NFL Player News - Week of 6/20/16

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

IND - WR WR Donte Moncrief should be a 'full go' by training camp
    Source: Kevin Bowen - Colts.com

Indianapolis Colts WR Donte Moncrief is expected to be a 'full go' by the start of training camp according to Colts.com writer Kevin Bowen.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Only a couple of days ago we learned that Moncrief was back to running routes as he continues to recover from toe surgery. With QB Andrew Luck back and healthy, we're super excited about the Colts' passing game. Barring injury, Moncrief could have better numbers this season. We could see him eclipse 100 targets again and have 70 or more catches. His current ADP is WR35 (7.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

GB - TE TE Jared Cook not ready by training camp?

    Source: Pete Dougherty - PackersNews.com

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook is currently recovering from foot surgery he had in June, and according to PackersNews.com writer Pete Dougherty this could be the team's biggest concern heading into camp. There is no word about Cook's status for the start of training camp, but there is some speculation that he may not be ready by late July.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's a bit of mystery surrounding this situation, and fantasy owners need to proceed with caution. Earlier this month, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said "Jared Cook, we have no long-term concern with his situation. It will be good to have him back." That may just be coach-speak, so make sure to monitor his status in training camp before getting too excited for Cook as a sleeper at TE. He's always had tremendous natural potential but has never truly played up to that potential in the pros.

LA - Prepared to be without RB Tre Mason

Source: Jack Wang - Los Angeles Daily News

The Los Angeles Rams are prepared to be without third-year RB Tre Mason according to Los Angeles Daily News writer Jack Wang. Head coach Jeff Fisher said at a recent minicamp that the team had to “prepare ourselves that Tre’s not going to be here.” Mason has missed all offseason workouts since his March arrest on drug and traffic charges.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Aside from superstar starter Todd Gurley and Mason, the Rams have no other drafted back on the roster. Benny Cunningham, Aaron Green, Malcolm Brown, Chase Reynolds, and Trey Watts were all college free agents. Behind the workhorse Gurley, Cunningham should be at the top of the depth chart. However, 2015 UDFA Malcolm Brown is a player we have an appreciation for. Brown can wear down defenses and at 225 pounds he's tough to bring down with a head of steam. Dynasty owners should be monitoring these backs to see how things shake out.

TEN - QB QB Marcus Mariota struggling with vertical routes

Source: Joe Rexrode - The Tennessean

Second-year quarterback Marcus Mariota has (by his own admission) been struggling with vertical throws according to The Tennessean's Joe Rexrode. During the team's recent minicamp, Mariota was overthrowing his targets at times when going deep.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Everyone should be excited by Mariota's potential, but smart fans and fantasy owners will realize that he's a work in progress. Any sort of major strides to his game may be a year or two away. According to this report, Mariota likes to gamble a bit too much throwing over the middle and his pass-placement on back-shoulder throws needs improvement. We love Mariota's upside, but right now can only recommend him as a mid-range QB2. Mariota has a current ADP of QB16 (10.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BAL - Rookie RB Kenneth Dixon impresses with quickness

    Source: John Eisenberg - BaltimoreRavens.com

Baltimore Ravens rookie running back Kenneth Dixon, a fourth-round pick this year, may have the quickest feet on the team according to BaltimoreRavens.com writer John Eisenberg.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dixon's quickness is a thing to behold, although he's so quick that sometimes he'll trip himself up when making multiple moves in the open field. He's a rookie RB we like a lot in dynasty leagues. Dixon is going to compete for a spot behind starter Justin Forsett in 2016. He's competing with players like Javorius Allen, Lorenzo Taliaferro, Trent Richardson, and Terrance West for a spot. We feel Dixon could be the primary backup behind Forsett as soon as this year, and he's got starter's upside for the future.

CAR - CB Bene Benwikere should be ready

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers CB Bene Benwikere (ankle) should be ready for the start of training camp and will not be limited, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers need all the help they can get in the secondary after parting ways with former franchise-tagged CB Josh Norman. Benwikere suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the Panthers' Week 14 win over the Atlanta Falcons. He missed the team's run to the Super Bowl, but now it looks like he'll be near full strength when training camp gets here at the end of July.

IND - RB Frank Gore wants 1,000 yards

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Phillip B. Wilson

Indianapolis Colts RB Frank Gore is eyeing the 1,000-yard mark in 2016 at 33 years old. Gore is more determined this year after just missing 1,000 rushing yards last season at 967 yards. 'I just have to start taking care of my body, eating healthy, start training to get myself ready and to try to go get it,' Gore said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts improved their offensive line this offseason for two reasons. First (and most importantly), the team needed to protect QB Andrew Luck much better in 2016. Second, the team wants to run the ball more effectively. They haven't had a 1,000-yard rusher since 2007, but Gore has a chance to eclipse that mark if he stays healthy. Gore was only 33 yards short of 1,000 in 2015, but a better offensive line (and a healthy Luck) could help him improve the 3.7 yards-per-carry average he had last season.

