NFL Player News - Week of July 27th

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

PIT - WR Antonio Brown ends hold out speculation

    Source: NFL.com - Gilberto Manzano

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown ended speculation that he may hold out when he showed up for the first day of training camp Saturday, July 25. 'Hold outs never go well,' said Brown. 'Just look at history. It always ends badly. It wouldn't be the best decision. I make a lot of money. I pull up to camp in Rolls-Royces.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With a cap hit over $9.7 million this season, Brown is underpaid compared to his talent level--and there's no question he's outplayed his current contract. We could see the Steelers renegotiate his deal at some point in the future, but there's no holdout for Brown this year.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell looks explosive

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell looked explosive during the first day of training camp Sunday, July 26, and he said he is in the best shape of his life.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no word on Bell's three-game suspension right now. Even if he ends up having to serve all three games, fantasy owners should be taking him off the board within the first five picks of every fantasy draft out there.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger feels good

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said he is in great shape and that his arm feels great. He believes the offense can be even better than it was in 2014.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for Roethlisberger, the Steelers and fantasy owners here. It seems like OC Todd Haley has found the best ways to utilize Roethlisberger within his offense. Last year, Roethlisberger ranked as the 6th-best fantasy quarterback. This year, he should once again put in a top-10 season for fantasy owners.

CIN - Cincy discussing new deal with WR A.J. Green

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green is talking with the Bengals about a possible contract extension, according to sources. The team sees signing Green to an extension as their top priority.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green (just like Julio Jones) should get a contract similar to what both Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant received earlier this year. The Bengals need an explosive playmaker like Green on offense, and we can't imagine them letting him slip away on the open market.

OAK - WR Amari Cooper praised by Tim Brown

    Source: RaiderBeat.com - Paul Wexler

Oakland Raiders WR Amari Cooper was praised by retired WR Tim Brown. 'This guy is just a superb, great receiver,' Brown said. 'He's going to be dominant Day 1.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cooper was our favorite receiver in this year's draft class. Think of Marvin Harrison with more size when you think of Cooper. He can run crisp routes, set up defenders and get separation on most every play. After the catch, Cooper is incredibly athletic and dangerous in the open field. Cooper has the ability to be a top-5 receiver in the NFL someday. This year, Cooper should provide fantasy owners with a WR3 with upside.

PIT - WR Martavis Bryant should up snap count

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Anthony

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant played an average of just 29% of offensive snaps in 2014, but he is expected to serve as the primary No. 2 receiver on the outside in 2015 with WR Markus Wheaton moving to more of a slot role.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're excited to see what Bryant can do after splashing onto the scene last year as a part-time player. As a rookie, Bryant didn't get going until Week 7 but he made an impact when he was on the field. His yards per catch (21.1) ranked 1st in the NFL along with his longest catch (94 yards) also ranking at the top in the league. Bryant's 18.04 air yards per target ranked 1st in the NFL. He's a WR3 with upside for fantasy owners this year.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins' production deceiving

    Source: NFL.com - Matt Harmon

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins recorded 53.3% of his receiving yards and four of his six touchdowns in four games last year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is an important note for fantasy owners expecting a huge second-year breakout for Watkins. Yes, he's incredibly talented but the quarterback situation in Buffalo could hold him down. The nature of the run-heavy offense under Rex Ryan could also limit the production for those in the passing game. His current ADP is WR26 (5.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIN - WR Mike Wallace impresses at camp

    Source: SI.com - Peter King

Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace was impressive during training camp Sunday, July 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wallace never played up to his potential (or his paycheck) during his time with the Dolphins. All reports this offseason seem to indicate that he and second-year QB Teddy Bridgewater are putting on a helluva show. If the connection comes through for fantasy owners, Wallace could outperform his current ADP of WR35 (7.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

PIT - RB DeAngelo Williams busy as backup

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams said he 'absolutely' received enough work as the backup during the first day of training camp Sunday, July 26, and he expects to be ready to start Week 1 if RB Le'Veon Bell is suspended.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bell currently is on the books for a three-game suspension. That could be reduced, but we do not think the suspension will be completely eliminated. That means Williams is likely to start at least one game when the regular season kicks off. He's a capable veteran who could perform like a RB2 in PPR leagues while Bell is out.

BUF - WR Percy Harvin struggling with routes

Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci

Buffalo Bills WR Percy Harvin required detailed instruction on how to run routes during OTAs, and Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News believes Harvin will open the year as the No. 3 receiver behind WR Sammy Watkins and WR Robert Woods.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not shocked. Harvin lacks discipline to his game. Yes, he's electric and explosive with the ball in his hands, but being a great pro goes far beyond that. We'll see if Harvin can improve during camp, but we have our reservations. In a run-heavy offense, fantasy owners shouldn't be adding Harvin to the wish list during their drafts.

actually i would place the blame on ex gm ireland for paying stupid money to a wr when his team didn't have a qb on the roster who can play in the nfl.

    tannehill sucks.

    Tuesday Update

NE - QB Tom Brady's case may be settled

    Source: FOXSports.com - Mike Garafolo

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady's appeal of his four-game suspension still has not been announced, and the NFL is now open to talking with the NFL Players Association about a possible settlement in the case, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brady is not expected to accept any suspension in a settlement with the NFL but is willing to accept a fine. If any suspension stands, then expect legal action from Brady's camp. Hopefully, we get an answer (and an end) to this soon.

