NFL Player News - Week of 5/30/16

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin weighs in on RB Marshawn Lynch Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin said he is 'most certain' that retired RB Marshawn Lynch is done playing football.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not so sure about that. Lynch is a "beat of a different drummer" type of guy, and he may one day decide to return to the league. We're not counting on it, but we're not counting him out forever. Perhaps he'll take a year off and return, or perhaps he is just done playing football.

NO - Big step coming for Willie Snead?

    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead could take a big step forward this season with his experience and comfort level in the offense, according to head coach Sean Payton. Payton said Snead has great attention to detail, he trains well, he's smart and he has a good knack for finding holes in zone coverage.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Snead emerged as a favorite target of Brees last year when he snared 69 catches for 984 yards and 3 TDs. We could see him produce at a similar clip this year. We see Snead as a low-end WR3 with upside and a player to consider as a flex in certain matchups.

TEN - RB David Cobb has lost weight

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans RB David Cobb has lost seven pounds compared to what he weighed last season. Cobb said it's been nice to have time to get healthy and is motivated because of it.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We still have an appreciation for Cobb as a runner, but with the addition of DeMarco Murray and rookie Derrick Henry he's 3rd on the depth chart at best. We'll see if this lighter version of Cobb is able to impress during camp and the preseason. Fantasy owners spend a lot of time considering top players on the depth chart, but just know that if injuries hit the Titans RB position Cobb has the talent to be a starting RB.

NO - QB Drew Brees remains focused

    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees has remained focus this offseason despite a potential future contract extension. Brees is able to keep his focus with whatever situation he is in, according to head coach Sean Payton. As was reported earlier, Brees and his representatives will not negotiate a contract during the 2016 season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Of course Brees is going to stay focused. He's got a $30 million cap hit at this time as he enters the final year of his deal. The Saints could extend Brees to keep him so that he retires a member of the team, but more importantly they could lower his cap hit for 2016.

    NO - Michael Thomas impressing

    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com

New Orleans Saints rookie WR Michael Thomas has impressed head coach Sean Payton with his hands so far this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's raw as a route-runner, but the second-round pick from Ohio State has a great size/speed/athleticism combination. Thomas does a good job of winning at the point of the catch with his arms naturally extended away from his body.

NO - TE Coby Fleener could help in red zone

    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener will be used as a receiver first and will hopefully help in third-down and red-zone situations, according to head coach Sean Payton, much like the way Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham was used when he played for the Saints.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're excited about Fleener this year with the Saints. Ben Watson finished as the 7th-best fantasy TE last year, but now he's moved on to the Ravens in free agency and Fleener comes over from the Colts to take his spot. The potential has always been there with Fleener, and this season we may see him play up to that potential. His current ADP is TE9 (8.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DET - Film different for QB Matthew Stafford

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford is approaching film study in a more traditional fashion this year. Stafford believes defensive looks will be more standard with former WR Calvin Johnson now retired. 'Some things are going to look differently to us because of the fact that there was always the Calvin factor,' head coach Jim Caldwell said, 'just in terms of what kind of coverage he was going to get.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The coverage is going to be much different without Johnson on the field. Teams won't have to commit two or three defenders to slowing down the superstar receiver. This is something Stafford has a small bit of experience with during the few times Johnson was out with an injury. Expect a lot of WR Golden Tate and WR Marvin Jones in this new-look Lions offense.

NYJ - Coach says TE Jace Amaro competing for job

Source: New York Post - Brian Costello
New York Jets TE Jace Amaro will have to compete for a roster spot during training camp, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said he has not seen Amaro play since he missed the entire 2015 season.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
That's the cold reality of the NFL. It stands for "Not For Long" for a reason. A second-round pick out of Texas Tech in 2014, Amaro had a lackluster rookie season and then missed all of his sophomore season. It's most definitely a make-or-break year for the athletic tight end.

PHI - RB Kenjon Barner working with starters

    Source: NJ.com - Eliot Shorr-Parks

Philadelphia Eagles RB Kenjon Barner has been working with the starters during OTAs with RB Ryan Mathews (groin) slowed by injury and RB Darren Sproles not participating, and beat writer Eliot Shorr-Parks believes Barner's edge over Mathews in speed and agility could earn him the starting job permanently.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This RB situation is one for fantasy owners to keep an eye on. Mathews seems to always be banged up, and behind him is Barner. The speedy back from Oregon has natural instincts for running the ball. However, we're interested about the back behind him in rookie Wendell Smallwood. The fifth-round pick from West Virginia led the Big 12 in rushing last year. When decisive as a runner, he can swiftly get to the second level of the defense. He's not overly creative, and thus may have trouble creating his own space.

OAK - Karl Joseph plays big

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Scott Bair

Oakland Raiders SS Karl Joseph plays bigger than he looks, according to LB Bruce Irvin, and Joseph said he has been learning a lot from Irvin as he recovers from a knee injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

At 5'10" 205 pounds, Joseph can be an intimidating presence near the line of scrimmage. He reminds us of a combination between T.J. Ward (Broncos) and Darian Stewart (Broncos). Joseph can play close in run defense, but he also has the ability to turn and cover when needed.

CIN - WR A.J. Green helping Tyler Boyd

    Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd said watching WR A.J. Green demonstrate techniques makes them easier to learn than just having someone tell him how to do them.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The second-round pick from Pitt is the likely starter opposite Green this year after the team lost Marvin Jones (Lions) and Mohamed Sanu (Falcons) in free agency. Boyd reminds some in the scouting community of Keenan Allen (Chargers) because of his competitive nature when the ball is in the air and his body control to make difficult catches seem routine.

Eagles would probably prefer to start Bradford the entire season and insert Wentz next year. However, Bradford's attitude and shittiness could change that.

