NFL Player News - Week of May 11th, 2015

NE - QB Tom Brady suspended

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has been suspended four games for his involvement in the deflated-football incident in the AFC Championship. In addition, the Patriots will lose their 2016 first-round pick, a 2017 fourth-round pick and will be fined $1 million, according to a source.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The league did not show favorites here, and this penalty is larger than some expected. Brady will likely appeal the four-game suspension, and that could reduce his sentence to two or three games. With Brady out, second-year pro Jimmy Garoppolo will be the starting quarterback.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant to return punts?
Source: The Dallas Morning News - Jon Machota
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant may return punts in 2015, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones. With the loss of former WR Dwayne Harris, the Cowboys are in need of a new punt returner. Jones said that WR Cole Beasley will probably be the first option, but that Bryant could also be used since he returned punts in college and has done so in his professional career.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bryant is too valuable to the offense to be used regularly as a punt returner. Whether he's playing on a new long-term contract or on his one-year franchise tender, Bryant is likely to be making around $14 million in 2015. That's too much money to risk injury as a return man.

PHI - WR Riley Cooper may not start in 2015
Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane
Philadelphia Eagles WR Riley Cooper may not have a starting job this season with the drafting of WR Nelson Agholor.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We like Agholor as a starter from day one, and he's a player fantasy owners need to be monitoring closely. The rookie is much more naturally talented than Cooper, and his quickness/speed combination should make him a dangerous weapon for the offense. Agholor's current ADP is WR51 (11.09), and it could rise as we get closer to the start of the regular season.

CHI - Kevin White showing versatility
    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra
Chicago Bears WR Kevin White has spent time at all three receiver positions during rookie minicamp.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's good to see the Bears already moving White around the formation to find the best matchups. He's an incredible talent with the speed to take the top off the defense. White is quick off the line of scrimmage, and he doesn't lose speed out of his breaks. He'll be a great weapon for the Bears opposite Alshon Jeffery.

TB - Jameis Winston learning quickly
    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston was praised by head coach Lovie smith for his ability to learn the playbook. 'He's been cramming like it's a final exam, and he's doing a good job of it,' Smith said. 'We've seen marked improvement from the moment we gave him his playbook. Jameis is a bright guy. He'll be able to get it all.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Winston is an alpha male with all the confidence in the world. He wants to be the best in the league, and it looks like he's taking the transition to the pros like a professional. The Bucs have a nice group of weapons around their young quarterback. There will be some struggles for Winston this year, but we're excited to see him develop.

SEA - Tyler Lockett to have big role?
    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra
Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett was used all over the field during rookie minicamp and was praised by head coach Pete Carroll. He is in line to return punts and kicks and see action in the passing game.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We love this addition for the Seahawks. Lockett is a smaller but explosive receiver with a dash of Antonio Brown (Steelers) to his game. He's got the quickness to get open underneath, he's fearless over the middle and Lockett can score anytime he touches the ball. The nature of the offense is to run the ball early and often, but Lockett will make the passing game more dangerous.

BAL - Breshad Perriman signs with BAL
    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman signed to an undisclosed contract Monday, May 11.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Perriman is a big, fast receiver who can get off the line of scrimmage quickly and cleanly. He does a good job of tracking deep passes and should give the Ravens a fine starter opposite Steve Smith.

WAS - Robert Griffin to make strides in '15?
Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones
Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III should be comfortable enough with the offense to improve this season, according to head coach Jay Gruden. 'Everything should come a lot more natural for [Griffin], and hopefully, we see that transition from year one to year two in this system with the terminology and knowing where to go with your footwork and anticipation of getting the ball out quicker,' Gruden said.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's a make-or-break year for Griffin. Washington picked up his fifth-year option so they can keep him around in 2016....if he plays up to his potential this year. Fantasy owners should consider Griffin a QB3 with QB1 upside if he can get his career back on track. His current ADP is QB25 (14.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    HOU - Jaelen Strong's conditioning a concern
Source: Houston Chronicle - Brian T. Smith
Houston Texans WR Jaelen Strong needs to improve his conditioning, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. O'Brien added that his rookie class as a whole needed to improve their conditioning.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
That last sentence is important to highlight...O'Brien was calling out all the rookies on the roster. Strong is a larger receiver, and he reminds us of a young Marques Colston. Too bad the Texans quarterback situation is one of the worst in the league. Strong gives the Texans a nice starting option opposite DeAndre Hopkins.