SEA - QB Russell Wilson's contract being negotiated

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and his representatives have issues with the guaranteed money involved in his current offer. Still, Wilson hasn't turned the deal down yet. If both sides don't agree to a new deal soon, Wilson and the Seahawks will have to wait until after the season to try to get a deal done.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If things reach that point, expect the Seahawks to use the franchise tag on Wilson. They've built a Super Bowl contender with Wilson making peanuts. Now, they'll have to pay what he's worth. We can't imagine Wilson going to another team in the near future.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson thinks he can play a while

    Source: SI.com - Peter King

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he believes he can play in the NFL at a high level until he's 36 or 37 years old.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If anyone could do it, it's Adrian Peterson. Coming back from a missed season at 30-years old, Peterson could easily rush for 1,500 yards or more in 2015. They could use him quite a bit as a receiver out of the backfield this year, and Peterson should be a top-5 running back in every fantasy draft out there.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson can perform immediately

Source: Canton Repository - Steve Doerschuk

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson has the ability to step in and perform at a high level right away, according to head coach Mike Pettine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Running backs can transition to the pro game a lot quicker than other positions. Johnson is a fantastic receiver out of the backfield, and he's a dangerous weapon in open space. We should see Isaiah Crowell as the hammer for the Browns with Johnson working as a change-of-pace back. His current ADP is RB39 (8.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

TB - RB Doug Martin expected to bounce back

Source: The Tampa Tribune - Roy Cummings

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin could be in line for a big, bounce-back year, in the opinion of beat writer Roy Cummings.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Martin's breakout rookie season of 2012 is a distant memory. Over the past two seasons, injuries and ineffectiveness have plagued his performance. We'll be watching Martin closely in the preseason to see if that upside is back. At this time, fantasy owners should consider Martin a risky RB3 to add. Charles Sims has been getting a lot of hype this offseason, and he could take over as the starter if Martin struggles early.

JAX - Game slowing for QB Blake Bortles

    Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said the difference is 'night and day' in his readiness between this year and last. He said his head is no longer spinning at the game's pace.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's a good sign for the second-year quarterback. We like the weapons around him at the wide receiver position like Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns. Adding a star tight end like Julius Thomas in free agency is also a boost. The Jaguars need to do a better job of protecting Bortles as he was the most sacked QB in the league last year. He's a QB3 worth stashing in dynasty leagues.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins' targets to decline?

    Source: NFL.com - Matt Harmon

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins was targeted 128 times last year, but only one receiver has been targeted more than 110 times in a season for head coach Rex Ryan.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can't see Ryan increasing that number this season...even with a gifted wide receiver like Watkins on his roster. Fantasy owners should consider Watkins a low-end WR2 in PPR leagues. If you can snare him as your WR3, then even better. Nobody doubts his talent, but the nature of the offense is to run early and often--plus, the quarterback situation is bleak. That's why Watkins should go off the board around WR24 and not sooner.

PIT - WR Markus Wheaton has solid offseason

Source: NFL Network - Albert Breer

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton is believed to have performed the best among the wide receivers during offseason workouts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep this in mind when considering Wheaton--or even Martavis Bryant. We should see Bryant as the WR2 opposite Antonio Brown this year, but Wheaton might cut into his targets. Wheaton was an excellent route-runner coming out of college, and he could work well as the team's slot receiver. Wheaton's 12.73 air yards per target was tied with Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green for 20th-best in the league--12th best for receivers with 50 or more catches. Keep him on your waiver-wire speed dial.

HOU - OLB Jadeveon Clowney placed on PUP

    Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney (knee) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This should come as no surprise. Clowney is reportedly walking without a limp, but he's still recovering from the microfracture surgery on his knee that ended his rookie season. His status for Week 1 is unknown, but it's possible he could miss the first six weeks of the regular season on the PUP list too.

NFL - RB Chris Johnson ready to play again

Source: Yahoo! Sports - Rand Getlin

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) said he's feeling explosive, healthy and is ready to play again.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson may be ready to play now, but will there be a team willing to sign him at this point in his career? Many people are trying to make a connection to the Dallas Cowboys, but they seem content with the backs they already have in place. It might take injuries at the position to open a spot for Johnson.

    CAR - Jonathan Martin retiring

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Carolina Panthers OT Jonathan Martin (back) has chosen to retire. Martin will need surgery on his injured back.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Martin was at the center of the bullying scandal when he was with the Dolphins, but he played for the 49ers last year. The Panthers had picked him up earlier this year, and Martin played mostly as a backup at left tackle behind Michael Oher in offseason workouts. Martin chose to retire rather than undergo back surgery that would have likely caused him to miss the entire 2015 season.

I'd let Harvin to focus on KR. Give him some easier plays as #3 WR and keep him healthy.

Harvin needs to go to a team with a solid qb and become a slot wr. Pats would've been a far better fit for him.

What harvin needs to do is learn how to play his damn position, enough with the excuses. He had Wilson as a qb and was still a bum

I kinda like Wallace as a flex or something this year, he'll do better with norv and teddy. He scored 10 times last year, not sure I see that repeating however.