    Wednesday Update

ARI - RB Chris Johnson could start for Arizona Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss
Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson could claim the starting job in Arizona's backfield despite head coach Bruce Arians claiming that RB David Johnson is the bell cow back, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Josh Weinfuss.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Note that this is just Josh Weinfuss' opinion. No matter who is the starter, the Cardinals are likely to use some form of RBBC. Chris Johnson proved last year that he still has some left in the tank...before getting hurt. David Johnson proved that he can be a big-time runner and receiver in the NFL. We're leaning towards David Johnson earning the starting job with the seasoned veteran Chris Johnson working as a change-of-pace back.

SD - RB Melvin Gordon not fully healthy

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (knee) is not at 100% yet at this point in the offseason, and he wasn't expected to be. He is still taking part in individual and team drills, though, after undergoing microfracture knee surgery in early January.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon had microfracture surgery back in January, and that's something that doesn't just clear up quickly. The team will monitor him this offseason and he may even see his snaps monitored closely in training camp.

MIN - More receiving for RB Adrian Peterson?

    Source: ESPN.com - Ben Goessling

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson could be more involved in the passing game this season, particularly in shotgun formation, according to ESPN.com's Ben Goessling. Peterson said he'd like to improve as a pass-catcher and has been working in that area this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not like Peterson is a bad receiver. He had 30 catches last year and a career high of 43 catches from back in 2009. No matter his receiving numbers, Peterson is still a top-5 fantasy RB and a player most will be considering near the top of every fantasy draft in 2016.

DAL - RB Darren McFadden could be traded

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden may end up as trade bait before the regular season, in the opinion of ESPNDallas.com's Todd Archer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Yeah, that's fine and all but to which team? We just can't imagine teams lined up around the block to add the oft-injured veteran back. The Cowboys could trade McFadden, but they better not be expecting much in return. They are more than set at the position with star rookie Ezekiel Elliott and veteran Alfred Morris.

DEN - WR Cody Latimer arrested

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos WR Cody Latimer was arrested Monday, May 30 for failing to pay a one-year old traffic ticket. The wide receiver shelled out $311.50 to resolve the situation. Latimer originally called police as the alleged victim of a domestic dispute.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's why Latimer wasn't at practice on Tuesday. It sounds like his traffic ticket isn't a big deal, but this certainly doesn't help the young WR. The Broncos moved up in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft to add Latimer, but he's only got 8 receptions and one touchdown as a pro. Latimer has turned into a solid special teams player, but he's not playing up to his potential as a receiver. It's a make-or-break year for Latimer...especially with Bennie Fowler pushing him for the WR3 job on the depth chart.

HOU - DE J.J. Watt could return soon

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (groin) said he feels really good and hopes to return to practice soon.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Texans are wise to be cautious with their superstar here. The team has built and incredible roster on both sides of the ball and if QB Brock Osweiler doesn't screw it up, the Texans can make a run at the postseason again in 2016.

NYJ - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick could sign elsewhere

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) could spurn the New York Jets to take less money for another team on principle alone, according to team sources. The Jets no longer believe that re-signing Fitzpatrick is inevitable after their contract offer terms became public this weekend.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Where? We know anything can happen in the NFL, but there is no team clamoring to add Fitzpatrick. Our only hope is that Fitzpatrick signs somewhere so we can stop this pointless drama with the Jets. Fitzpatrick knows the system and would be the best QB on the Jets roster. Will they or won't they? We just wish they would so we didn't have to write about it every day.

PIT - WR Markus Wheaton confident he'll make impact

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ray Fittipaldo

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton, who finished last year with 44 catches and five touchdowns, thinks he and QB Ben Roethlisberger developed enough chemistry to move forward and have a better season in 2016. 'We got on the same page as the season went on,' said Wheaton, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract. 'We learned how to communicate with each other, more so me communicating with him and giving him what he wants. I'm learning how to just be who I need to be when it comes to what Ben wants me to be.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wheaton has had poor chemistry with Roethlisberger in the past. We'll have to see if the duo does a better job of building a rapport this offseason. Wheaton is a great route-runner, but his timing with his QB has been off. When he's playing at his best, Wheaton has fantasy relevance in the league's most high-powered offense. With Martavis Bryant suspended for the year, guys like Wheaton and Sammie Coates will be asked to do more.

CAR - WR Kelvin Benjamin moving well

    Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) is moving around well during organized team activities, and it doesn't look at all like he had surgery last season on his knee, in the opinion of ESPN.com's David Newton.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're excited to see Benjamin back this year. He was a great target for QB Cam Newton as a rookie, and having him back in the arsenal should make the entire passing game better. If he's regained his explosiveness after knee surgery, then he can easily perform like a mid-range WR2 with WR1 upside for fantasy owners this season.

NYJ - WR Eric Decker, WR Brandon Marshall back

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WRs Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall were back at practice for organized team activities Tuesday, May 31, after sitting out the opening week in a show of solidarity for the unsigned QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're glad that's over. The drama surrounding Fitzpatrick can end at any time now. The Jets drafted Christian Hackenberg in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft, but he's more of a developmental QB with the upside to be a future starter. Fitzpatrick can step in and start today, and he's a better option for the team than Geno Smith. While things have been at an impasse between the two sides to this point, we have a feeling something will (eventually) get done.

PHI - Carson Wentz off to fast start

Source: NJ Advanced Media - Matt Lombardo

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz has displayed an NFL-caliber arm and the ability to make every throw on the route-tree during practice, and beat writer Matt Lombardo believes Wentz seems to be ahead of QB Sam Bradford when it comes to mastering head coach Doug Pederson's offense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nobody should really be surprised by this. Wentz has incredible work ethic and is known as a football junkie. The rookie may win the starting job in Philadelphia in Week 1. To quote Dennis Green, Bradford is who we thought he was....but we won't let him off the hook. Neither can the Eagles as they're on the hook for $22 million in guaranteed money over the next two years for the painfully average veteran QB.