STL - Todd Gurley preparing mentally
    Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner
St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) isn't able to participate in group drills just yet as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, but he's still making other preparations. 'I'm just gaining mental [repetitions], basically just making sure I know what's going on.' Gurley said he listens to play calls, goes through plays by himself and watches the team during walkthroughs in order to improve his knowledge of the playbook.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It won't take Gurley long to get up to speed at the pro level. We could see him eased in as training camp hits with the idea that he'll be near 100 percent by the start of the regular season. Gurley can begin his rookie season splitting time with second-year back Tre Mason, but he has superstar potential and he could be the bellcow back for the Rams in the near future.

    - RB Ahmad Bradshaw pleads no contest
    Source: The Associated Press
Free-agent RB Ahmad Bradshaw (Colts) pleaded no contest and paid a fine to settle a misdemeanor count of marijuana possession in Ohio. He paid $351 in fines under the plea agreement, and his Ohio driving privileges were suspended for six months. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league will review Bradshaw's case 'under our policies.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This isn't going to help Bradshaw latch on with a team. It's a young man's game, and teams found plenty of talented running backs in the draft. Bradshaw's season was cut short last year in Week 11 with a broken leg. On the open market, Bradshaw has drawn zero interest.

NE - TE Fred Davis agrees with New England

    Source: ESPN.com
Free-agent TE Fred Davis (Redskins) agreed to a one-year deal with the New England Patriots Monday, May 11.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Well that was quick. Davis was just reinstated by the league last week, and now he finds himself with the defending Super Bowl champs. Davis was out of the league last year after repeated violations of the substance abuse policy, a DUI and a domestic incident. It's an interesting move for the Patriots as they are jam packed at the position. Behind starter Rob Gronkowski, they have Scott Chandler, Michael Hoomanawanui and Tim Wright. Rookie A.J. Derby, a sixth-round pick, is also on the depth chart. Davis is no guarantee to make the final roster.

SEA - Want to keep QB Tarvaris Jackson
Source: The Seattle Times - Jerry Brewer
Free-agent QB Tarvaris Jackson (Seahawks) may be brought back by the team in 2015. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told reporters the team wants to bring Jackson back and is interested in continuing negotiations.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jackson should be brought back to give the team valuable depth behind Russell Wilson. He knows the offense like the back of his hand, and Jackson is a good backup quarterback.

DAL - Other WRs affecting WR Dez Bryant contract
    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant's contract talks have been slowed by more than just issues between Bryant and the Cowboys, executive vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday, May 6. 'I think a lot people want to naturally assume it's a Dez Bryant-Cowboy issue,' Jones said. 'I think it's a bigger issue than that right now. There's three or four young receivers in this league other than Dez that are going to be looking for long term contracts.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Bryant situation is similar to the Demaryius Thomas situation in Denver. Both are franchise tagged, and neither has signed their tender yet. The deadline to get a new long-term contract done with franchise players is July 15th. We don't expect either wide receiver to get anything done until we get much closer to that deadline. Any long-term contract struck by one could be used as a guideline for the other. Both could sign deals with an annual average salary over $14 million.

    HOU - S D.J. Swearinger leaves Texans
    Source: Instagram
Houston Texans SS D.J. Swearinger announced on Instagram that he and the team parted ways Monday, May 11.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Things change pretty quickly around here. Swearinger was a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft but he couldn't make a positive impression with the Texans. Swearinger failed to make plays against the run or the pass, and that's why no team was willing to trade for him. Now that he's on the open market, there might be a few teams interested in giving Swearinger a look.

    Wednesday Update

BUF - RB Fred Jackson may miss final cut?

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson may not make the final roster if the Bills end up keeping only three running backs, according to Mike Rodak of ESPN.com. RB LeSean McCoy is a lock for the final roster, while RBs Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown will also compete for a spot.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We can't imagine this happening, but in the NFL anything is possible. We would rather keep Jackson--and his $2.7 million cap number--over cheaper options like Dixon or Brown.

CIN - A.J. McCarron plans to challenge QB Andy Dalton

    Source: ESPN.com - Cole Harvey

Cincinnati Bengals backup QB A.J. McCarron (shoulder), who spent almost all of his rookie season in 2014 on the non-football injury list with a shoulder injury from college, plans to push QB Andy Dalton hard for the starting job in training camp this summer. 'Andy's our starter. I know that. I love Andy to death. But I want to make him better every way that I can,' McCarron said. He also said, ""Andy's always been there for me. He's been like a big brother to me," McCarron said. "But I'm going to compete and try to push him the best I can and have his back -- always."