    Wednesday Update

STL - RB Todd Gurley passes conditioning test

Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch - Jim Thomas

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) passed his conditioning test Tuesday, July 24. He will start training camp on the active roster.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie from Georgia has the potential to be one of the best in the game. Gurley may be eased into action at the start of the regular season, and he may begin the year as a backup behind Tre Mason. We expect at some point this year, Gurley will be able to take over as the featured back.

    PIT - Le'Veon Bell's suspension reduced

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Jarrett Bell

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's original three-game suspension has been reduced to a two-game suspension Tuesday, July 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Steelers and fantasy owners here. While Bell is out, DeAngelo Williams will be the team's starter and a RB2 for fantasy. Bell should be a no-brainer top-3 pick in most every fantasy draft out there.

NE - QB Tom Brady taking appeal to court

    Source: ESPN.com - Jim Trotter

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has given permission to the NFL Players Association to appeal his case in federal court, according to a source. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell upheld Brady's four-game suspension for his involvement in deflating footballs in last year's postseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This story isn't going away anytime soon. Brady gets four games, and any decision from a federal court may not come in time for that to change. Stay tuned.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson won't be limited

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Tom Pelissero

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson will still receive a heavy workload this season, according to head coach Mike Zimmer. Zimmer said Peterson will be given as much as he can take.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peterson could rush for over 1,500 yards this year, and he may go over 2,000 all-purpose yards in 2015. Fantasy owners should look at him as a top-5 fantasy running back even though he's coming off a mostly missed season in 2014.

PIT - RB DeAngelo Williams unsure of workload

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams isn't sure how often he'll be used in training camp or in the first few games of the season yet. RB Le'Veon Bell's fate is tied to his three-game suspension that lies in limbo. Williams said he'll be ready for whatever he's asked to do.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

While Bell is suspended for two games, we'll see Williams as the lead back. He can easily be a RB2 for fantasy owners during that time.

MIN - RB Matt Asiata out in goal-line situations?

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Tom Pelissero

Minnesota Vikings RB Matt Asiata was a fantastic contributor in goal-line situations, but head coach Mike Zimmer indicated Monday, July 27, that RB Adrian Peterson will be leaned upon in the situations this season. 'Obviously, we're going to have to spell (Peterson) at times like you do a lot of guys. But we get down on the goal line, and we're probably not pulling him out, you know?,' Zimmer said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Asiata is not overly talented, but he has fantasy relevance because of his nose for the end zone. It sounds like he's going to be sitting on the bench when the Vikings get close to pay dirt this season.

TB - QB Jameis Winston will see lots of reps

Source: The Tampa Tribune - Roy Cummings

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston will receive more repetitions than usual for a rookie quarterback in preseason, according to general manager Jason Licht.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good! We're all for Winston getting on the field as much as possible. He ran a pro-style offense in college at Florida State, and Winston has the confidence of an All-Pro. Sure, he's going to take his lumps as a rookie but Winston has great targets around him and he could outperform his current ADP of QB21.

MIN - WR Mike Wallace wants to prove himself again

    Source: 1500ESPN.com - Judd Zulgad

Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace said he definitely has something to prove this year on his new team. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner said the only thing that matters for Wallace is how he performs when he's on the field, not what he says off it. 'If he makes plays, [if] he does the things we want him to do, [if] he works hard in practice, [if] he sets an example in his actions in terms of the way he approaches preparation, then that's leadership,' Turner said. 'What guys say is very meaningless to me. It's obviously what they do.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Another day, and another positive report about Mike Wallace coming out of Minnesota. Wallace just didn't mesh with Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill, but it seems like he and Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater are getting along famously. We'll see if that chemistry translates into on-field production.

MIA - RB Lamar Miller could see more carries

    Source: ESPN.com - James Walker

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller may see an increase in carries in 2015, according to head coach Joe Philbin. 'If he's cranking and he got it 24 times a game and he's healthy and he's fast and he's explosive, it doesn't both me one bit,' Philbin said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller is in the final year of his contract with the Dolphins. The team is going to use him early and often as the lead back for their offense. Fantasy owners should consider Miller a RB2 with upside. He's bulked up this offseason, and we could see Miller rush for 1,000 yards for the second year in a row this season.

MIN - QB Teddy Bridgewater to continue ascent?

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Tom Pelissero

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater is expected to continue to improve, according to head coach Mike Zimmer, who doesn't agree with the opinion of anonymous personnel guys for other teams who are expecting a step back in Year 2. 'I know this kid is a great competitor. The things that he did great in college (and) he did great in the NFL (last) year, were two-minute situations, when the competitive things were there. That's not going to change,' Zimmer said Monday, July 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love Bridgewater. He's smart and accurate, and that's two of the most important traits to look for in a quarterback. We don't care about his skinny ankles and all the other BS (like a bad pro day) critics were bashing him for before the draft. Bridgewater has the arm talent and the desire to be one of the best passers in the league. We're excited to see what he can do this year.

CLE - Johnny Manziel enters camp as No. 2

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel enters training camp as the No. 2 quarterback, although head coach Mike Pettine offered no guarantees Monday, July 27, that QB Josh McCown will be the Week 1 starter. 'The repetitions will (still) be handled that way, with Josh as the one,' Pettine said. 'Now, I wouldn't say I'm guaranteeing today that Josh McCown is going to be the starter against the Jets.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nothing new here. We like what Manziel has done this offseason, and it seems like he finally is on the right track. All of his hard work could translate into better play during training camp and the preseason. If (when?) McCown struggles, Manziel could get his shot.