    DAL - Two rookies sign

    Source: NFL

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and DE Charles Tapper signed their four-year rookie deals Tuesday, May 31. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Prescott could be the QB of the future for the Cowboys...and that future may come soon if Tony Romo continues to battle injuries. During his college career at Mississippi State, Prescott was an athletic QB who had to work behind a bad offensive line. He can hurt a defense as a scrambler, but Prescott is underrated as a passer. Earlier this year during the week of practice for the Senior Bowl, Prescott went out of his way to show that he could throw with timing and touch from the pocket. We're excited about his upside in dynasty leagues, but he's got no re-draft value so long as Romo is healthy.

DEN - OLB DeMarcus Ware likely to miss most of OTAs

Source: The Denver Post - Cameron Wolfe

Denver Broncos DE DeMarcus Ware (back) is expected to miss most of organized team activities with his back ailment, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. Kubiak is hopeful that Ware will be able to get a couple of practice sessions in, though.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ware is going to be a part-time player in 2016. The Broncos managed his back injury last year, and Ware ended up missing time two separate times in 2015 (and for a total of five games). This year, guys like Shaq Barrett and Shane Ray are going to get more snaps opposite Von Miller. Ware should come onto the field in obvious passing situations, and the team expects him to be ready to participate in training camp.

DEN - TE Jeff Heuerman limited

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos TE Jeff Heuerman (hamstring) has been limited in organized team activities with a hamstring injury.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The TE position is quite important in the Gary Kubiak offense, and Heuerman could be in line to be the primary weapon at the position. The second-year pro missed all of his rookie season in 2015 due to a knee injury he suffered in rookie minicamp. During his college career at Ohio State, Heuerman was known as a player who battled nagging (mostly foot) injuries often. So far as a pro, the book hasn't changed on him. The opportunity is there, but perhaps a player like Virgil Green will emerge at the TE position in Denver. Stay tuned.

DEN - Denver quarterbacks playing evenly

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos QBs Mark Sanchez, Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian have been dividing repetitions down the middle, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. Kubiak said it's an unusual situation, but that all three are good players.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The reps are split evenly for the Broncos QBs. There's some who consider Siemian a "sleeper" at the position but we just can't see that happening. The team's future is Lynch, and they are microwaving his learning curve in an effort to get him ready to start as a rookie. Whether or not he starts Week 1 is going to be up to him and what he shows in training camp.

    DEN - Devontae Booker participating

Source: The Denver Post - Cameron Wolfe

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (knee) is taking 7-on-7 repetitions in practice this week, which is a good sign for his knee.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Booker declared himself about 90 percent healthy a few weeks ago. The fourth-round pick is a decisive and powerful runner. Some say he could push C.J. Anderson for the starting job, but we think of Booker as more of a three-down-back-in-waiting for the Broncos. Any fantasy owner who drafts Anderson needs to consider Booker a valuable handcuff later in the draft.

TEN - WR Dorial Green-Beckham must earn job

Source: The Tennessean - Joe Rexrode

Tennessee Titans WR Dorial Green-Beckham must earn a starting role in 2016, according to head coach Mike Mularkey. 'How effective is he out here, first? And then we get into these preseason games, see how much we can load him up. We also know we've got some other options too that will be competing with him. So it's not a for sure he's lining up at 'X' for us on opening Sunday. They've got to earn it.' Last week was Green-Beckham's first 'full go' week while dealing with a hamstring problem that has been a problem for years.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We get this mindset from the veteran coach. Any young player has to "earn it" and they're better off if they do. The upside is through the roof with Green-Beckham. If he continues to develop and establishes good chemistry with QB Marcus Mariota then the second-year WR can eventually be one of the best at his position. That won't happen this year, but Green-Beckham could at least be a WR3/WR4 with upside for fantasy owners in 2016. His current ADP is WR40 (9.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIA - WR Jarvis Landry can improve

    Source: ESPN.com - James Walker

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry averaged just 10.5 yards per catch last year, which was ranked 105th in the league out of qualifying receivers. Only 10 of his 110 catches (9%) went for 20 yards or more in 2015. New head coach Adam Gase will try to put Landry in a position to make more big plays this year. Landry also had just four receiving touchdowns last year despite being targeted 165 times in the red zone, which was sixth most in the league. Miami plans to keep Landry fresh by reducing his role on special teams as well. He returned 49 kickoffs and punts in 2015.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Landry has the ability to do more as a downfield receiver, and we're confident the Dolphins passing game will look much better with Gase running the show. Last year, Landry ranked 94th in air yards per target with a paltry average of 7.15 yards. Gase should feature Landry on more downfield targets this season.

WAS - QB Kirk Cousins staying prepared

    Source: CSNMidAtlantic.com - Tarik El-Bashir

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins has been calling former NFL quarterbacks for advice on how to approach the offseason. 'I've called a few starting quarterbacks around the league, a few of the retired guys who had great careers, and just asked them what worked for them in the offseason' Cousins said.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
You like that? We appreciate everything Cousins has done this offseason. First, he signed his franchise tag almost immediately. Then, he's been shining during offseason workouts and he's not missing a beat. Finally, reaching out to former NFL QBs to pick their brains show how much he's dialed in. Cousins was a top-10 fantasy QB last year, and he should finish around that spot again this year.

    Thursday Update

DAL - WR Dez Bryant does some work Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot) participated in pre-practice activities before leaving for rehabilitation work Wednesday, June 1.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The team has been..and will be...cautious with Bryant as he continues to recover from this foot injury. If Bryant is healthy (and Tony Romo), there's no reason to think he can't be a top-10 fantasy WR once again in 2016.

CLE - Robert Griffin not the starter yet

    Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III has not officially been named the starting quarterback yet, and head coach Hue Jackson is not ready to name a starter at this point. 'When the time is right, trust me, you guys will be the first to know,' Jackson said. Jackson has seen improvements in Griffin, who he says in getting better every day, but added that the Browns need to make the right choice, not just the fast choice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

To steal a line from Terrell Owens, it's only a matter of time. Provided that he's healthy and doesn't implode in camp, we feel Griffin should be the starter. Josh McCown is going to push him for the top spot, and we may see rookie Cody Kessler develop into a starter for the Browns in the future.

