.

I live 60 miles away from Wisconsin and go there alot.A few years back when Lambeau Field was renovated, the state put a tax on all fast food.etc.to raise money for the renovation.Never mind that Green Bay could be located 300 miles away, you still pay the tax. Then to ad insult to injury, only union contractors could bid on renovation work at Lambeau which drove the cost up.So a non union construction firm owner was discriminated against by being forbidden to partake in the renovation but he still has to pay the tax when he eats fast food. That's taxation without representation and unconstitutional. As the Beetles sang Back in the U.S.S.R,we in america are there baby!!!!!!!!!!!Socialism is wonderful if you are on the receiving end ot it.Not so wonderful if you are having it open a can of whoopass on you though.Do you hear that Obama people?

I have a cousin that's a Packer nut. He's a retired coach-teacher and he would sacrifice his family for the Packers. He even bought a share of that bogus non redeemable for squat public offering shares a few years back.I want to poke fun about it to him and call him a rube but he takes this crap so seriously he would probably kill me over it.

Here is what I say about the NFL.If rich owners want a hobbie of owning a team, sell real shares and run the team as a business. No tax dollars building them a stadium or arena.Have the owner build his place and bitch that his taxes are too high and I would agree with him 100%.Get back to the free market where nobody gets free government tax money and it will open a level playing field up for everyone.Shrink the size of government and it's workforce dramatically. If that took place where the teams would then run like a true free market business,a player making 10 million a year would probably make his true value of 4 million a year but his taxes would be much less.

its really kinda dumb for the stock owners, you get a piece of paper to say you are part owner.

    Brilliant move by the team.

I used to have Stock in the Celtics in the 80's and 90's and I actually got dividends at least

the point is though. that out of all the american sports leagues, Green Bay is pretty unique in many ways. And wouldn't it be nice to have the kind of parity year to year that the NFL demonstrates in the MLB, NBA, and NHL? and have super small market teams actually compete?

Lol. You can't buy stock anymore, at least, not at the moment, and not for the last 13 years or so.

I also own stock in the Packers, and am a season ticket holder. Owning stock is a great thing for me, as a Packer's fan. It may not get you dividends at all, but it does get you access to the shareholders meetings, and we do get to vote on things, and get private Q and As with the upper most management of the team. On top of that, it's cool having the piece of paper on my wall, and my buddies are quite jealous they didn't take advantage of the opportunity themselves. Anyone who thinks it's dumb, it just goes to show you why Green Bay fans are the best in the country.

Go Pack. I'm elated and on cloud 9 with the hard fought Super Bowl victory, and the fact that the 50,000 ticket allotment the team was offering for the celebration party (not the parade), sold out in a matter of a couple hours. This means a lot to this team, and the city, and the entire fan base, around the world.

I'm happy most of you don't get it, that's what makes being a Green Bay Packer fan so special, and it's why the team is so successful in such a small city.

The Lombardi Trophy has come home, and it feels amazing.

It's symbolism, coupled with access to special events.