NYJ - QB Geno Smith won't have long leash

    Source: FOXSports.com

New York Jets QB Geno Smith could be benched if he struggles early in the season, according to head coach Todd Bowles Tuesday, July 28. 'If you feel that his position or any other position is hurting the team, as a head coach, it's up to you to do something about it,' Bowles said about Smith. 'It's not a year-long thing for anybody. You earn your keep by the week. You earn your keep by the day. … If somebody is not doing their job, it’s up to me to rectify the situation,' said Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This should come as no surprise to anyone. Smith might be able to perform better under new OC Chan Gailey. However, if he struggles to produce then this team could go in a different direction. It's certainly worth noting that backup Ryan Fitzpatrick played the best football of his career when he was under offensive coordinator Chan Gailey in Buffalo.

DAL - RB Ryan Williams placed on IR

    Source: NFL

Dallas Cowboys RB Ryan Williams (knee) was placed on Reserve/Injured Tuesday, July 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams was put on Injured Reserve--not released as earlier reports indicated. He just can't get healthy. This is truly a "what might have been" sitaution. Williams was a gifted runner, but his body has betrayed him as a pro and his playing days are likely over.

NO - WR Marques Colston placed on PUP list

Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune - Evan Woodbery

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston (undisclosed) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, July 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Saints are just wisely being cautious with their veteran wide receiver. Many expected his training camp reps to be limited and monitored closely as there's no need to overwork such a seasoned player in camp.

MIN - WR Jarius Wright ready for new role

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Matt Vensel

Minnesota Vikings WR Jarius Wright said he's prepared to see more time in the slot this year. 'I've been outside a lot with the Vikings,' Wright said, 'but I can definitely transfer over and play the slot.' Head coach Mike Zimmer said Wright has already shown he can succeed there. 'The best things that Jarius did were when he was in the slot,' Zimmer said. 'We keep working him outside but we know he has big value for us in the slot, as well.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wright is an explosive player who is fearless when running routes over the middle. He does a good job of creating separation in routes, and Wright has the speed to eat up chunks of yardage quickly. Wright had three games in 2014 where he had over 49 receiving yards (132,123,60), so predicting any sort of a big game out of him is extremely difficult.

NYG - Has WR Victor Cruz increased his speed?

    Source:

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) is supposedly faster now than he was before he tore his patellar tendon last season, according to teammate CB Prince Amukamara. Amukamara said Cruz looked fabulous when they trained together for a day earlier this offseason. Cruz is still recovering from the injury, but he is expected to be ready by training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A faster Cruz would be nothing but a good thing for the Giants...and for fantasy owners. Cruz is coming back from a serious knee injury, and the team wants him to be ready by the start of the regular season. Fantasy owners should consider Cruz a low-end WR4 with upside. As he gets healthier, his ADP should rise--even if his snaps are extremely limited in the preseason.

MIA - QB Josh Freeman re-signs with Miami

Source: The Palm Beach Post - Andrew Abramson

Free-agent QB Josh Freeman (Dolphins) was re-signed by the Miami Dolphins Tuesday, July 28, according to his agent, Ron Freeman.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Looks like the team needed a camp arm back. The team just released Freeman on Friday, and now he's back. We'd be shocked if he did enough in camp to make the final roster.

If their LT Kahlil can bounce back to pro bowl form, easily the best OL in the division.

Depending on how Detroit copes with "life after Suh", Vikings could have the best defense in division too.

Over 7' wins definitely worth a look, also +300 to make playoffs & +800 to win division.

    Thursday Update

KC - S Eric Berry cleared for practice

    Source:

Kansas City Chiefs SS Eric Berry (illness) has been cleared to take the practice field with the team Wednesday, July 29. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in December 2014. After several rounds of thorough testing and a process that concluded Tuesday, July 28, he has been given the green light.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantastic news here. Berry has beaten cancer, and now he's ready to resume his football career. Even non-Chiefs fans have to be cheering for this guy.

DAL - RB Joseph Randle receives endorsement

    Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle received strong praise from team owner and general manager Jerry Jones Wednesday July 29. 'We have a player (in Randle) that has the potential -- and we based that on, not on what he did at Oklahoma State or how we drafted him, but by literally being a teammate around here for the last two years -- but he has the potential to be the kind of back that would step in there and be your No. 1 back,' Jones told reporters. 'If he were not here, then I wouldn't feel as good as we go into the season and what might happen,' said Jones.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Any back behind that Cowboys O-Line is going to be fantasy relevant. Randle is a determined runner with decent straight-line speed. He has to be considered the top back above Darren McFadden at this time. Randle is a RB2 with upside for fantasy owners.

DET - RB Joique Bell to begin on PUP list

    Source: ESPN.com - Michael Rothstein

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (undisclosed) was placed on the physically unable to perform list Wednesday, July 29, as he recovers from offseason surgery. It is unclear what the specific injury is, but Bell did have issues with his knee and Achilles' last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bell is a fine all-purpose back when healthy, but he's going to take some more time to get ready for the season. We'll be monitoring this situation closely as the Lions go through camp. Bell's status for the start of the regular season is a question mark.