LA - QB Nick Foles skipping workouts

    Source: ESPN.com - Jim Trotter

Los Angeles Rams QB Nick Foles has not participated in any offseason workouts since the team selected QB Jared Goff with the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, according to sources. Foles was not present for organized team activities Tuesday, May 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound? If Foles skips workouts and hardly anybody notices, does it really matter? Foles has gone straight Sam Bradford here, and he needs to check himself. Somebody close to him needs to remind him that he is, in fact, Nick Foles. The Rams are moving on with Goff as their franchise QB....Foles should be a professional and show up.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (shoulder, knee, thumb) has still not been cleared to participate in practice but he has reported for every organized team activity this offseason. Kaepernick has been taking mental reps during practice. He is scheduled to receive a $400,000 bonus if he participates in at least 90% of the offseason workouts. Kaepernick may not receive clearance for full participation for the mandatory minicamp in a few weeks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kaepernick is recovering from three surgeries this offseason, and it's no surprise that he's still not ready. This recovery time has given Blaine Gabbert a headstart in the competition to be the team's starting QB. We'll see if Kaepernick can make up ground quickly and win the job when he's finally healthy later this year.

NFL - RB Arian Foster may wait to work out

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent RB Arian Foster (Achilles') may not work out for teams until late July. Foster likely would be able to pass a physical at this point but the extra time likely would improve his health.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Once June minicamps are done, Foster could start getting more interest. The extra time would certainly help, but we think there are going to be more than a few teams interested in Foster. If we were to predict his destination, we put our chips on the Miami Dolphins landing the veteran back.

PIT - WR Sammie Coates in great shape

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Sammie Coates is expected to benefit significantly from the one-year suspension of WR Martavis Bryant. Coates has 'worked like crazy' this offseason and is in great shape and the coaching staff is tremendously confident in his abilities, beat writer Ed Bouchette said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not worried about Coates being out of shape....but we are going to be watching closely to see if he can play with better concentration. Coates is fast and physical, but he drops too many easy passes. He'll have to be better if he wants to earn a larger role with the Steelers in 2016. With Martavis Bryant suspended for the entire year, having Coates breakout would greatly benefit the Steelers passing game.

DEN - Paxton Lynch works with first team

    Source: DenverBroncos.com - Andrew Mason

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch continues to make progress as he gets comfortable during organized team activities (OTAs). Head coach Gary Kubiak has continued to divide the first-team snaps for the quarterbacks three ways between Lynch, QB Mark Sanchez and QB Trevor Siemian.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lynch is getting a crash course in the NFL. He's a perfect fit for the Kubiak system because of his athleticism and ability to make plays under pressure. In fact, Lynch was the best QB in this draft class when it comes to making plays under duress. He's the QB of the future for the Broncos, and the future may be now.

DEN - QB Mark Sanchez tests thumb in OTAs

    Source: DenverBroncos.com - Andrew Mason

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez (thumb) went through a full workload in team and seven-on-seven periods Tuesday, May 31, during organized team activities (OTAs). 'We'll get eight or nine (days) of good work with him under center,' head coach Gary Kubiak said. Sanchez, QB Trevor Siemian and QB Paxton Lynch each split the first-team snaps three ways.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanchez was working from under center, and he didn't seem to have any trouble taking snaps. The veteran may be in line to win the starting job for Week 1, but know the Broncos are grooming rookie first-round pick Paxton Lynch to take over ASAP.

DEN - OLB Brandon Marshall working out

    Source: DenverBroncos.com - Andrew Mason

Denver Broncos LB Brandon M. Marshall (finger) continued to work out on the side after taking part in individual drills during organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 31. He is making his way back from finger surgery. Head coach Gary Kubiak expects Marshall to be ready soon, and he might even see the field during OTAs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marshall is one of the most important defenders on the Broncos roster full of star players. With Danny Trevathan gone, Marshall could be asked to slide over to weak-side inside linebacker. When healthy, we should see where Marshall shine for the Broncos defense in any role he's given.

Source: New York Daily News - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. is not present for organized team activities Wednesday, June 1. Head coach Ben McAdoo said the team was aware of the absence and are expecting him back later in the week.

    Sounds like a non-issue here.

LA - RB Todd Gurley could see big workload

    Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley may average 20 touches per game this season, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Nick Wagoner.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We think 20 should be the minimum--not the average--for a superstar back like Gurley. The Rams are building the offense around him. Gurley can do the heavy lifting to keep things simpler for rookie QB Jared Goff. He could finish the season as a top-5 fantasy RB.

SF - WR James Jones likes San Francisco

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

Free-agent WR James Jones (Packers) said he would love to play for the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. Jones, who played for San Jose State in college, would like to remain in the Bay Area. While his preference is to stay in the Bay Area, Jones added that he's just ready to play and will play wherever.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The 49ers have a big need at #2 wide receiver. They could still bring back Anquan Boldin or look for a winner among the current lackluster wide receiver depth chart. The eventual #2 receiver is unlikely to have fantasy relevance, but they could hurt #1 wide receiver Torrey Smith's upside.

HOU - WR Jaelen Strong in better shape

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Jaelen Strong is down to 197 pounds after weighing in at 230 pounds last season. An improved physique has already improved his game. 'I just said to him today how far he's come,' head coach Bill O'Brien said. 'I was concerned about him from a conditioning standpoint. He really at some point in time before training camp, he came back and passed the conditioning test and really took off after that.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Strong looks like a different player according to observers. His offseason arrest might have dropped him off of fantasy radars in dynasty leagues, so this is a good time to buy low if you liked Strong coming out but missed him in last year's rookie drafts. He will vie to start outside and keep first-round pick Will Fuller in a deep target role. Cecil Shorts is likely to line up in the slot.

