NFL Player News - Week of August 31st

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

GB - WR Randall Cobb has AC joint sprain
    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport
Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (shoulder) has been diagnosed with an AC joint sprain, after undergoing further tests Sunday, Aug. 30, according to a source. He suffered the injury in a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles Saturday, Aug. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's unclear whether Cobb will miss Week 1. Our Dr. Jene Bramel says "Excellent news. Good chance to play W1. Pain tolerance and range of motion will be keys."

CLE - RB Duke Johnson suffers concussion

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson (concussion) suffered a concussion during the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29. He is not expected to play in the final preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns have said they may sign a veteran running back with Johnson banged up and Shaun Draughn also injured right now. They are one of the few teams that didn't immediately shut down any notion of signing Ray Rice. Pierre Thomas is also still out there.

STL - RB Tre Mason suffers injury

    Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) suffered a mild hamstring strain during the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29. He is not expected to play in the final preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matt Waldman favorite Malcolm Brown could make the team and even see significant action Week 1 against Seattle if Mason doesn't heal quickly or suffers a setback. This is Mason's second hamstring issue so far this year, so "mild" might be a relative term. Deep dynasty leaguers should take notice.

DET - RB Joique Bell progressing nicely

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (knee, Achilles') has ramped up his return-to-play workouts in recent weeks and said he is 'getting close.' Head coach Jim Caldwell said Bell looks in good shape and hinted the running back will be ready for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no way that this was the plan when Bell had achilles and knee surgery in January unless the achilles surgery was more serious than indicated or Bell had microfracture knee surgery. Either way, Bell is in danger of a steep decline this year. Keep Zach Zenner on your waiver wire speed dial or end of your bench in deep leagues.

CLE - QB Johnny Manziel's timetable unclear

    Source: ESPN.com - Jason Gibbs

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel's status for the week leading up to the preseason finale against the Chicago Bears remains unclear, head coach Mike Pettine said Sunday, Aug. 30. 'I'll get the medical update today, just see what their plan is for him, when to start throwing again,' Pettine said. 'Given that the MRI was negative, we think rest will be the answer. To me, there's no need to think beyond that until we get to that point, and if it looks like it is more than that, then we'll address it appropriately.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns would like to get some more tape on Manziel, but they don't to risk his season status. He is one of the best bets among backup quarterbacks to get a start this year.

CLE - WR Terrelle Pryor may play

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Terrelle Pryor (hamstring) has a chance to play in the final preseason game, according to head coach Mike Pettine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

By most accounts, Pryor is going to have to play to make the team. If Pryor gets cut, it will be interesting to see if anyone claims him because his size/speed/athleticism combination is rare and he seemed like a natural wide receiver before hurting his hamstring.

NYJ - DE Leonard Williams to undergo MRI

    Source: The Associated Press

New York Jets DE Leonard Williams (knee) suffered a knee injury during the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29, and is scheduled to undergo an MRI Sunday, Aug. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There is optimism that the injury is only a bone bruise and Mo Wilkerson said Williams told him he is okay. If the Jets are without Williams and Sheldon Richardson to open the season, Cleveland's matchup in Week 1 gets a lot easier.

ATL - TE Tony Moeaki sidelined

    Source: The Associated Press

Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Moeaki (thigh) suffered a thigh injury during the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moeaki has never been able to stay healthy for long. If there's a surprise hit at tight end in this offense, it'll be Jacob Tamme.

CHI - CB Tim Jennings released by Chicago

    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

The Chicago Bears have released CB Tim Jennings Sunday, Aug. 30, according to a source informed of the team's plans.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

At one point, Jennings was a ballhawking corner making a fearsome cover 2 duo with Charles Tillman. Lovie Smith is gone, the Bears defense has switched to a 3-4 scheme, and Jennings is now looking for work.

What's the deal with that. My son got an alert on his phone( some sports app) saying a decision was near, next day or two. Don't know if it's the judge or they made an arrangement???

I think you have to be moving Davante Adams up your draft board.

Neither side will budge. This judge will rule one way or the other, but the losing side will appeal and it keeps going.

    Tuesday Update

KC - TE Travis Kelce leaves practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (leg) left practice early Monday, Aug. 31, because of a right leg injury. Kelce was able to walk off the field but did not return to practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport posted on this Twitter feed Monday evening,"Sounds like he rolled his ankle. Should be OK." Stay tuned but that sounds optimistic.

JAX - TE Julius Thomas expected to miss 4-5 weeks

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (finger) is expected to need surgery on a tendon in his finger and is expected to be out four to five weeks, according to a source. Thomas will receive a second opinion on his finger Tuesday, Sept. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas is incredibly talented, but he's injury prone and has never played a full 16-game season during his four-year pro career. Entering year five (and his first year with the Jagaurs), Thomas will miss more time. Marcedes Lewis and Clay Harbor will cover the TE spot if Thomas is out. We like what we've seen from Lewis.