STL - RB Todd Gurley may be ready for Week 1

Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch - Jim Thomas

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) could have a chance to be ready for the start of the regular season since he does not have to start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's great news for the Rams. Gurley could end up being one of the best running backs in the game today. The Rams should ease him back into the lineup as a reserve behind Tre Mason. At some point, Gurley should take over as the lead back.

BAL - RB Justin Forsett could see big workload

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

Baltimore Ravens RB Justin Forsett is likely to see another substantial workload, as offensive coordinator Marc Trestman is a big believer in the running game, and the team will maintain the same zone blocking system they had last year under former offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's great news for Forsett. He's custom made for the zone-blocking system, and that's one of the reasons why he excelled last year. Forsett might be pulled near the goal line (Trestman LOVES to pass inside the 10), but he could catch 60 or more passes in this offense...in addition to rushing for over 1,000 yards. Forsett is a RB2 with RB1 upside for fantasy owners.

NE - QB Tom Brady offered lesser penalty

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots QB Tom Brady could have had his suspended reduced based on a series of conditions. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the NFL was willing to drop the suspension by 'at least 50 percent' if Brady admitted to having knowledge of what the team's staff was doing to footballs, he admitted to failing to cooperate with the Ted Wells investigation and he apologized.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brady continues to declare his innocence in this whole debacle, and he hasn't exactly cooperated 100 percent in the investigation. Now, we'll see if legal action can get his suspension delayed, eliminated or reduced. The general feeling is that most judges are going to rule against something that has been collectively bargained for. Thus, Brady's four-game ban might stick.

CHI - QB Jay Cutler impressing coaches

    Source: ChicagoFootball.com - Kevin Fishbain

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has impressed head coach John Fox with his attitude off the field, but Fox maintained that they're in a performance-based business, Wednesday, July 29. 'No matter what we say about anybody, it’s gonna come down to how we perform on Sundays or Mondays or whenever they line us up,' said Fox. Cutler also spoke highly of Fox, and said he appreciates Fox's straight-shooting demeanor.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This could be Cutler's last season in Chicago if he doesn't start listening to his coaches. Nobody denies Cutler's arm talent, but he's yet to play up to his potential because of bad habits he neglects to fix. We'll see if he can get on the same page with OC Adam Gase this year and salvage his Bears career.

NYJ - RB Stevan Ridley placed on PUP list

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ridley's knee injury is going to slow him down when he's activated for training camp. When fully healthy, Ridley has the talent and experience to push Chris Ivory for the starting job.

CHI - WR Kevin White to go on PUP list

    Source: ChicagoFootball.com

Chicago Bears rookie WR Kevin White (shin) will begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to general manager Ryan Pace.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie is set back because of this shin injury...one that made him miss offseason workouts. He should be back soon enough, but White needs to get up to speed in the complex Adam Gase offense. We love his talent and upside, but we're concerned by John Fox and his refusal to play rookies enough. His current ADP of WR36 (8.04) presents a nice balance of upside and risk.

SD - San Diego hopes RB Melvin Gordon can produce

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon will use the preseason to determine what role he will be able to handle in the offense this season. Gordon will help the team if he is involved in some packages and can establish himself as a downhill runner.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

All reports have been positive about Gordon coming out of Chargers OTAs and minicamp. The rookie from Wisconsin draws comparisons to Jamaal Charles all the time. We're not going to make that exact comparison, but Gordon does has speed and the ability to make defenders miss in the open field. If the rookie can show improved patience as a runner, he'll be a dangerous asset for the Chargers offense.

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah has golden opportunity

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah will have an excellent opportunity to turn heads in training camp, after RB Joique Bell (undisclosed) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bell is battling back from both Achilles' and knee issues. Abdullah is a speedy rookie with the ability to create his own space in the open field. He's not a grinder between the tackles, but he is tougher inside that his size would indicate. Abdullah has the skill set to be a three-down player in the NFL, but his ability to carry a full workload for an entire season is a question mark.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This situation is interesting as Blount was a full participant for offseason workouts. While he's out James White, Brandon Bolden and Jonas Gray will receive more work.

OAK - Former OAK WRs talk WR Amari Cooper

    Source: CSNCalifornia.com

Oakland Raiders rookie WR Amari Cooper was compared to former Oakland WR Tim Brown by former WR Jerry Rice. Rice said the Raiders have their new Tim Brown in Cooper. Brown himself said Cooper is a superb receiver who he thinks will dominate right away.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's incredible praise from the best wide receiver to ever play the game. We love Cooper's natural talent, upside and ability. This season, the Raiders should plan to get the ball to the rookie as much as possible. Cooper is currently going off the board at WR22 (5.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

NYG - Jake Long checks out medically

    Source: NJ.com - Jordan Raanan

Free-agent OT Jake Long (Rams) is believed to have checked out medically during his visit with the New York Giants, and he will participate in position drills for the Giants Wednesday, July 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We could see the Giants sign Jake Long if they like what they see in drills. They'll need offensive line help as starting left tackle Will Beatty injured his pec in the offseason and could be out into November.

    Friday Update

CAR - WR Kelvin Benjamin healthy

Source: The Associated Press - Steve Reed

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (hamstring) said his hamstrings are fine and that he is 100% healthy entering training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Panthers here. Benjamin splashed onto the scene as a rookie last year, and he's looking to build off his 2014 production. He's a favorite target of Cam Newton, and Benjamin is a WR2 with upside for fantasy owners.