The coaches said McCarron looks to be throwing pain-free this offseason. He spent the offseason training with quarterbacks coaches David Morris and Tom House, and House changed some of McCarron's mechanics to help him throw tighter with more compact body control. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The headline is from ESPN, not us. The reality is McCarron is a backup-level quarterback at the pro level. And he's saying exactly what you'd expect most any backup to say - he's going to compete and push the starter. But it's May and sometimes this is what happens with headlines. Sure, Dalton isn't Andrew Luck but he's certainly better than McCarron 10 times out of 10 and twice on Sundays. Dynasty owners take note that we're not expecting much from the former Alabama quarterback. We'll see if McCarron can prove us (and a lot of other people) wrong about his upside.

HOU - Houston QBs to share reps

    Source: HoustonTexans.com - Deepi Sidhu

Houston Texans QBs Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett will split first-team repetitions once organized team activities (OTAs) begin later this month.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Awesome, too bad they don't have better quarterbacks to choose from. The Texans have a fine group of skill position players, led by Arian Foster and DeAndre Hopkins. They won't be able to get the most out of their passing game unless Hoyer, Mallett or Tom Savage start to play out of this world. This will hold the fantasy potential of the offense back in 2015.

DET - WR Lance Moore signs with Motown

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent WR Lance Moore (Steelers) signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moore is not the same player he used to be as evidenced by his 2014 season with the Steelers. The Lions have inexperienced--but talented--receivers behind Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate. Moore (known mostly for his time in New Orleans) is reunited with former Saints assistant Joe Lombardi, and he gives the team valuable veteran depth at the position.

    JAX - Dante Fowler terms

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating an earlier report, Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler (knee) signed a four-year, $23.5 million deal with no offsets, according to a source. The deal is fully guaranteed, despite the fact that he tore his anterior cruciate ligament recently.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fowler signed a waiver with the Jaguars so he could participate in rookie minicamp. That deal stated the Jaguars would deal with him fairly in the event of an emergency. The Jaguars certainly did just that. Now, the team will look to get the pass-rusher healthy for the 2016 season.

WAS - Brandon Scherff signs rookie deal

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Washington Redskins OT Brandon Scherff signed his rookie deal Tuesday, May 12. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Passing on DT Leonard Williams (Jets) could come back to haunt Washington. Scherff will start on the right side for the team and help their power up front. He's an incredibly strong prospect with the ability to pancake his opponent. Scherff needs to clean up his pass-protection ability (kickslide, balance) in order to play up to his potential as a pro.

DAL - RB Joseph Randle could play leading role

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle could see the bulk of the carries as the season weighs on, in the opinion of beat writer Todd Archer. Archer pegged Randle for 1,200 rushing yards this season in what Archer admitted was a bold prediction.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Opinions on Randle run hot and cold when you talk to Dallas reporters and beat writers. Some think he's not going to make the team, while others (like Archer here) believe he could be the team's top back. There's no denying Randle's talent as a runner. He's got good speed and can make big plays happen with just a little running room--plus he's a decent receiver. Fantasy owners need to monitor the Cowboys running back situation closely. With their offensive line nearly any back can be fantasy relevant with the right amount of touches.

    Thursday Update

BAL - Maxx Williams to make RZ impact?

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams is expected to make an impact right away on third down and in the red zone, according to general manager Ozzie Newsome.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We consider Williams a star in the making. He reminds us of a young Jason Witten (Cowboys) because of his smooth athleticism, soft hands and fearlessness running routes over the middle. The Ravens needed a TE1 with Owen Daniels (Broncos) moving on in free agency. Williams can be considered a TE2 with TE1 upside for fantasy owners. His current ADP is TE16 (12.12) in 12-team PPR leagues...but we expect this to rise as the season gets closer.

SF - QB Colin Kaepernick helped by RB Reggie Bush

    Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush has been an asset to QB Colin Kaepernick this offseason, according to general manager Trent Baalke. Baalke said Bush and Kaepernick have developed a rapport and that Bush's downfield speed gives Kaepernick more room to work with.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The 49ers need as many weapons around Kaepernick as they can possibly get. Bush will play as a change-of-pace back behind Carlos Hyde this season. Hyde is going off the board at RB17 (3.12) in 12-team PPR leagues while Bush's ADP is at RB43 (9.08).

