Saturday Update:
CAR - DE Jared Allen to start Sunday
Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person
Carolina Panthers DE Jared Allen (foot) will start Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, Feb. 7, according to head coach Ron Rivera, after sitting out the NFC Championship Game.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Allen has a chance to get a ring in his first Super Bowl, and late in his career. The Panthers have needed him after suffering multiple injuries at defensive end. He'll get a chance to set his sights on Peyton Manning.

DEN - WR Emmanuel Sanders won't face CB Josh Norman
Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler
Carolina Panthers CB Josh Norman said he doesn't expect to line up at all against Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders in Super Bowl 50. Norman is expected to cover Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas instead.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Thomas is a better matchup for Norman because of his uncanny ability to win at the catch point. Thomas has been struggling with drops lately, and Norman's disruption and true plays on the ball in flight will make it even harder to contend. Sanders is better at running crisp routes and creating separation, and he's likely to be the cornerstone of the Broncos passing offense on Sunday.

CAR - OLB Thomas Davis expected to start
Source: NFL.com - Andie Hagemann
Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (forearm) is expected to start in Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos, according to head coach Ron Rivera. 'Yes, yes I do (expect Davis to start) based on everything I'm seeing from him right now and what the doctors have talked about -- they talk about him every day and we go over everything he's done and what they're seeing. That's been a huge plus.' Rivera said. 'He actually took a shot in the arm yesterday and said 'I'm fine. That felt pretty good.''
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Davis has overcome three ACL tears. Whatever limitations this injury puts on his abilities should be balanced out by the intensity of the moment and medicine/equipment to allow Davis to operate the way he normally would on the field.

NFL - Carson Wentz a risky prospect?
Source: NFL.com - Chase Goodbread
North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz impressed many at Senior Bowl practices last week, but some NFL personnel executives are hesitant to label him a top quarterback prospect entering the 2016 NFL Draft. 'One said 'Boy, that North Dakota State kid is way overrated.' And the other one texted me and said 'After watching him for a full week, there is no way I would draft Carson Wentz in the first round,'' NFL media analyst Lance Zierlein said on.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Wentz's small school pedigree could keep him from being classified as a first-round worthy "franchise QB" pick, but Joe Flacco overcame the same label to go in the first round and go on to win a Super Bowl. Wentz shouldn't last past the early second round in any event. His meetings with teams and combine performance could give him an extra nudge up the board. Quarterbacks are hard to gauge in the first round because of the supply and demand issue, and both of Zierlein's sources could easily be teams that don't need a quarterback, or a team in the back half of the first that hopes he'll fall to them.

MIA - Tannehill most-sacked QB since 2012
Source: Palm Beach Post - Andrew Abramson
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill was sacked 45 times in 2015 and has absorbed 184 over his four-year career, the most in the NFL over that time.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Dolphins offensive line has actually been trending in the right direction in limiting sacks even though it is still a problem. New head coach Adam Gase is tasked with finding a combination and scheme that works to unlock Tannehill's abilities. A full year from first-round pick DeVante Parker should help.

CAR - QB Cam Newton good in play action
Source: ESPN Stats and Information
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton had nine touchdowns on play-action passes this year, which was second to only New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (10). The Denver Broncos allowed just 87 play-action pass attempts this year (second-fewest), 54% completion percentage on those plays (ranked second) and just two touchdowns (tied for second-fewest).
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Broncos are tough to establish the run against, so play action doesn't exactly work the same against them as it would against less stout run defense. The Panthers have the advantage of Cam Newton's running ability giving the front seven something to think about on every running play, so they could be more off balance on Sunday.

NO - CB Brandon Browner to be released
Source: ESPN.com
Updating a previous item, New Orleans Saints CB Brandon Browner will be released by the team, according to sources. By league rules the Saints can't cut him until after the Super Bowl. Browner will cost $6.3 million against the salary cap in 2016 and is due $5 million in salary and bonuses, including $2.75 million fully guaranteed. New Orleans will save $950,000 in cap space and $2.25 million in cash if they wait until after March 9 to release him. Browner was flagged for 24 penalties (21 accepted) this year, which was the most by any player in a season since at least 2001.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Browner was maybe the signature player in a pass defense that threatened to break records for futility in 2015. The Saints defense has a long way to go to get back to respectability when they improve by releasing high dollar signings.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch likely done in Seattle
Source: KJR Radio
Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch is unlikely to return to the Seahawks in 2016, according to NFL Network commentator Michael Robinson. Robinson, who is close friends with Lynch, said he knew what Lynch's intentions were regarding retirement, but he wasn't at liberty to say. 'It's fair to assume (his days in Seattle are over,)' Robinson said.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Lynch is exactly the kind of player who goes out on his own terms. He could still be viable in a smaller role a la Steven Jackson, but look for Lynch to retire and continue to have fun instead of limping into the sunset. Thomas Rawls should enter the 2016 season as the lead back in Seattle and garner lots of attention in fantasy drafts next year.

STL - RB Todd Gurley's foot OK
Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner
Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (foot) said all is well with his foot Friday, Feb. 5, and he's doing offseason training in Los Angeles.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Gurley greatly exceeded expectations in 2015 after returning to the field less than a year after he tore his ACL. The Rams passing game was absolutely putrid and Gurley was still a major difference maker in fantasy leagues. Any incremental improvement could turn him into a truly elite fantasy running back capable of winning any week for you on his own.

JAX - WR Allen Hurns feeling better
Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns (abdomen) is feeling better after surgery to repair a sports hernia he sustained in Week 3. 'It's been two weeks now,' Hurns said. 'The first week was real tough, real sore. It was tough to do anything as far as yawning, sneezing, coughing - all of that. Right now, I'm moving around a lot better.'
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Hurns showed some true grit playing through multiple injuries this year, and producing well in the process. He'll be in Allen Robinson's shadow in 2016 drafts, but there's evidence that Hurns could be much better than he was in 2015 if he can remain injury-free.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning changing teams?
Source: CBSSports.com - John Breech
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning knows he likely won't be back with the Broncos if he decides to play in 2016, according to Archie Manning.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Manning could land in Los Angeles with the Rams or perhaps the Browns if he does decide to play, but the poetic justice of ending his career with a Super Bowl start and the steep decline in his play this year likely means Sunday will be his last in the NFL as a player. The Broncos could still re-sign Brock Osweiler despite turning away from him in the playoffs.