WAS - Jay Gruden confirms QB Kirk Cousins starting

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating an earlier report, Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will be the starting quarterback moving forward, according to head coach Jay Gruden. Gruden said 'it's Kirk's team.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There you have it. The Robert Griffin III era looks like it could be over in Washington. They're moving forward with Cousins, but nothing is set in Washington as this team has more dysfunction than most.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton sitting out Monday

Source: FOX 59 Indianapolis - Mike Chappell

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton is out of practice Monday, Aug. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hilton is in the league's concussion protocol. He won't be back on the field until he's been cleared. Hilton's status for Week 1 of the regular season is a bit up in the air. Stay tuned.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor named starter in Buffalo

    Source: FOXSports.com - Jay Glazer

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor was named the starting quarterback Monday, Aug. 31, over QB Matt Cassel an QB EJ Manuel.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We shouldn't be surprised by this....and fantasy owners should be somewhat excited about the prospects. Taylor is super athletic, and that could help open things up for LeSean McCoy if this team starts doing some option plays to keep defenses honest. He's got a rocket arm, but Taylor needs to improve his accuracy as a passer. Cassel and Manuel were not exciting options, but Taylor will be quite interesting to see develop.

BUF - RB Fred Jackson released

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson was released Monday, Aug. 31. He was slated to make $2.35 million this year and wasn't asked to take a pay cut.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There have been rumblings that Jackson could be off the team earlier this year. Jackson can still play at the NFL level, and teams like Dallas, Arizona or New England could show interest in the veteran back. The Bills could move forward with rookie Karlos Williams as the primary backup behind LeSean McCoy.

NE - QB Tom Brady hearing over, decision looming

    Source: FOXSports.com - Mike Garafolo

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady will not have a settlement with the NFL on his four-game suspension. The judge is expected to rule in the next couple of days.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thank goodness. We just want to get this "DeflateGate" business in the rear-view mirror. There's a good chance that Brady sees no suspension....stay tuned.

CAR - WR Devin Funchess exits early

Source: Charlotte Observer - Jonathan Jones

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess (hamstring) left practice Monday, Aug. 31, with hamstring tightness.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers need to be incredibly cautious here. Funchess is set to be the team's WR1 now that Kelvin Benjamin has been lost for the year.

OAK - Oakland releases RB Trent Richardson

    Source: ESPN.com - Bill Williamson

Oakland Raiders RB Trent Richardson was released Monday, Aug. 31, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Richardson has to go down as one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history. He was the third-overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft, and now he's going to be looking for his fourth different team. Richardson was beat out because rookie Michael Dyer was outperforming him in training camp.

BUF - WR Percy Harvin takes part in practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills WR Percy Harvin (hip) participated in team drills during practice Monday, Aug. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Now that we know Tyrod Taylor is going to be the starting quarterback, it will be interesting to note who his favorite receivers are. Harvin makes for a nice option because he should run shorter routes and getting him the ball should be an easier throw.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins practices

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (glute) participated in team drills during practice Monday, Aug. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins is back in action today, and the team will get him ready for the Week 1 opener. With Tyrod Taylor named the starting quarterback, we're actually a little more excited about this offense. Watkins has a current ADP of WR28 (6.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DET - RB Joique Bell practices

    Source: DetroitLions.com

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (knee, Achilles') was a limited participant in practice and took repetitions with the first-team offense Monday, Aug. 31, after being activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team has said more than once that Bell is going to be their lead back when healthy. Well, he's getting healthier and was finally able to practice with the team. It will be interesting to see if Bell can beat out rookie Ameer Abdullah for the top spot.

DAL - Dallas not pursuing RB Fred Jackson?

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Free-agent RB Fred Jackson (Bills) probably won't be pursued by the Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPNDallas.com's Todd Archer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's.....odd. The Cowboys don't have a back that is really standing out this preseason, and a veteran like Jackson could help.

CAR - WR Kevin Norwood acquired

    Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

Seattle Seahawks WR Kevin Norwood was traded to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a conditional draft pick, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a move that could help the Panthers. Norwood is a quick possession receiver with the hands and concentration to become a favorite target for Cam Newton. He'll first prove himself as a special teams player with the Panthers.

PIT - PK Garrett Hartley placed on IR

    Source: Steelers.com

Pittsburgh Steelers PK Garrett Hartley (hamstring) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Aug. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's two Steelers kickers out for the year for those at home keeping track. The Steelers expected this, so they went out and acquired Josh Scobee on Monday. He'll now be the kicker for Pittsburgh, and he's fantasy relevant because of the high-powered Steelers offense.

