Monday Night Football would not have been as big a staple in the 70's if it wasn't for Howard Cosell. He brought NFL broadcasting from Point A to Point B with his "tell it like it is" style. Dandy Don was great, but he wouldn't have been as popular as he was without Cosell wearing the black hat, while Dandy wore the white one. I believe football would have eventually been popular on Monday nights anyway, but Cosell jump started the process.