TEN - WR Dorial Green-Beckham still has to improve

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans WR Dorial Green-Beckham needs to play faster and not think as much, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green-Beckham was away from football for a year before getting drafted in the second round last year, so this isn't a shock. His natural size/athleticism combination can be dominant if he is just adequate playing at speed, so there's a lot of upside if the game slows down for him. Green-Beckham is a good bet to start outside with Rishard Matthews. Kendall Wright is slated to line up in the slot. Tight end Delanie Walker may lead the team in targets, so Green-Beckham will likely be a boom/bust play week-to-week on a team looking to play "exotic smashmouth" football.

DAL - RB Darren McFadden not at practice

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer
Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden (personal) was not present for organized team activities Wednesday, June 1, for personal reasons. RB Ezekiel Elliott ran with the first team in McFadden's absence, while RB Alfred Morris took snaps with the second team.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Elliott has been working with the second team as he has to prove himself as a pro. The first-round pick has superstar upside, and he could perform like a top-10 fantasy RB this year. Morris should work as a two-down backup. There are rumors swirling the Cowboys may actually trade away McFadden.

ARI - JJ Nelson performing well in workouts

    Source: The Associated Press

Arizona Cardinals WR JJ Nelson has made several terrific catches during organized team activities this offseason and said that playing in 2015 helped boost his confidence. Head coach Bruce Arian said he believes Nelson could make an impact on offense in 2016. 'He has a very unique skill in tracking the ball that the great ones have when the ball's coming over your opposite shoulder,' Arians said. 'When you have a little fast guy that can do that, you have a special one.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The future is bright for Nelson, but in 2016 he's buried on the depth chart behind Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and John Brown. He's a deep receiver with the speed to get by the defense in a hurry. We'll see if he can continue to shine as the offseason continues.

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') is working off to the side in individual drills during organized team activities Wednesday, June 1. Doctson missed last week with a tweaked Achilles'.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The rookie can be more than a slot receiver, but that might be his role this year behind DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon. The team should be cautious as Achilles' injuries can be tricky to deal with.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jeffery has signed his franchise tag tender and is expected to rejoin the team for the veteran mandatory minicamp beginning in the middle of June. At this time, it seems like there's no long-term agreement coming from the Bears for Jeffery in the future.

LA - Coach has high hopes for WR Tavon Austin

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin may be able to double his reception totals in 2016 because opposing defenses will look to stop RB Todd Gurley, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. Austin finished the 2015 with 52 receptions for 473 yards and five touchdowns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Rams finally figured out how to use Austin the right way. He can be a relief-valve receiver for rookie QB Jared Goff, but improving those numbers from last year may prove to be difficult.

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (undisclosed) is expected to participate in organized team activities this week after he missed practices last week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'd like to see a healthy Clay this year for the Bills. Last year in his first season in Buffalo, Clay had a disappointing season with 51 catches for 528 yards and three touchdowns in only 13 games. If healthy, Clay can do more and certainly could outperform his current ADP of TE19 (13.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CHI - WR Kevin White building rapport with QB

    Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Adam L. Jahns

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) is building chemistry with QB Jay Cutler during organized team activities (OTAs), and the rapport building is in the early stages. As far as his health is concerned, he said Tuesday, May 31, that he has felt 100 percent for months.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is great news for the Bears, and White looks like he could be a tremendous value for fantasy owners. His current ADP of WR35 (7.10) in 12-team PPR leagues is a position he could easily outperform in 2016. We feel White has at least WR2 upside for fantasy owners so long as he can stay healthy.

    Friday Update

NYJ - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick stance could escalate Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick's (Jets) impasse with the New York Jets could be more heavily addressed in the coming weeks, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini. Head coach Todd Bowles said the Jets could wait until training camp in late July, but Cimini believes New York will want to get something done before that. Furthermore, if Los Angeles Rams QB Nick Foles is released, then it could prompt the Jets to force the issue with their quarterback, as Foles could be deemed a last-chance option for a veteran signal-caller.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets have all the leverage here right now and they will play this however they want. Maybe the Rams offer Fitzpatrick if Foles is released, but it's clear that otherwise nobody wants Fitzpatrick and his options are very limited. The Jets could offer Foles a cheap deal and likely he would take it for an outside shot to start, though we imagine he would end up on the bench. Meanwhile we believe Bryce Petty is most in danger of not making the final cut if another quarterback shows up.

NYJ - NYJ not giving QB Ryan Fitzpatrick one year

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) is open to signing a one-year deal with the New York Jets worth $12 million, but the team is not willing to make that offer to him, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As outlined by Mike Florio at Pro Football Talk, the Jets simply can't do that without really putting themselves in a bad cap position. Per Florio: "If, for example, the pending offer from the Jets includes a $9 million signing bonus and a $3 million salary in 2016, Fitzpatrick would count only $6 million against the cap this season. Under his proposed one-year contract, the cap hit becomes $12 million." Fitzpatrick has tried as hard as he could to leverage what little position he had into more money but the Jets won't budge. A mediocre quarterback coming off a career year (which in the grand scheme of things was only impressive compared to his previous work), nobody else wants Fitzpatrick and the Jets are willing to roll out Geno Smith rather than hurt their team long term.

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (shoulder, thumb, knee) does not have a timetable for when he will be cleared for football activities, according to offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins. Modkins said it's important that Kaepernick is cleared when he's healthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's allegedly an open competition so missing time will put Kaepernick behind Blaine Gabbert but this offense is a bit of a mess so we'd avoid any quarterback here until we see that change.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're excited to see this offense whole and intact again, and Nelson is a key piece of that. We expect him to be a very nice WR1 this year in an offense that should pop.

PHI - Carson Wentz ahead of the curve

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo said QB Carson Wentz has exceeded his expectations in terms of playing speed and vision on the field. 'I think there were some things that I thought he would need a little more work with it than he does. He's further along from a seeing-the-field standpoint than I thought he would be. He's further along from a playing speed standpoint than I thought he would be coming from the FCS level. Those are things that I guess you can say I'm pleasantly surprised with, but not shocked,' DeFilippo said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz is a sharp guy, and very hardworking, so this is no shock to many of us. Of course, we don't know how high (or low) DeFilippo set the bar to be impressed. We don't know if Wentz will see more than a handful of snaps this season, but there's a real chance he could beat out Sam Bradford this year. We'd avoid starting him in fantasy in that case, as while his upside is high, Wentz is also very raw.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Barnidge was a surprise fantasy force last season, so maybe this will help him back under the radar for smart owners to take advantage of. We see him as a borderline TE1/TE2 but will watch both his recovery and the development of the Browns passing offense with Robert Griffin III and the 400 or so new wide receivers.