PIT - WR Martavis Bryant's appeal denied

    Source: Steelers.com - Bob Labriola

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant's appeal of his suspension has been denied, and he will sit out the first four games of the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners proceed as expected here. We've seen Markus Wheaton beat out Bryant so far in the offseason, and now Wheaton is locked in as the team's WR2 opposite Antonio Brown. Bryant can make an impact as a deep receiver when he returns. In shallow leagues, make sure to keep him on the waiver-wire speed dial.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker practices

Source: The Palm Beach Post - Andrew Abramson

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can't wait to see what Parker can do when at full strength. He expects to be limited to individual drills for the time being. His status for Week 1 is uncertain at this point.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson sitting out

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson (concussion) is not participating in practice Monday, Aug. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson has talent as a change-of-pace back, and he's a player worth adding in deeper leagues. Dynasty owners should already be all over the rookie runner. Johnson will go through the league's concussion protocol as he deals with this injury.

NE - Pats could pursue RB Fred Jackson

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

Free-agent RB Fred Jackson (Bills) could receive interest from the New England Patriots as a possible pass-catching running back, in the opinion of Mike Reiss, of ESPNBoston.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That sounds exactly like something the Patriots would do. Jackson can still play at the pro level, and he's a good all-purpose back who could provide any team with quality veteran depth. It's not outlandish to think that Jackson can still start for certain teams in the NFL.

DET - Tim Wright headed to Detroit

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Tim Wright was acquired by the Detroit Lions Monday, Aug. 31, according to a source.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Lions were concerned with Joseph Fauria's ability to stay healthy, so they had to make a move. Brandon Pettigrew and Eric Ebron are locks as the top two tight ends for the Lions. Wright and Fauria could compete for one final roster spot at the position.

    Thursday Update

GB - WR Randall Cobb expects to be ready

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (shoulder) thinks his sprained right shoulder will be good to go to play in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears in 12 days. 'I don't plan on missing a game,' Cobb said. 'I'm doing everything in my power to get back before then.' However, there remains swelling in his shoulder, but he said he's doing much better than when he was injured in the preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles Saturday, Aug. 29. Cobb did not practice Tuesday, Sept. 1, but watched from the sidelines.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

You hear that sound? That's a massive collection of Packers fans and fantasy owners breathing a collective sigh of relief. So long as there aren't any setbacks with this shoulder injury, Cobb should play Week 1 where he should be able to post WR1 numbers.

STL - RB Tre Mason not practicing

Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch - Jim Thomas

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) is not practicing Tuesday, Sept. 1, with a strained hamstring.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Todd Gurley is lurking and that has hampered Mason's value, limiting him to an RB5/RB6. Gurley is a solid RB3 (with RB1 uspide) when he is at full strength.

You have to assume that this could be the end of his time with the Jets, as nobody on the coaching staff or front office have any real attachment to him and head coach Todd Bowles was vocally disappointed with his lack of improvement. Amaro should be a good move tight end, but he has struggled with focus and drops. Jeff Cumberland will get starts, but he's no more than a low-end TE3.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton limited

    Source: Colts.com - Kevin Bowen

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (head) is in a red, non-contact jersey in practice Tuesday, Sept. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hilton will be fine for Week 1, which is really the biggest issue. Of course, one concussion can be followed by another, so we are concerned with that, but not enough to drop him from being a borderline WR1/2.

NE - QB Tom Brady decision coming this week

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots QB Tom Brady will know his fate by the end of this week. Judge Richard Berman said he will issue his decision and order by that time.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thank you Lord, we've been waiting for this.

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman has active practice

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman was the most active in practice Monday, Aug. 31, that he was been since a hamstring injury Aug. 6. It's unclear whether he'll play in the final preseason game this week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no real clarity in the Atlanta Falcons backfield. Both Freeman and Tevin Coleman are ranked as an RB3, though Coleman is trending at an ADP two full rounds before Freeman (7.11 versus 9.08) so in many ways the value is a pick'em. With that offensive line, either guy has tough sledding ahead of him. We give Coleman the edge, but it's pretty thin.

JAX - TE Clay Harbor to have bigger role

    Source: NFL.com - Dan Hanzus

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Clay Harbor will take on a bigger role in the offense with TE Julius Thomas (finger) set to miss up to a month of action to start the year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

While he will see some more work, we still think Marcedes Lewis will see a greater amount. Neither one is going to put up close to the numbers Thomas would have and he'll be back soon enough to warrant not bothering with either. Mewis might work as a TE3 but Harbor is unlikely to move the needle at all.