STL - RB Todd Gurley will be limited

    Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) will be limited to individual drills when training camp starts as he continues to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Gurley is recovering from an ACL injury suffered last year at Georgia, and he might begin the season as a backup behind Tre Mason. Gurley has incredible talent, and he should take over as the starter when fully healthy.

NYG - Odell Beckham to be eased in

    Source: NJ.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) will be eased into training camp as he continues to nurse a hamstring injury. Beckham recently said the hamstring feels better than it did earlier this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hamstring problems kept Beckham out of the first four games of his rookie season. He's a superstar who can dominate on the field, so the Giants will take it easy on him as he deals with hamstring problems again this year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas will be eased back into the offense this offseason because of his late return to the team. The Broncos want to gauge where Thomas is physically before he's cleared for full contact practices.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas has missed the entire offseason program as he waited for a new long-term deal from the Broncos. It's the smart move to ease him into action. Thomas should be able to catch 100 passes this year in the Gary Kubiak offense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson is talking with the Seahawks about a contract extension, but the two sides may not reach an agreement before the start of training camp, according to sources. The two sides do not appear to be in agreement about the amount of money up front or the guaranteed money.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Garoppolo struggled in practice last year, but he looked good in preseason games. The second-year quarterback may just be bad in practice but good in games. At this time, Garoppolo is set to start the first four games of the year while Brady is suspended.

CLE - RB Terrance West works with starters

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns RB Terrance West worked with the first-team offense during team drills Thursday, July 30. Head coach Mike Pettine said several running backs will see time with the starters during training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ugh. Pettine is frustrating fantasy owners here. Isaiah Crowell is the more talented back, but he didn't get first-team reps over West on Thursday. We'll see Crowell likely win the starting job, but the team is also going to use rookie Duke Johnson as a receiving and change-of-pace back behind him.

Richardson was complimented by RB coach Mike Tice earlier this year, but now that the pads are on Richardson needs to elevate his game. The team could use Latavius Murray as the starting back with Roy Helu as the change-of-pace back. This could be Richardson's last shot in the NFL as he's already been a bust with both the Browns and the Colts.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater added five pounds of muscle during the offseason, although the team set a weight limit for the quarterback to absorb the punishment of the NFL season without sacrificing too much of his mobility.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

But what about his skinny calves?!? We're kidding, we're kidding. Readers to our news wire know how much we love Bridgewater's upside because he's smart and accurate. The added muscle should help him take a beating at quarterback, but really this team's rushing attack should protect him from massive hits. Expect the Vikings to run the ball early and often to set up play-action passes for our guy Teddy.

New York Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul (finger) has not reported to training camp as he continues to rehabilitate from a finger injury, much to the dismay of owner John Mara. Mara said he's disappointed Pierre-Paul has not shown up, adding that the Giants have a solid training staff that could help Pierre-Paul and he would be able to learn the new defense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The future of Pierre-Paul is very much in question. We'll see what happens with his recovery, his contract situation and his ability after the fireworks accident that cost him a finger.

TEN - WR Justin Hunter will be at practice Friday

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Tennessee Titans WR Justin Hunter will practice Friday, July 31, just days after being released from jail for an assault charge.

The league is currently reviewing Hunter's assault case. Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt has expressed support for his wide receiver.

CLE - RB Isaiah Crowell struggling early

    Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell and QB Josh McCown had trouble exchanging the football more than once early in practice Thursday, July 30. Crowell also struggled securing the football in his rookie season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crowell is a talented runner, but he needs to take care of the rock if he wants the starting job.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert says he is healthy

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert said he is 100% healthy for the first time since the beginning of last offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Eifert has the upside to be a top-10 fantasy tight end. The Bengals are likely to use him as much as possible, and he could outperform his current ADP of TE16 (13.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CLE - QB Johnny Manziel inconsistent Thursday

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel had good and bad moments during practice Thursday, July 30. Manziel worked with the second-team offense during practice and had some problems during drills. During one series of drills, he would have been sacked on the first two snaps, almost threw an interception and had a pass batted down at the line of scrimmage. He did make two nice throws during another part of team drills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manziel is going to be rough around the edges, so we're not surprised by this report. We like his new dedication and focus on his craft, but Manziel must show well in practice if he wants to overtake Josh McCown as the team's starter.

NE - RB LeGarrette Blount fails running test

Source: The Boston Globe - Ben Volin

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount was placed on the Non-Football Injury list because he was not able to complete the conditioning test at the start of training camp. Players have to run 20 sprints of 50 yards in under eight seconds to pass the test, but Blount was only able to complete 12 reps.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Blount will get back out there soon enough. He's set to be the lead back for the Patriots this year, but Blount will miss the first game of the season due to a suspension. He is a two-down thumper and a RB3 for fantasy owners.

IND - Owners expects WR T.Y. Hilton extension

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton has a good chance to receive a contract extension before the start of the regular season, according to owner Jim Irsay.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts want to get deals with their core players done, and Hilton is certainly a centerpiece of the offense. We could see him sign a deal similar to what both Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant received ($14 million annually) earlier this year.

    Wilson Signs, $60 Million Guaranteed

Seahawks signed QB Russell Wilson to a four-year, $87.6 million contract extension that includes $60 million guaranteed.