CAR - Carolina only choice for CB Charles Tillman

Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune - Christopher Dabe

Free-agent CB Charles Tillman (Panthers) only wants to play for the Carolina Panthers once he's fully recovered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers were 15-1 in the regular season with Tillman before an ACL tear in Week 17 put him out for the playoffs and Super Bowl. After parting ways with former franchise-tagged player Josh Norman, the Panthers have collected CBs to find talent. They drafted three CBs in the 2016 NFL draft and they may have interest in the 35-year old veteran if they feel a boost is needed.

    OAK - Shilique Calhoun signed

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

The Oakland Raiders have signed LB Shilique Calhoun, their third-round selection in the 2016 NFL draft, to a four-year contract.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love the upside that Calhoun has as a pass-rusher. Over the last three years at Michigan State, Calhoun had an outstanding 128 quarterback pressures and 26.5 sacks. He is expected to serve as a backup to LB Bruce Irvin as a rookie, but Calhoun has the ability to be an impact starter someday for the Raiders defense.

    Tuesday Update

NFL - RB Arian Foster expects to be ready Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Free-agent RB Arian Foster (Texans) anticipates being healthy enough to participate in training camp, according to a source. Foster is eager to regain his 2012 form, but he has not been signed yet despite at least three teams having had interest in him.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Dolphins, Patriots and Seahawks could be the three teams most interested in Foster. He's supposedly able to pass a physical right now, but Foster may not be able to get on a new team until training camp hits. Wherever he goes, Foster will be a player fantasy owners need to monitor as he could still be an effective starter if healthy.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas fell behind last year

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas said he was thinking too much last season. Thomas missed a good portion of the 2015 offseason program while waiting for a long-term deal and his mother was set to be released from prison. Thomas said it was tough trying to catch up with the new offense after missing so much time and with his off-field life.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas was the team's franchise player last year and it took right until the July 15th deadline to get him signed. He's in year two of the Gary Kubiak system, but in this balanced (leaning towards run-heavy) system we see Thomas as a WR2 for fantasy owners.

SEA - Change in offense aided QB Russell Wilson

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson threw 24 touchdowns and one interception in the last seven games after the offense shifted to emphasize quicker passes, timing routes and spread formations. He was sacked 31 times in the first seven games and just 15 times in the last nine games as getting rid of the ball quickly helped negate struggles on the offensive line. Head coach Pete Carroll said to expect more of that in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to take note here. Wilson has been a top-5 fantasy QB each of the last two years, and he's been a top-12 fantasy QB every year he's been in the league. With more emphasis on shorter passes and guys like Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett catching passes, Wilson has a shot to finish as the best fantasy QB in 2016.

HOU - Tyler Ervin should be ready for camp

    Source: ESPN.com - Tania Ganguli

Houston Texans RB Tyler Ervin (quadriceps) missed some time this offseason because of a quadriceps injury but should be ready for the start of training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ervin has incredible speed, quickness and agility. He's able to change direction without losing much speed, and Ervin is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. The rookie is going to compete to be a change-of-pace back behind starter Lamar Miller.

IND - Head coach praises Josh Ferguson

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Indianapolis Colts RB Josh Ferguson is a man of many talents, according to head coach Chuck Pagano. 'He's smart. He picks things up in a hurry. He's very, very athletic,' Pagano said. 'He's a great receiver out of the backfield. We can split him wide, we can displace him formationally. He's a mismatch out in space. He's got juice. He can go. He's got great vision.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ferguson is a lightning quick rusher who can work well as a receiver out of the backfield. The rookie from Illinois could work his way up the depth chart behind starter Frank Gore. Make sure to add Ferguson--or at least monitor him--in deep dynasty leagues.

GB - WR Jared Abbrederis impressing

    Source: ESPN.com - Jason Wilde

Green Bay Packers WR Jared Abbrederis showed exemplary route-running this offseason, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy also praised the receiver's coverage recognition, breaking points and weight loss as high points. 'He plays the position technically and fundamentally at a very high level,' McCarthy added.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Packers are looking for a WR3 behind starters Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. Abbrederis may be separating himself from the rest of the pack including guys like Ty Montgomery, Davante Adams and Jeff Janis. We'll be watching to see how this competition unfolds in training camp.

BAL - TE Dennis Pitta can still contribute

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has looked good, is moving well and is still capable of being a significant contributor, in the opinion of The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'd like to believe that is possible, but the Ravens are stacked at the position and there may not be a role for Pitta if he's able to make the team. Ben Watson was added in free agency, and he should be the leader at TE in 2016. Second-year pro Maxx Williams will also start to play a larger role this year.