KC - RB Jamaal Charles won't work until camp

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) made an appearance at practice Wednesday, June 1, wearing a jersey and shorts without a helmet. However, he did not practice, and he is not expected to participate in practice until training begins in July, at the earliest.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We would be less concerned if Charles wasn't coming off his second ACL injury at 30 but even being worried about that won't stop us from feeling like he is RB1 material. It does put him in the lower half of that category, though. Fantasy owners need to note that the Chiefs are likely to use Charcandrick West in the offense--even if Charles is at full strength.

    Henry might be the replacement for Antonio Gates but every time we think that about a tight end in San Diego it doesn't happen. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Hurns had a good second season and the Jaguars are wise to make a commitment to him now. His 1,031 yards and ten touchdowns are definitely needed this year and we see him as a solid WR2/WR3 type fantasy producer. He has a current ADP of WR27 (5.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

It's going to be hard to find any room to get snaps with rookie Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield. Morris is a proven two-down veteran back, but he's only going to be a reserve runner with the Cowboys in 2016. He may win the primary backup job behind Elliott if Darren McFadden is traded away.

WRs Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor and Chris Givens are among the players that will be part of the workouts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a good step, though Mark Sanchez used to do that with his Jets receivers and it never seemed to help. That said, Bradford is still a shaky QB3 until he 1) has the job for sure and 2) proves he can produce consistently.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ivory signed a five-year deal, so we are sure the Jaguars will use him but we also feel his total carries will drop from the last few years with the Jets. That hurts his production and right now holds him back as a low-end RB3. Ivory has a current ADP of RB32 (7.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas not worried about QB

    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas is not worried about the team's uncertainty at the quarterback position this offseason. 'Oh we're not worried,' Thomas said. 'We still got time. These guys are going to be fine. Mark Sanchez has won playoff games. I can't say much about (the experience of) Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian, but they've been great so far. So we'll be fine. We got playmakers around them and coaches will put them in the right situation, and of course we've still got our great defense.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well, Thomas has his own issues to worry about after the flurry of drops he had last season late in the year. That said, he also knows that the team will work to replicate much of what happened last season on offense—strong run game, smart passes—and that the passing can't be worse than what they saw last season. On the positive side, now that Peyton Manning is done, the team can run something much closer to Gary Kubiak's vision of offense than they could with Manning under center. We think Thomas has a good year and puts up borderline WR1/WR2 numbers in this conservative run-first offense.

Tennessee Titans WR Justin Hunter met with head coach Mike Mularkey before practice Wednesday, June 1, and the head man challenged him. Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Tajae Sharpe saw reps with the first-team offense during practice at organized team activities (OTAs) Wednesday, June 1, and he drew praise from head coach Mike Mularkey. 'He is a very good route runner, and he is not intimidated by this level at all. He is very patient in what he does. He is working in a rotation right now with the 1s so he gets to work with (QB Marcus Mariota) at times. So I think he has been as steady as any of them,' Mularkey said.

GB - HC impressed by WR Davante Adams

    Source: Packers.com - Wes Hodkiewicz
Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams is looking for a rebound after a poor season in 2015. He struggled with an ankle injury suffered in Week 2 which he aggravated the following week. Adams never fully recovered until the playoffs, and then he suffered a knee injury. During the offseason he bulked up, lifting weights once his knee fully healed. His head coach has taken notice. 'He looks stronger this year than in the past and he's healthy,' head coach Mike McCarthy said.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    Saturday Update

PHI - QB Sam Bradford 'outstanding' in OTAs Source: ESPN.com - Phil Sheridan

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford has been 'outstanding' in organized team activities and remains the No. 1 quarterback, according to head coach Doug Pederson. 'Sam's taking this thing and running with it,' Pederson said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good! We're just glad that Bradford realized that he's Sam Bradford and got back to camp with the team to compete for the starting job--something he's never had to do before. Rookie Carson Wentz could sit and develop for a year if (a BIG if) Bradford stays healthy and impresses.

LA - RB Todd Gurley wants more catches

    Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley said he wants to be more involved in the passing game in 2016 as long as he can stay healthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Rams should give Gurley what he wants. He's got superstar upside in the NFL, and Gurley's blend of power and speed make him a candidate to lead the league in rushing this season. He caught 21 passes last year, but he could easily catch twice that amount this year.

PHI - RB Darren Sproles to arrive next week

    Source: ESPN.com - Phil Sheridan

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles and DT Fletcher Cox are expected to be present at next week's mandatory camp, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mandatory minicamp is when all the veterans who have been working out on their own show up. The Eagles RB situation is an interesting one to monitor for fantasy owners. Sproles will play in his usual role, but if Ryan Mathews doesn't stay healthy (a real possibility) then perhaps rookie Wendell Smallwood gets a larger role.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor sharp in red zone

    Source: WalterFootball.com

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor was sharp in red zone drills Wednesday, June 1, hitting TE Chris Gragg for a pair of touchdowns.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor looked great as a starter for the first time in his career last season with the Bills. He has a strong arm, uncanny deep touch and the ability to gash defenses as a runner. Taylor finished 2015 as the 17th-best fantasy QB in standard-scoring leagues. We feel he should finish as a low-end QB2 once again this year due to the nature of the run-heavy offense in Buffalo.

MIA - Miami not looking at RB Knowshon Moreno

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Free-agent RB Knowshon Moreno (Dolphins) has said he would like to sign with the Miami Dolphins, but the Dolphins do not have interest in him.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moreno is trying to make a comeback, but there shouldn't be many (if any) teams interested in the veteran back. His knee problems bothered him during his entire pro career, and the all-purpose back may find that his time in the NFL has come to a close.