NO - WR Brandon Coleman praised by QB

    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman has developed comfortability with QB Drew Brees. Brees said he is pleased with the training camp and preseason Coleman has had.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This might be a guy to keep an eye on, especially with his size and the absence of Jimmy Graham. Could he become a red zone threat? We have him rated as a WR6 but he has some upside to pay attention to.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown receives bonus

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown received a $2 million signing bonus as part of the restructured contracts of Brown, TE Heath Miller and PK Shaun Suisham, according to sources. Brown's salary increased to $8 million from $6 million.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That will certainly help him get over having to restructure his contract already. The Steelers will hopefully use that cap money wisely, and help put the defense back together. Brown should be content which means his status as a WR1 in fantasy remains secure.

CLE - QB Johnny Manziel doesn't need surgery

    Source: ESPN.com

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (elbow) said he does not need surgery on his sore elbow. The Browns also consulted with Dr. James Andrew for a second opinion on the elbow. Manziel said he needs to ice it and should be able to throw again next week. He added that he doesn't think the sore elbow will be a problem during the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Browns here. Manziel has been bothered off and on by this elbow since his high school days. The team has said this isn't a serious issue before, and no surgery required means it will come down to soreness/pain management.

Nice. Liked Taylor in college. Will be interested in seeing if he gets happy feet in pocket.

I think the Pats could give Fred Jackson a short ressurection. Watch to see if they get him and pick him up cheap

    Thursday Update

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy could limited in Week 1

    Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

Updating an earlier report, Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) may not be in great 'football shape' once Week 1 rolls around, according to a source. He's not at full speed in practice but is doing rehab work including light footwork, agility and cardio conditioning. A source told ESPN's Josina Anderson McCoy's MRI showed, what was described internally as, a 'small tear,' adding: 'They say it tore in a spot where it couldn't have been any better for us. It tore in a spot that is kind of high up, surrounded by stronger muscles in the glutes and things like that.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills could ease McCoy into action at the start of the season. Fantasy owners need to watch this situation closely before plugging McCoy into their Week 1 lineup.

NE - No talks between QB Tom Brady, league

Source: NFL Network - Albert Breer

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady doesn't look like he'll reach a settlement with the NFL. The league and the NFL Player's Associated have not had any talks regarding a settlement since Monday, Aug. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We look at DeflateGate like we do Nickelback. We don't want to hear it, and we just hope it would stop. Hopefully, we get an answer later this week.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz doubtful for Week 1

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Dan Graziano

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is doubtful to play Week 1, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Dan Graziano. Cruz has not yet been cleared to practice and did not participate in the preseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things change quickly around here. Cruz was on track and recovering well from the knee injury he had last year, then this calf injury knocked him off course. Now, he's likely to miss the first game of the season. He'll be eased in once he's healthy enough to practice.

DAL - RB Joseph Randle could have 10-15 carries

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Drew Davison

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle could have 10-15 carries per game with RB Darren McFadden slightly below that, in the opinion of beat writer Drew Davison.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wow. This Cowboys RB situation isn't as enticing for fantasy owners as some had thought it would be entering this season. No Dallas RB has impressed over the course of the preseason, and we wouldn't be surprised to see them scour the free agent market looking for help. Consider Randle a RB3 right now, which makes his current ADP of 4.06 in 12-team PPR higher than we'd take him. In that same ballpark, we prefer players like Doug Martin, Ameer Abdullah and Andre Ellington.

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman expected to sit

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (hamstring) is expected to miss the final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 3, but has not been ruled out at this point.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Freeman is competing with rookie Tevin Coleman for the starting running back spot. We appreciate both talents, but the O-Line in Atlanta leaves a lot to be desired. Consider both backs RB3s with upside for your fantasy team.

MIA - RB Lamar Miller due for big year?

    Source: NFL

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller's carries, rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, targets, receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns have each increased over the last three seasons.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're excited about the upside of Miller this year. He's a RB2 with RB1 upside who you can get in the third round of your fantasy draft. Miller is in a contract year, and he added muscle to his frame in order to take on a larger role.

ARI - WR Michael Floyd catching passes

    Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd (hand) has started to catch passes as part of his recovery.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to be dialed in here. Floyd said he is not sure when he will be able to return to practice. In the meantime, we'll see John Brown as Floyd's replacement. Brown is a nice wide receiver you can pick up in the sixth or seventh round of your draft.

ATL - WR Roddy White may work out next week

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White (elbow) is expected to participate in some activities next week with a pad on his surgically repaired elbow.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners know the deal with White. If he practices during the week, he'll be good to go as a flex starter for the game.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning wants to keep playing
Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning said he'd like to play next season, adding that he feels good and feels that he can still help and contribute.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Don't be surprised to see Manning back in action next year. He looks healthier than ever now, but he'll need to stay healthy as the season goes on.

Falcons need to find a 2nd receiver to play opposite Julio. White is a walking injury report who has lost 3-4 steps.

Manning may play next season but it won't be in Denver.

Did you actually believe Brady was going to miss any games in 2015 due to the suspension?