DET - WR Andre Roberts will be moved around

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions WR Andre Roberts said he will be used as an outside receiver as well as a slot receiver during the preseason. He may also receive a chance to compete for the punt returner job.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions must not have been happy with some of the reserve WRs in place as they signed Roberts recently. He's a speedy veteran who doesn't have much fantasy value--even if he is involved as a return man. We see the Lions peppering WRs Golden Tate and Marvin Jones as much as possible. There's talk about using TE Eric Ebron more as a receiver and RB Theo Riddick could catch 60 or so passes. That doesn't leave a lot for Roberts (or any other receiver).

DEN - Devontae Booker to push for RB2

    Source: DenverBroncos.com - Andrew Mason
Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (knee) ran well after he recovered from a torn meniscus and appears poised to push RB Ronnie Hillman and Kapri Bibbs for the No. 2 running back job.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Booker is a talented all-purpose back. He can make his living between the tackles, is tough to bring down with arm tackles and he's a fantastic receiver out of the backfield. The Broncos are unlikely to use a RBBC this year with C.J. Anderson getting a contract that makes him the third-highest paid RB in 2016. Booker has starter's upside, but fantasy owners should consider him a three-down-back-in-waiting to begin the season. With Anderson's injury history, Booker is a nice handcuff. Ronnie Hillman led the team in rushing last year, but they let him hit the free agent market where he got very little interest. The Broncos brought back Hillman, but only after they paid C.J. Anderson with a much larger deal. Hillman has speed, but in the postseason it was Anderson who led the league in rushing. Anderson should be the team's bellcow, and Hillman will be the mix for backup with Booker and Bibbs.

NYJ - WR Brandon Marshall trying to shed weight

Source: New York Daily News - Seth Marshall

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall
will ideally play at 230 pounds throughout the 2016 season, if head
coach Todd Bowles has his way. Marshall said he's played at an average
of 234 pounds to 235 pounds the last five seasons.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Five pounds shouldn't make that much difference in his play, but
perhaps he'll feel better and be able to bounce back after games
quicker. The QB situation is looking like it's going to be Geno Smith,
but we still think Marshall is a high-end WR2 for fantasy owners. And we
know how fast negotiations can happen so we're not giving up on
Fitzpatrick. Marshall's ADP has him currently WR13 (2.10) in 12-team PPR
    leagues.

DEN - OLB Von Miller talks are stagnant

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Denver Broncos LB Von Miller's long-term contract negotiations with
the Broncos have gone cold over the past 10 to 12 days, according to
ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler. The two sides still have sizeable gap
regarding guaranteed money. Fowler said Miller has supposedly explored
holding out until March, at which point he would become a non-exclusive
franchise player. Then, another team could offer a first-round pick and
    third-round pick for Miller.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's late June....and we'll be more optimistic about this situation
than others. The two sides have until July 15th to make Miller the
highest-paid defender in the NFL. Miller is entering his prime and the
Broncos defense is the best in the league....so long as Miller is
pressuring QBs on the outside. The math here is simple; pay the man!

BAL - QB Joe Flacco has mental hurdle

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

    Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco
(knee) doesn't have a problem with running or cutting or doing anything
physically in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Flacco's main test is facing the thoughts of getting hit again. 'I don't
expect to have those kinds of thoughts linger in my head,' Flacco said.
'But you never know until you get out there and do it again.' Flacco is
expected to be ready to go for training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll all be watching to see how Flacco responds under pressure...and
especially after he gets hit. He's cool under fire, and Flacco only has
to overcome the mental part of his recovery. When he takes a hit and
the knee feels okay, Flacco will be the QB he's used to being. Fantasy
owners should consider him a low-end QB2. His current ADP is QB25
    (14.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

KC - S Eric Berry could land big deal

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Kansas City Chiefs SS Eric Berry has a reasonable chance to become
the highest-paid safety and top Minnesota Vikings FS Harrison Smith's
    $51.25 million deal.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things have been a bit quiet on the Berry front. The two sides have
until July 15th to work out a new long-term deal. Berry fought back from
cancer and can continue to be an impact player for the Chiefs. His deal
should start in the neighborhood of Harrison Smith's contract. We'll
know more about the likelihood of a new deal for Berry when the deadline
    gets much closer.

CHI - WR Alshon Jeffery makes progress on deal

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery has continued to talk about a long-term contract, and a new deal is possible for the receiver, who received the franchise tag.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jeffery showed faith by signing his franchise tender already. He
doesn't have much leverage, but signs now indicate he may get the
long-term deal he wants. We imagine his contract will look similar to
what both Demaryius Thomas (Broncos) and Dez Bryant (Cowboys) received
last year as franchise-tagged star WRs.