MIA - WR Jarvis Landry could still be returner

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry will continue to be the team's kick returner if he is the best option for the job, according to special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Landry can do both, even if he's a top receiver for the team. Keep this in mind if you play in fantasy leagues that reward points for return touchdowns and perhaps even return yards.

NYJ - DE Muhammad Wilkerson to skip minicamp

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson will not participate in the team's upcoming minicamp because of his contract status.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He has not signed his franchise tender offer at this point and is not required to report for the mandatory minicamp. The team has until July 15 to reach a long-term agreement with Wilkerson. At this time, there is no indication the team wants to sign Wilkerson to a long-term deal.

JAX - Jalen Ramsey should be ready for camp

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Hays Carlyon

Jacksonville Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey (knee) should be a full participant once training camp begins, according to general manager David Caldwell.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ramsey seems to have avoided a serious injury when he got banged up earlier in OTAs. The talented defender should be a great asset for the Jaguars defense...and unit that has been reshaped through the draft and free agency.

TEN - RB Bishop Sankey performing well

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans RB Bishop Sankey has made some solid plays during offseason workouts, and head coach Mike Mularkey said he believes the competition at the position has improved the play of several of the running backs. Sankey is expected to compete with RBs Antonio Andrews and David Cobb for roster spots during training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll believe when we see it. Sankey has been a total bust for the Titans, and he's buried on the depth chart. The Titans are going to use an "exotic smashmouth" backfield featuring both DeMarco Murray and rookie Derrick Henry.

SD - Hunter Henry needs to improve blocking

    Source: Chargers.com - Ricky Henne

San Diego Chargers TE Hunter Henry needs to improve his blocking skills if he wants to become a complete tight end but that is true for most young tight ends, according to tight ends coach John McNulty.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tight ends usually take some time to get up to speed in the NFL. Henry has a game similar to that of Jason Witten (Cowboys). He was the best tight end in this draft class, and he should be groomed as the heir apparent behind Antonio Gates.

NYG - WR Geremy Davis sees time with starters

    Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano

New York Giants WR Geremy Davis has received snaps with the first-team offense during offseason workouts and is a player the team can rely on, according to head coach Ben McAdoo. There is a chance Davis can be part of the three-receiver sets in 2016 if WR Victor Cruz (calf) is unable to recover from his injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis was a sixth-round pick for the Giants in the 2015 NFL draft. Coming out of UCONN, Davis showed well as a route-runner and a player who could make difficult catches over the middle. He's a player we've been monitoring in dynasty leagues.

CHI - TE Zach Miller looking to keep it going

    Source: ChicagoBears.com - Larry Mayer

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller said he expects to be one of the offense's main weapons in the 2016 season. 'I think everyone as a playmaker, you expect to be that,' he said. 'I'm going to have an opportunity to show that ability and really kind of just take over from how we left off last season. I showed there were opportunities where I could make plays. That’s kind of how I’m going to approach how we begin the year.' Miller accumulated 34 catches for 439 yards and a team-high five touchdown receptions in 2015.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bears let Martellus Bennett (Patriots) move on in free agency because of Miller. Coming out of Nebraska-Omaha years ago as a converted quarterback to tight end prospect, Miller has always had the athleticism to make plays at the pro level. He finally stayed healthy and was able to prove that last year with the Bears. If healthy, Miller can be a TE2 with upside. His current ADP is TE22 (13.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

GB - TE Jared Cook had foot surgery

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook (foot) underwent foot surgery this week and will miss the rest of the offseason program, according to multiple sources. The Packers are hoping he'll be back next month for training camp, though, and the surgery was called 'preventative.' Green Bay has big plans for Cook in 2016 after he caught only 39 passes in 2015 with the St. Louis Rams.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cook has always had a ton of potential as a pro. His college coach at South Carolina, Steve Spurrier, once compared Cook's physical skill set to that of Calvin Johnson. However, Cook has never played up to his potential. Perhaps getting away from Jeff Fisher is the key. We're excited about his upside with the Packers, but this foot surgery is something to monitor as he recovers.

WAS - WR Jamison Crowder, WR Ryan Grant seeing chances

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins WRs Jamison Crowder and Ryan Grant are trying to seize opportunities with WRs DeSean Jackson and Josh Doctson (foot) out of practices right now. Crowder had an active day Wednesday, June 1, receiving more targets from QB Kirk Cousins than any other first-team receiver. Doctson can also play the slot and could cut into Crowder's playing time. Grant lined up opposite WR Pierre Garcon and showed crisp route running and soft hands.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We've seen Crowder make plays last year as a rookie. It will be interesting to see what his role becomes now that the team added Doctson in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft. Grant has great hands and does a good job of tracking passes over his shoulder. We appreciate his value in dynasty leagues, but don't see much of a role for him in 2016 with such a stacked group of WRs ahead of him in Washington.

SEA - Trevone Boykin continues to rise

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks QB Trevone Boykin appears to be the backup to QB Russell Wilson right now ahead of QB Jake Heaps. The Seahawks' confidence in Boykin continues to grow during offseason workouts. There remains a chance that the Seahawks wind up re-signing QB Tarvaris Jackson, though.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has been impressed by Boykin. He was a star QB at TCU but fell undrafted this year. The Seahawks scooped him up because he has a similar skill set to that of Wilson. Boykin is an athletic passer with a good arm, and he put up astronomical numbers at TCU (over 10,000 yards passing, 2,000-plus rushing yards, 114 TDs). We're watching him in all dynasty formats.