ARI - RB Andre Ellington aided by new RB?

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington said the selection of rookie RB David Johnson will give him more rest time and keep the offense upbeat.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Early reports indicate that Ellington will still be the lead back, but the Cardinals will employ some form of RBBC this season. Johnson is a rhythm runner who can grind down an opponent as the game goes on. Ellington's current ADP is RB19 (4.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

TEN - Tre McBride receives deal

    Source: TitansOnline.com

Tennessee Titans WR Tre McBride signed a contract with the team Wednesday, May 13. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McBride has some of the best hands in this draft class. He can make difficult catches seem routine, and his catch radius helps him play bigger than his size (6'0"). McBride can make an impact as a return man or reserve receiver during his rookie year. Savvy dynasty owners should be drooling over his long-term upside.

DET - Ameer Abdullah signs deal

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah signed a four-year deal with the team Wednesday, May 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Abdullah is an explosive change-of-pace back who should fill in as the "Reggie Bush" of this offense behind Joique Bell. He has the speed to eat up chunks of yardage in a hurry as a runner in space or as a receiver out of the backfield. Abdullah lacks the ideal size to be a bellcow back at the pro level, but he is an intent runner between the tackles--he's just never going to push the pile or run through arm tackles regularly. He also needs to improve his pass-protection before he is asked to play a larger role on the Lions offense.

BAL - CB Kyle Arrington may be a target

    Source: ESPN - Ed Werder

Free-agent CB Kyle Arrington (Patriots) is receiving interest from the Baltimore Ravens.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Arrington could return to the Patriots at a smaller salary, but there will be other teams out there (like Baltimore) willing to take a chance on the veteran. The need at corner is there for the Ravens...and not just as a slot corner behind Lardarius Webb and Jimmy Smith. Webb is coming off a disappointing 2014, and Smith is recovering from Lisfranc surgery. If he's added, there's a chance Arrington could end up playing significant snaps for the Ravens in 2015.

    Friday Update

SF - RB Carlos Hyde expected to start
    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Curtis Crabtree
San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde is the expected starter heading into the regular season while RBs Reggie Bush, Kendall Hunter and rookie Mike Davis all compete for touches as well.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This is what fantasy owners have been expecting. With Frank Gore (Colts) gone, Hyde gets to take over as the lead back. Bush should be the primary change-of-pace player behind him on the depth chart. We like the upside of rookie Mike Davis in dynasty leagues, but his impact may be minimal this year. Hyde has a current ADP of RB17 (3.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell fine with ban
    Source: ESPN.com - Coley Harvey
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell said Thursday, May 14, that he didn't have a problem with his three-game suspension for being charged with possession of marijuana and driving under the influence. 'I made a mistake,' Bell said. 'I'm going to just have to do my time, whatever the final decision may be. Get past it, and get ready for next season and continuing to be the great football player I know I can be.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It will be interesting to see how the Steelers deal with his absence and whether Deangelo Williams can be productive, as he just hadn't been for the Carolina Panthers in some time. Bell remains a high ADP choice, close to the top of the first round, while Williams is only at an ADP of 11.09, even with those first three games.

    Source: ESPN.com - Tania Ganguli
Houston Texans QB Ryan Mallett (pectoral) said he is feeling better each day and does not think he has any restrictions from the pectoral injury he suffered during the 2014 season.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Right now, Mallett's ADP is after the 15th round, but a solid training camp could push him up the board. He has talented weapons around him but he's unproven and inconsistent.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's unlikely anyone really takes a shot with Vick, and at best he'll end up a backup. Given that he could barely scare up the effort to prep for a game here or there with the New York Jets.

MIN - Coach happy with WR Cordarrelle Patterson
Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson
Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson has been impressive during offseason workouts, according to head coach Mike Zimmer. 'He's really done well,' Zimmer said. 'He's running routes good; he's working hard. So we just need him to continue to do those things and continue to keep getting consistent and keep improving. I've been impressed with the things that he's done.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good news here. There are only a few players with the natural talent that Patterson has. Unfortunately, his pro game has been marred by inconsistencies and a lack of production. Potential is a great word, but eventually Patterson is going to have to start producing at a level he's capable of. We love quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, and he will certainly help this Vikings passing game. Patterson is worth a late-round flier in re-draft leagues. His current ADP is WR63 (13.01) in 12-team PPR leagues, but his potential is that of a WR3/flex.