    8. GB - QB Brett Hundley has bright future

    Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Green Bay Packers QB Brett Hundley has the potential to be a 'solid
starter' in the National Football League, according to quarterbacks
coach Alex Van Pelt. He has drawn praise within the organization for his
    competitiveness.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hundley is athletic and can keep plays alive with his feet while
keeping his eyes downfield. We're excited about him in dynasty leagues
because of his physical potential. However, Hundley needs to prove that
he can make plays from the pocket. He needs to throw with better
anticipation and develop a better internal clock to feel the pass rush.

SF - SF wideout jobs are wide open

    Source: ESPN.com - Michael Wagaman

San Francisco 49ers WRs Bruce Ellington, Quinton Patton and Jerome Simpson are in the mix for the starting job opposite WR Torrey Smith. WR Dres Anderson isn't expected to be consistent enough to shoulder the load, but he is also in the battle. WR DeAndrew White has plenty of size, but he is considered closer to the roster bubble than he is to being a regular contributor.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a spot not many fantasy owners should be looking at. Only
those in the deepest of deep leagues should be thinking about a second
WR from the 49ers in 2016. Even Smith is a deeper option, sitting at
    WR54 (11.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

SF - Two RBs looking to move up order

    Source: ESPN.com - Michael Wagaman

San Francisco 49ers RB DuJuan Harris
saw extended reps in the offseason, and he and RB Kelvin Taylor will be
looking to move up the depth chart. Currently Harris and Taylor are
behind RBs Carlos Hyde and Shaun Draughn in the pecking order.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Harris is a good all-purpose back, but injuries and inconsistencies
have plagued his pro career. Taylor, son of former Jaguars star RB Fred
Taylor, is a tough player who is willing to run between the tackles. The
rookie never fumbled in his college career at Florida but needs to show
better patience and anticipation of cut-back lanes if he wants to play
up to his potential as a pro.

SF - RB Carlos Hyde sits atop depth chart

    Source: ESPN.com - Michael Wagaman

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde is expected to keep the top spot in the backfield as long as he can stay healthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Volume and number of snaps is the name of the game with Chip Kelly.
Hyde is going to be the lead back in a Kelly system that is going to run
as many plays as possible. The inside/outside zone-read option could be
good for Hyde. A disappointing fantasy player, Hyde could put up RB2
numbers this season. His current ADP is RB18 (4.07) in 12-team PPR
    leagues.

BUF - RB Karlos Williams has gained weight

Source: The Buffalo News - Tyler Dunne

    Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams
was carrying extra weight during minicamp, and said he ate so his
pregnant fiancé wouldn't feel bad. He has plenty of time to get into
shape, but he'll need to be in top form to hold off hungry RBs Mike Gillislee, James Wilder Jr. and Jonathan Williams.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

So it wasn't the devil that made him do it, but instead devil's food
cake? Williams needs to get in shape and prove that he's the best backup
option behind LeSean McCoy. We love rookie RB Jonathan Williams, and he
may end up being the better option...especially if Karlos Williams
can't stay in shape and stay healthy.

    15. BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor has high expectations

Source: The Buffalo News - Tyler Dunne

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor feels he will restore a winning tradition in Buffalo, and he feels he can do exactly what Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton
did last season. 'I am 100 percent confident that I can do that. Cam
played very well and willed his team. He took his team to the game that
everyone who plays this game wants to get to. I commend him for that. We
came in the same year so I definitely kept up with him. We became
friends throughout our time in the league. Yes, I am 100 percent
confident I can do the things that he did,' Taylor said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor does not lack for confidence--or for skill as a passer and
runner. He's super quick and fast when running the ball, but we loved
what he showed as a passer. Taylor shows incredible deep touch when
attacking a defense vertically. His rushing ability makes him an
attractive fantasy option. He's a QB2 with the upside to rank as a
top-15 fantasy QB in 2016...even in the Bills run-heavy offense.

    Thursday Update

TEN - RB DeMarco Murray in better situation Source: CBS Sports - Jim Rome

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray believes Tennessee's offensive system is a better fit for him than the Philadelphia Eagles' offense. 'It's strictly downhill and that's what I've been accustomed to my entire life,' Murray said. 'Nothing against last year or what happened, it just didn't work out, but I'm very excited about this upcoming season.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Murray was flummoxed by a Philadelphia running game that asked for more first step burst from him. A downhill running game does suit him, but it could limit the amount of read option calls for Marcus Mariota, because that requires the running back to take the carry from a standstill instead of with a head of steam. Derrick Henry will also do best in a downhill system, so while this enhances Murray, it also gives Henry a good chance to outplay him or at least be the hotter hand at times.