Wilson gets a $31 million signing bonus and is signed through 2019, his age-31 season. The deal is short compared to other quarterback contracts, but gives Wilson another potential bite at the free-agency apple when he's still theoretically in his prime as a quarterback. Wilson's $21.9 million annually in new money makes him the second-highest paid quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers ($22 million). There were whispers Wilson was aiming for a fully-guaranteed contract. He settled for 68.5 percent of it guaranteed, which is still better than any other quarterback. The Seahawks will now turn their attention to MLB Bobby Wagner.

    Saturday Update

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman opens as starter

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman opened training camp Friday, July 31, with the first-team offense. Rookie RB Tevin Coleman said he plans to win the job.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Falcons O-Line isn't the best, but we know that Kyle Shanahan can construct a quality ground game. Freeman changes direction better than Coleman, but he's not as fast and he doesn't protect the quarterback as well. We'll see if the rookie can push Freeman for the starting job. At the end of the day, the Falcons may just use a RBBC featuring both (and Antone Smith) in 2015.

DET - No timetable for RB Joique Bell

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (Achilles', knee) is making progress in his recovery from injuries, but there is still no timetable for his return, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With two injuries to recover from, there really can't be a timeline for Bell. In the meantime, rookie Ameer Abdullah is going to get a big chance to make a positive impression as the first-team back.

MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill impressing

    Source: Sun-Sentinel - Chris Perkins

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has looked sharp so far in training camp, according to Chris Perkins, of the Sun-Sentinel. Tannehill's accuracy has improved, which is an indication of enhanced footwork.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's all on Tannehill this year. The team has made improvements on both sides of the ball, and now they're looking for their quarterback to take his game to the next level. Fantasy owners should be excited by Tannehill this season. Last year, Tannehill finished as the 9th-best fantasy quarterback. This year, he should put together another top-10 season. We like him as a low-end QB1, but if you can get him as a QB2 even better.

SD - TE Antonio Gates talks suspension

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates spoke publicly Thursday, July 30, the first time since being suspended for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. Gates said he was shocked to learn the news and that he didn't know how the substance entered his body. Gates said he tested positive for a substance that produced elevated testosterone levels. 'As you get older, you have to find a way to take care of yourself in terms of recovery,' Gates said. 'Unfortunately, certain things that you take in light of trying to do the right thing, in trying to make sure that when you're done playing that you can walk, talk and enjoy your family, is just not NFL approved.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

While Gates is out, the Chargers are going to turn to Ladarius Green. Gates will miss the first four games of the 2015 season. Green has great speed and can stretch the seam of a defense. If he excels, then perhaps Gates will return to the field as a backup. The team has already publicly discussed given Gates more of a part-time role.

DAL - Deal won't change WR Dez Bryant

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant said his new contract won't change the way he approaches the game. 'It's no pressure, man,' Bryant said Thursday, July 30. 'It's no pressure. That deal don't make me. It don't make me. I play this game because I love this game.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Money changes some players. We'll see if Bryant can stay out of trouble and avoid the pitfalls that sometimes come with large contracts. This is also one of those cases where you ask "What did you expect him to say?". No player is ever go to say anything besides what Bryant said here. The proof will be on the field. And we think he'll be fine.

PHI - QB Sam Bradford moving well

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford has been working with WR Nelson Agholor, and Agholor said that Bradford has been 'moving great' and 'looking healthy.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if Bradford can stay healthy this year after knee injuries plagued him during his time with the Rams. Bradford is accurate on short and intermediate routes, so he could be a nice fit for the Chip Kelly offense. If healthy, Bradford could perform like a QB1 for fantasy owners--and you can draft him like a low-end QB2.

CLE - QB Josh McCown impressive at camp

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown hit receivers in stride and dropped in two deep crossing routes over the coverage during training camp Friday, July 31, and WR Dwayne Bowe said McCown is showing 'all the potential of being a top five quarterback in the NFL.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCown is as impressive as he can be. The Browns don't have a dangerous passing attack, but McCown will be serviceable. If he struggles, the team could turn to second-year quarterback Johnny Manziel.

ARI - QB Carson Palmer not limited

Source: FOX Sports 910 Radio - Mike Jurecki

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) has been cleared to participate in practice and will not be limited during training camp or preseason games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Great news for the Cardinals here. The team fell apart when Palmer went down with injury last year. They're a playoff team, but not without Palmer on the field.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota solid in first practice
    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky
Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota went 13-for-18 with zero interceptions during team drills at practice Friday, July 31. He was able to use a hard count to make the defense jump offside twice during drills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The zero interceptions is huge for the rookie. He's almost starting from square one as he doesn't have much experience working from under center. Mariota was a star for Oregon in their spread system, but he's got to prove that he can be an effective passer while dropping back.

BUF - QB Matt Cassel takes first-team reps

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Cassel opened training camp Friday, July 31, as the first-team quarterback.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cassel has as about as much of being the starter for the season opener against the Colts as he does of getting cut before the season begins. The team seems like they will reluctant to start any of the QBs on their roster for Week 1, which is not ideal.