NO - Brees impressed with Michael Thomas

Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune - Christopher Dabe

Updating previous reports, New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas has shown serious potential in the offense during organized team activities in the last two weeks. 'His improvement over these six practices has been awesome,' QB Drew Brees said. 'From day one until now, the same mistakes are not being made. He's on to the next set of challenges, and he's continuing to progress well.' What impressed Brees the most was Thomas' awareness to change his route on a third-down play when Brees gave the receiver a visual cue to do so. Thomas has primarily played the X-receiver position, which is typically aligned opposite the tight end with his feet at the line of scrimmage. The Saints selected Thomas with a desire to use him mainly as a receiving option in the red zone at 6-3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Message! Fantasy owners need to take note here. Thomas was a second-round pick for the Saints in the 2016 NFL draft, and he's got the upside to be a quality starter on the outside. He's a big player who can be physical at the point of the catch. Thomas is not a good route-runner, but his natural athleticism and great hands could push him past Brandon Coleman on the depth chart during his rookie season.

SF - WR Quinton Patton in line to start

Source: Sacramento Bee - Matt Barrows

San Francisco 49ers WR Quinton Patton has been working as a starter across from WR Torrey Smith during OTAs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Patton has also been dropping too many passes (like he always does) according to camp reports.

    Sunday Update

NE - RB Dion Lewis says rehab going well Source: WEEI.com - Ryan Hannable

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) said the rehab from his torn anterior cruciate ligament is going well and that he is doing what the trainers are allowing him to do.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Fantasy owners need to monitor his progress as he comes back from this injury. If healthy, Lewis can be used effectively as a runner and receiver for the Patriots high-powered offense. Lewis has not participated in offseason workouts and probably will miss the upcoming minicamp as well.

NYJ - WR Brandon Marshall praises QB Geno Smith

    Source: CBSSportsNewYork.com

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall said it seems like the game has slowed down for QB Geno Smith, and he added that Smith has been playing with poise during OTAs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things change quickly around here. It wasn't that long ago that Marshall was supposedly staying away from Jets camp in protest of the team not signing QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Now, he's at camp and praising a player who might not win the job if Fitzpatrick is ever brought back. We're not saying we don't believe Marshall when he praises Smith, but we're not getting overly excited about Smith even if he is the starter. Getting excited about Smith as the Jets starter is like defending the "Martha turn" in Batman v Superman.

NYJ - New York backs should be ready for camp

    Source: NJ.com - Darryl Slater

New York Jets RBs Zac Stacy (ankle) and Khiry Robinson (leg) are both expected to be ready for training camp. Stacy suffered a broken ankle late last season, while Robinson broke his leg late in the year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets went out and added Matt Forte in free agency earlier this year. He's going to be the lead back for the team, and we expect them to lean on Forte as much as possible. Bilal Powell is likely the primary backup, and that leaves Robinson and Stacy fighting for a spot in the pecking order. Both are talented, but we prefer Robinson because of his size/speed combination.

JAX - Improvement for WR Marqise Lee

    Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee has improved this offseason, according to offensive coordinator Greg Olson. 'He's been very steady and he looks good,' Olson said. 'We'll continue to push him. We wanted to give Marqise a chance to play a couple of different positions at wide receiver so it's good to have him out there.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll believe it when we see it. Lee had one outstanding year at USC, but his final year of college was kind of a harbinger of what was to come. His numbers fell from year one to year two with the Jaguars. Lee will compete with Rashad Greene to be the team's WR3 behind Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns.

JAX - Faster pace for Jacksonville offense?

    Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville offense have been practicing more of a no-huddle offense this offseason. Offensive coordinator Greg Olson said the coaching staff felt like Bortles felt comfortable with the two-minute offense and they wanted to use more of that.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We could see slightly better fantasy numbers if the team is playing more snaps and spending more time on offense. Bortles finished the 2015 season as the number 4 fantasy QB in standard-scoring leagues. Another top-5 finish could be in the cards once again for the talented young QB. But be careful. He's also one of the guys we feel could very likely be overvalued this year.

MIA - TE Jordan Cameron excited about new coach

    Source: ESPN.com - James Walker

Miami Dolphins TE Jordan Cameron said he is excited to play for head coach Adam Gase because he has had success with tight ends in the past.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We are super excited about the Dolphins offense under the guiding hand of Gase. He has a high-powered offense that has put up great fantasy numbers for both the Broncos and the Bears. With Gase calling the shots, we expect better numbers from Cameron--so long as he can stay healthy. Cameron is built a lot like Julius Thomas...and it was Thomas who became a top-5 fantasy TE under Gase with the Broncos in 2013. Like Thomas, Cameron is a former basketball star who transitioned to play one year of college football. While Thomas has shined (when healthy), we have yet to see Cameron truly play up to his enormous potential. He could easily outperform his current ADP of TE18 (13.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NYJ - Muhammed Wilkerson likely won't be extended

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson is unlikely to receive a long-term contract extension from the team due to the presence of DE Sheldon Richardson and DL Leonard Williams. Barring a radical concession from the team or Wilkerson's camp, beat writer Manish Mehta predicts there will be no multi-year contract extension.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zero surprise here. This entire season there has been no indication from the Jets side that they wanted to sign Wilkerson long term.

JAX - Dante Fowler impressing coaches

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Hays Carlyon

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler (knee) has impressed defensive coordinator Todd Wash with his explosiveness even though he is still limited because of his surgically repaired knee. 'He's more explosive than I thought he was to be honest with you. We're very excited about it. We're trying to limit him as much as we can, giving him a couple reps per series when he goes out. We're very excited about what he's doing and how he's coming along.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jaguars have revamped their defense this offseason. Getting Fowler back on the field after he missed his entire rookie season will boost them even further.

BAL - TE Crockett Gillmore limited in OTAs

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Ryan Mink

Baltimore Ravens TE Crockett Gillmore (shoulders) ran routes and did individual work during the first week of organized team activities. He didn't do full-team drills. He also dropped 15 pounds in the offseason and is in camp at 260 pounds.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Ravens have an interesting collection of TEs on the roster. Gillmore is going to compete with free agent addition Ben Watson and second-year pro Maxx Williams for snaps. The trio may end up becoming a TEBC for the Ravens, and that hurts the fantasy value of all three.