Source: WGR Sports Radio 550 - Sal Capaccio

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor and the Bills are both open to an in-season extension, according to a source. Talks have been ongoing through the offseason, but an extension is not expected before the season starts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills know Taylor can demand at least 10-12 million a year as a starting quarterback, and they need to see that he can stay healthy and effective over more than one season before committing that. It's a smart move from a money standpoint, but every game that Taylor plays well will increase what he is due on his next contract. This can only help him for fantasy, where he is going as a backup quarterback, but one that can score in the top 7-10 in any given week because of his running ability.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan working on feet

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Kelsey Conway

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan has been working on increasing his comfort level with the offense this offseason. Ryan has worked in front of a mirror to try to get his feet in the right position to be able to throw the ball the way he wants to and to improve the timing of the play. He is able to watch his feet closely this way and can make sure everything is aligned correctly before dropping back.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ryan had one of the worst years of his career in 2015, and he is going to have to rely on Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman again to power the passing game unless Mohamed Sanu is a lot better than advertised. Ryan is no longer among the QB1 or even upper QB2 ranks and he is not worth drafting in the top 15-18 quarterbacks this year.

SEA - QB Russell Wilson has made strides

    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson has made a clear step ahead this offseason, according to head coach Pete Carroll. 'His command is all-time. His ability to move defenders with his eyes to set up some things, he's consistently doing that, almost unconsciously, he's so clued in,' Carroll said. 'We saw him throw the ball all over the field throughout the offseason and he's been strong and accurate and really precise about stuff. He has had a great offseason.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson was arguably a league winner in the second half of the season last year after a slow start to the campaign. While the Seahawks won't have a high volume pass offense, Wilson has shown the efficiency and running ability to be an elite fantasy quarterback without throwing even 500 passes in a season. He deserves to go in the top five fantasy quarterbacks this year.

KC - Receiver depth still unsettled

Source: Chiefs Digest - Herbie Swope

Kansas City Chiefs WRs Albert Wilson, Chris Conley, Rod Streater, De'Anthony Thomas and Tyreek Hill will all compete for playing time behind WR Jeremy Maclin. Head coach Andy Reid liked what he saw from Wilson and Conley during offseason workouts, though.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Travis Kelce is really the #2 receiver for the Chiefs, or perhaps 2B with Jamaal Charles as a 2A. The team could pass more with Justin Houston possibly sidelined for a good part of the season, but any wide receiver other than Maclin would only amount to the fourth option in a somewhat conservative passing game. Conley could be a deep threat and he's an athletic freak, so he's the one to watch in deep dynasty leagues.

BAL - Coach praises RB Terrance West

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Ryan Mink
Baltimore Ravens RB Terrance West looked quick and fast during organized team activities, according to head coach John Harbaugh, and Harbaugh also praised West's improvements without the ball in his hands.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

West seems to have salvaged his career in Baltimore after failed stops in Cleveland and Tennessee. He could make the team as their 4th back if he can beat out Lorenzo Taliaferro and Trent Richardson, who is sidelined with knee surgery. If the Ravens cut West, he should draw interest from another team.

NE - RB Donald Brown embracing opportunity

Source: The Providence Journal - Mark Daniels

New England Patriots RB Donald Brown led all running backs with 19 receptions in Patriots minicamp, and he is taking advantage of the opportunity to contribute in any way possible. His most likely path to a role is as the top backup to RB LeGarrette Blount. Brown is not considered a lock to make the team, according to Mark Daniels, of the Providence Journal. New England would carry a $300,000 salary cap charge if Brown is released.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown is the kind of versatile back the Patriots can make good use of, but they already have Dion Lewis and James White to play in the passing game, and Brown's strength is not as an inside runner. He might have to present something more compelling than Brandon Bolden's special teams ability to make the team, and that's only if the team doesn't sign Arian Foster later this summer. The team has been linked to Foster by multiple stories and they will likely take a look at him when he is back to full speed.

    10. NYJ - Christian Hackenberg not expected in '16

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg struggled with his accuracy in offseason workouts, and appeared methodical with his footwork while also making poor decisions. Beat writer Rich Cimini notes the rookie showed his arm strength, though, especially on deep balls. He needs to develop consistency. Hackenberg is not expected to play in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hackenberg is not ready to assume any kind of responsibility for this team, so they might have to carry four quarterbacks. 2015 fourth-round pick Bryce Petty is not ready to even be the backup, leaving Geno Smith as the only quarterback on the roster who can be trusted in game situations. Even if Ryan Fitzpatrick is signed as we expect, Smith will need to stay on as the backup.