NYJ - WR Devin Smith suffers broken ribs
    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Devin Smith (ribs) will miss a majority of training camp after suffering broken ribs Friday, July 31, according to the team. He will be held at a hospital overnight for observation.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ouch. Bad news for the rookie trying to make an impression. It's also bad news for a guy who had a history of getting banged up. Rib injuries come with a lot of pain, and they can also have a lengthy recovery.

BAL - TE Maxx Williams performs well Friday

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Garrett Downing

Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams ran sharp routes and showed strong hands during practice Friday, July 31. He was also targeted often in short yardage situations during team drills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rookie tight ends take some time to make an impact in the NFL. We love Williams' upside as a player, and his skill set is reminiscent of a young Jason Witten. This season, Williams will work to prove himself but we'll likely see Crockett Gillmore as the team's starter to begin the year.

TEN - WR Hakeem Nicks sees time with starters

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky

Tennessee Titans WR Hakeem Nicks received a bulk of the work opposite WR Kendall Wright with the first-team offense during practice Friday, July 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nicks struggled to impress last year with the Colts. He may be running with the first-team offense now, but we're not expecting him to be in that spot by the time the regular season rolls around. Watch for rookie Dorial Green-Beckham to end up in the starting lineup sooner rather than later.

CLE - RB Isaiah Crowell works with first team

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell was the first running back to work with the first-team offense during practice Friday, July 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

So long as Crowell hangs onto the rock, he should win the starting job. He will split time with Duke Johnson as the team is likely to involve the rookie as a pass-catching back.

    Sunday Update

ARI - QB Carson Palmer stronger Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer has supposedly improved his arm strength since last season. Palmer is much healthier overall, as well, including his knee and shoulder.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This should be expected from the veteran quarterback. If his shoulder and knee can hold up, Palmer should be able to lead the Cardinals to the playoffs. Fantasy owners should consider Palmer a QB2 and occasional starter.

BUF - QB EJ Manuel working with starters

Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel is working with the first-team offense during practice Saturday, Aug. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manuel was the team's first-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft, but injuries and inconsistencies have prevented him from showing much as a pro. He's competing with Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor for the starting job in Buffalo this year. Watching this battle is not relevant for fantasy owners--unless you play in a deep league--and unless Taylor wins the job. A scrambling quarterback can be a valuable fantasy asset, and Taylor is one of the most athletic quarterbacks in the league.

OAK - RB Latavius Murray ready to prove himself

    Source: Raiders.com - Eddie Paskal

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray said he understands how important it is for him to perform well in 2015. 'I know the success I've had doesn’t matter,' Murray said Friday, July 31. 'What matters now is what I [do going] forward and what I do this upcoming season, this upcoming training camp. Again, do anything I can just to get better and help the team.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Murray has the ability to be a quality starter for the Raiders this year. He's big, powerful and Murray has the speed to score from long distances. We see him as a RB2 with upside for fantasy owners. His current ADP is RB21 (4.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CHI - WR Kevin White making progress

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

White should end up as one of the best receivers in this draft class. He's fast, quick and can toy with defenders in the open field. This shin problem has slowed him down in camp, and this has slowed his development. He could end up as the WR2 opposite Alshon Jeffery in Chicago. Eddie Royal is best suited to play as their slot receiver.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman day-to-day

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (knee) is considered day-to-day with a bruised knee. Perriman has missed two practices in a row because of the injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie is talented but raw. The Ravens need to ease him along as he deals with this knee problem. The more reps he can get on the field the better as Perriman knows how to get open deep, but he's not a refined route-runner. Perriman should one day be a starter on the outside, but he may begin this season as a reserve for the Ravens.

SD - RB Melvin Gordon struggling with protection

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Kevin Acee

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon has struggled with pass protection through the first three days of training camp. From Kevin Acee: "Melvin Gordon is gonna have tons of yards, be exciting ... But thru 3 days it's clear he's not playing 3 downs w/o much improvement blocking"

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie has fantastic talent as a runner, and he often draws comparisons to Jamaal Charles because of his speed and agility. Gordon can make plays in space as a receiver too. The rookie has to protect the quarterback if he's going be a 3 down back. We should see improvements from him as training camp goes on.

SF - QB Colin Kaepernick improving throws

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has impressed his teammates this offseason by improving the touch on his passes. FS Eric Reid said he's optimistic about how Kaepernick will do this year, especially with the touch he's seen on deep throws.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Kaepernick wants to take the next step as a pro quarterback, he's got to get better as a passer. We're glad that Reid is impressed, but we'll believe it when we see it--especially under pressure. With so many losses on both sides of the ball, the 49ers offense isn't one we're investing a lot in.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

West joined rookie Duke Johnson and second-year back Glenn Winston on the sidelines, giving journeyman Shaun Draughn a chance to earn some praise from the coaches. West is fighting with Johnson and Crowell for playing time in a backfield that should be the most efficient part of the Browns offense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Terrance West also had a minor calf injury, leaving Isaiah Crowell as the last top three back standing. The Browns offensive line is one of the best run-blocking units in the league, but it's not clear yet which Browns back will benefit the most.

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman received first-team repetitions in practice Saturday, Aug. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Atlanta backfield competition will be one of the biggest fantasy stories of the summer. Both Coleman and 2014 fourth-round pick Devonta Freeman will play large roles, but the back with the upper hand will have weekly RB2 potential and be worth more in drafts. Right now Coleman is usually going 2-3 rounds ahead of Freeman on rookie promise.