CIN - WR Brandon LaFell feeling comfortable

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Jim Owczarski
Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell is feeling confident with QB Andy Dalton, and two continue to build rapport. 'I've been working with (Dalton) for a little over two months now so we've got the timing down and it's been showing in practice every day,' LaFell said Tuesday, June 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

LaFell could open the season as key target in the Bengals pass offense if Tyler Eifert isn't ready for Week 1 after offseason ankle surgery. He was a non-factor last year after a leg injury landed him on the PUP to begin the season, but LaFell was a strong producer in 2014 for New England. He might not be worth a draft pick, but keep LaFell on your early season waiver wire speed dial with all of the opportunity in the Bengals passing game.

    Friday Update

OAK - DeAndre Washington might shine Source: Bay Area News Group - Jimmy Durkin
Oakland Raiders RB DeAndre Washington spent some time with the first-team offense during the team's minicamp, although there has been nothing guaranteed about Washington's role going forward. Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave see Washington as a player who can do a little bit of everything, plus help out on special teams.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Raiders are not sold on Latavius Murray long-term, and maybe even short-term. Washington is a dynamic back with a lot of juice in his legs who could excel when the team spreads the field like his college offense did at Texas Tech. There is a chance that Washington pushes his way into a Giovani Bernard/Jeremy Hill arrangement with Murray this year, so take that into account when ranking Raiders backs.

MIA - Adam Gase pushing QB Ryan Tannehill

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has a new head coach in Adam Gase, and the man in charge is trying to extract more from his signal caller. Gase's approach - besides extremely detailed teaching - also includes pushing Tannehill to his limits but also giving him more freedom than he has ever had. 'I put a lot on (Tannehill's) plate. It's almost to the point where it's probably too much this fast. I want to see where the breaking point is. He's been doing a good job of responding,' Gase said last week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tannehill has a chance to take another step with a head coach that got great football out of Peyton Manning and Jay Cutler at much later junctures in their careers. Clyde Christensen is the offensive coordinator and also a quarterback-centric coach. The Dolphins don't have much proven in the running game, but they have a good array of targets and Tannehill. He is going outside of the top 15, and sometimes outside of the top 20, making Tannehill part of the deepest fantasy quarterback class we have ever seen.

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah to carry the load?

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah averaged 4.7 yards per carry in the second of last season, and beat writer Tim Twentyman believes Abdullah will be given the opportunity to be the lead back in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

"Lead back" for the Lions will still include Theo Riddick catching 70-80 passes out of the backfield and a downhill runner like Zach Zenner or Stevan Ridley handling some of the work between the tackles. Abdullah has upside as a seventh round pick, but it is still capped by the RBBC nature of his backfield.

    Source: SIRIUS NFL Radio

Free-agent RB Reggie Bush (49ers) has received calls from two teams, but he hasn't made a decision on where he'll play in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bush was a non-factor in 2015 and he has only appeared in 16 games over the last two seasons. He would have to land in a plum situation opened up by injury to even get on our radar this year.

OAK - RB Roy Helu expected to be ready for camp

Source: Bay Area News Group - Jimmy Durkin

Oakland Raiders RB Roy Helu (hip) did not participate in the team's offseason program as he recovered from offseason hip surgery, but head coach Jack Del Rio said Wednesday, June 22, that he expects Helu to be ready to go for training camp.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Helu will be fighting fifth-round pick DeAndre Washington for a receiving back role. While Helu has had his moments over the years, his inability to stay healthy has kept him from getting a long-term foothold in his backfield.

MIA - Leonte Carroo to shed weight
Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins WR Leonte Carroo made a favorable impressive on the coaching staff during the team's offseason program. He said Wednesday, June 22, that his first priority is losing weight. 'I'm 217 now, trying to get down to 210,' Carroo said. 'You become faster when you shed some pounds. I don't have any bad weight on me. That's what I was at the combine. Why not be as fast and explosive as I can be?'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Carroo is a rugged receiver with speed who could push Kenny Stills for playing time by the end of the season. DeVante Parker has had a history of foot issues, so Carroo could also see more playing time if Parker struggles to stay healthy. Keep him on your rookie redraft waiver wire watch list.

NO - WR Brandon Coleman has stiff competition

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman needs a strong training camp and preseason to secure his roster spot, as the team drafted a similar type of receiver in WR Michael Thomas.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Another beat writer predicted that Coleman would hold off Thomas and become the third wide receiver, but Thomas had a tremendous spring and riffed with Drew Brees from the word go, so Coleman might be unnecessary. If the Saints let him go, he should get interest from other teams, as Coleman's size/speed combination is hard to find, and "big slot" types are getting more use around the league.

NO - NOLA backup RB spots up for grabs

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints RBs Travaris Cadet, Daniel Lasco, Marcus Murphy are likely to jockey for the spots behind RBs Mark Ingram, Tim Hightower and C.J. Spiller. Murphy and Lasco benefit special teams, with Murphy as a return man and Lasco for coverage. Cadet might also crack the roster as a runner, receiver and return man, and the final spot might come down to Cadet and Murphy and who is hotter in training camp and the preseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Murphy has receiving ability and could vie for the role CJ Spiller has been lackluster in so far in New Orleans. Lasco is a SPARQ freak who has top-end athleticism, but an injury-marred 2015 caused him to drop in the draft. Cadet has the most experience in the offense and could be the most productive in a receiving role. It looks like Tim Hightower will be the handcuff to Mark Ingram no matter who wins this fourth running back spot.

    Saturday Update

TEN - WR Dorial Green-Beckham optimistic Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Dorial Green-Beckham said he is happy with how he performed during offseason workouts and expects to be more productive in 2016 because he is more comfortable.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green-Beckham continues to be one of the more polarizing players to evaluate. He has the talent but can he put all the tools together to deliver on the field. We like to see things like optimism here from offseason workouts but we want to see more of this and we want to see how it translates into training camp. Stay tuned.

DEN - OLB Von Miller talks dormant

    Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

Denver Broncos LB Von Miller hasn't had contract discussions with the team since early June, according to sources. Miller is under the team's control for 2016 via the franchise tag.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term deal under the CBA, but the team had set an earlier deadline to get the deal done that coincided with the negotiations coming to a halt. Denver could rekindle talks at the deadline, but if they can't finish a deal, Miller could hold out instead of playing under the 14.129 million franchise tag.

    5. WAS - QB Kirk Cousins talks going nowhere

    Source: SI.com - Albert Breer

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins has had discussions about a long-term deal over the last week, but talks continue to go nowhere. He's expected to play 2016 on the $19.95 million franchise tender.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington is smart to wait before committing what will likely be at least 40-50 million dollars guaranteed and a contract value over 100 million. Cousins' fantasy outlook is enhanced by the extra motivation to earn a life-changing contract. He is severely undervalued at an ADP of QB18.

TEN - RB Antonio Andrews responding well

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans RB Antonio Andrews has responded well to the added competition of RB DeMarco Murray and RB Derrick Henry, head coach Mike Mularkey said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Andrews powerful running style and low center of gravity makes him a useful back in an "exotic smashmouth" approach. While the Titans don't have the money or draft capital invested in him that they have in Demarco Murray and Derrick Henry, Andrews has momentum and a chip on his shoulder. We will hear from him again, but it might not be this year in Tennessee.

MIN - TE Kyle Rudolph not lacking confidence

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph said he feels he is the best all-around tight end in the NFL, and he added that the position is about more than catching passes and running routes.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Rudolph has looked sluggish in recent years, and 2015 fifth-round pick Mycole Pruitt should secure a larger role in the passing game this year. The one thing going in his favor is improvements on the offense line that will allow him to run more pass routes. Still, the Vikings pass offense is low volume and not a fertile soil for fantasy development. Even though Rudolph is high on himself, we wouldn't look at him until the end of fantasy drafts, if at all.

    Sunday Update

SF - RB Carlos Hyde buying into offense Source: CSNBayArea.com
San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde said he is excited about head coach Chip Kelly's offensive system and believes it will allow him to showcase all his abilities.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Hyde has never been a back that is used heavily in the passing game, and backup Shaun Draughn is better suited for the role. Still, he should be among the top ten backs in the league when it comes to carries, and even a modest total like 25-30 catches could have him flirting with RB1 status if he stays healthy and Chip Kelly continues to run more plays than any other offense.

    2. JAX - Bortles could still hit or top 35 touchdowns
    Source: Jacksonville.com - Hays Carlson
Hays Carlson of Jacksonville.com thinks expectations that Blake Bortles touchdown numbers will drop from his lofty level of 35 scores in 2015 are unfounded. The experience at receiver and tight end, continuity in the offense, improving running game, and better team and defense can keep Bortles at that level or even allow him to surpass it.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bortles is currently QB9 and a 7th/8th round pick in redraft leagues, which is not that steep considering his numbers last year and the compelling argument made by Carlson. The quarterback board is so stacked that most of them will give you a good chance to outproduce ADP.

    3. DET - WR Calvin Johnson staying retired
Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett
Retired WR Calvin Johnson (Lions) said Saturday, June 25, that he feels good about his decision to retire and is not coming back to the NFL.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Johnson might change his tune next year if his body feels better and he gets an itch to play football again, but the Lions would have the first shot at him. He might be worth a roster spot in very deep dynasty leagues, but the chances of him playing again are tiny despite his retiring when he still probably had multiple productive years left.

    4. HOU - Stephen Anderson likely to make roster?
    Source: ESPN.com - Tania Ganguli
Houston Texans undrafted rookie free agent TE Stephen Anderson is projected to make the final roster.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Anderson is a new breed H-back/Move TE type whose main contributions will be in the passing game. He might not be active on game days this year if he makes the roster, but he has more fantasy upside than Ryan Griffin or C.J. Fiedorowicz. He's worth a roster spot in TE premium and very deep dynasty leagues.

    5. HOU - TE C.J. Fiedorowicz has improved
Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson
Houston Texans TE C.J. Fiedorowicz has made a lot of progress in the passing game this offseason, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. 'He's more instinctive. He knows the plays better. He's a really, really hard worker,' O'Brien said. 'For him, his true improvement and his true playing will come in training camp when you put the full pads on.' Fiedorowicz (hamstring) was injured earlier this offseason, but he has begun running again and should be good to go by training camp.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Texans wide receiver corps has been reloaded with Will Fuller in the first round this year and Jaelen Strong in the third round last year, so their tight end spot in a low volume pass offense is less attractive than ever. Ryan Griffin is still the better receiving prospect, but Fiedorowicz is the better two-way tight end, and he should lead the team in tight end snaps if he stays healthy.

    6. DET - RB Zach Zenner fully recovered
    Source: MLive.com - Mike Mulholland
Detroit Lions RB Zach Zenner (ribs, lung) has appeared to be fully recovered from his rib and lung injuries last season.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Zenner should be considered a slight favorite over Stevan Ridley and seventh-round pick Dwayne Washington for the power runner roster spot. If he wins the job, Zenner will have draftable value as the most likely option on traditional goal line running plays and closer when the Lions have a lead.

    7. DET - WR Jeremy Kerley favored for No. 3 WR?
    Source: MLive.com - Mike Mulholland
Detroit Lions WR Jeremy Kerley is expected to be the Lions' No. 3 wide receiver behind WRs Golden Tate and Marvin Jones and ahead of WR T.J. Jones.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Kerley still has to beat out recent signing Andre Roberts and the Lions like Jones, so this is far from settled. No matter who wins, this is not going to be a fantasy-friendly role as the 5th target in the pass offense.

    8. DET - WR Andre Caldwell could make roster
    Source: MLive.com - Mike Mulholland
Detroit Lions WR Andre Caldwell looked comfortable and confident with his new team in early offseason practices. He has a legitimate chance to make the final roster, in the opinion of MLive.com's Mike Mulholland.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Lions wide receiver depth chart is wide open after Golden Tate and Marvin Jones. Veterans Jeremy Kerley and Andre Roberts are trying to get the slot receiver job along with youngster T.J. Jones. They also recently brought Anquan Boldin in for a visit, so this plot could thicken yet. Caldwell is steady, but lacks upside as a player, although his special teams contributions could give him an edge in a tight battle for one of the open spots at wide receiver.

    9. NYG - Eugene Monroe would not be given starting job
    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Dan Graziano
Free-agent OT Eugene Monroe (Ravens) may be a target for the New York Giants, but the Giants would not guarantee him a starting job if he signs with them.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Ereck Flowers is currently the starting left tackle, and the team sees him as their long-term left tackle so they might be hesitant to move to Flowers to right tackle even though current right tackle Marshall Newhouse is the starter they have less confidence in of the two. Monroe might slot best at right tackle for the Giants, but they could be ok with Newhouse if Monroe won't accept their terms, and Monroe might also be waiting for a left tackle job to come open. This situation could take until the first week or two of camp unfolds before it is resolved.

    10. NFL - QB Tarvaris Jackson arrested
    Source: The Associated Press
Free-agent QB Tarvaris Jackson (Seahawks) was arrested Friday, June 24, and has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly pulled a gun on his wife.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jackson was still seen as a possible signing for the Seahawks, since rookie UDFA Trevone Boykin is currently the backup quarterback. Boykin has been impressing, and the Seahawks wouldn't be the first contender to have a rookie UDFA as a backup. The Patriots had Brian Hoyer as the backup after they traded Matt Cassel in 2009. This arrest could nudge the Seahawks to go with Boykin.

    11. NYJ - DE Muhammad Wilkerson ditches brace
Source: The Star-Ledger - Dom Cosentino
New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson (leg) shared a video that showed him running without a leg brace, and he remains on track to be ready for the start of the season, if not sooner.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Wilkerson surprisingly did not draw strong trade interest during the draft, and the continuing recovery of his leg injury could be a reason. With the loss of Damon Harrison in free agency to the Giants, the Jets will need Wilkerson to earn his franchise tag salary of 15.701 million.

The best part of the T Jackson case was that when he pulled the gun on his wife, she said something to the nature if he shots like he throws the football, she's not worried about being hit.