WAS - RB Alfred Morris may land new deal
    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris has a 50% chance to land a contract extension with the team, in the opinion of beat writer John Keim. Morris is in the final year of his contract.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Washington drafted Matt Jones (Florida) in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft, but they still may decide to keep Morris around. Morris has been productive for Washington with 3,955 rushing yards over the last three seasons. His numbers have dipped slightly during that time, but Morris is still a RB2 for fantasy owners. His current ADP is RB15 (3.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

SF - WR Torrey Smith should free up TE Vernon Davis
    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco
San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith's arrival should free up TE Vernon Davis to stretch the field, according to general manager Trent Baalke. 'The one thing that really shows up is the way the field's opened up more with the speed or Torrey being able to stretch the outside,' Baalke said. 'And it really helps Vernon's game because now Vernon's game is (to) stretch the field a little bit, as well.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The team needs to get Davis back on track after a hugely disappointing 2014 season where he only caught 26 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns. Smith has the speed to stretch the field and open up routes underneath. We'll see if his presence can help spring Davis free.

BAL - Breshad Perriman making impression
    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Garrett Downing
Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman is already being lauded by QB Joe Flacco. 'He looks really good. He looks big, powerful, runs well,' Flacco said. 'He looks like he has big, strong hands. He snatches the ball out of the air.'

Perriman was plagued by drops at Central Florida, so let's slow our roll until we see him against some cornerbacks with some contact. Yes he snatches the ball out of the air, but he dropped a lot of those balls afterwards when corners got involved. Right now his ADP is 12.06, and he has a good quarterback who needs a playmaker in Joe Flacco. We just need to see him under live fire.

DAL - Jerry Jones confident in run game
    Source: DallasCowboys.com
Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones expressed confidence in the team's overall run game Thursday, May 14. “You say the entire running game, and that would be including our tight ends, including our fullback – the entire game – we’re better,” Jones said. The Cowboys have yet to determine roles for their running backs. As it stands, RB Darren McFadden is at the top of the depth chart, with RBs Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar and Ryan Williams in the mix.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Darren McFadden is constantly hurt, and his fifth round ADP shows a general distrust by owners so far. Consider that this is a fifth round pick behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Joseph Randle is going in the late ninth round, while Ryan Williams is a common pick late in round 12. Lance Dunbar is hanging on with an ADP of round 14. All this goes to show is that nobody has much faith that this will be productive for all the backs and are cautious about McFadden and his injury issues.

TEN - Dorial Green-Beckham lauded by former HC
Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt
Tennessee Titans WR Dorial Green-Beckham has grown up and is ready to take the NFL by storm, according to Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops. 'A lot of times, through different circumstances, young people learn from mistakes, and I felt like he did,' Stoops said. 'There's a maturing process… and I believe Dorial has grown. [He] has so much going for him. I think he is going to have a super career in the NFL.'

Well, we'll see what we see. It's easy to say that when he's not your issue anymore and one might say that constant indulgence and overlooking of his issues led him to his many red flags. He's not a safe pick in the first round of rookie drafts, but his upside makes him someone worth looking at in the second. It's too early to tell where he'll fit in for redraft purposes.

SEA - RB Robert Turbin had surgery
    Source: FOXSports.com - Ross Jones
Seattle Seahawks RB Robert Turbin (hip) underwent hip surgery this offseason, according to sources. No timetable was disclosed for his recovery.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Turbin hasn't really shown much yet. Marshawn Lynch seems to be staying another year, and there's no telling if either Turbin or Christine Michael are a replacement for him together or separately. Michael has an ADP of RB70 (13.11) in 12-team PPR leagues, while Turbin is undrafted in those re-draft leagues.

JAX - RB Denard Robinson to return kicks
    Source: ESPN.com - Michael DiRocco
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Denard Robinson will return kicks in 2015, according to general manager David Caldwell.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Robinson flashed some playmaking ability last year, but he lacks the size to be a bellcow back at the pro level. That's why the Jaguars went out and selected T.J. Yeldon in the 2015 NFL draft. We should see Yeldon as the lead back and Robinson as the change-of-pace back. Yeldon has a current ADP of RB40 (8.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    Sunday Update

PHI - QB Mark Sanchez could be best option for PHI

Source: The Delaware County Times - Bob Grotz
Philadelphia Eagles QB Mark Sanchez could be the team's best bet for a starting quarterback. Sanchez went 4-4 after taking over as the starter last season, and finished the campaign with a career best 64.1 completion percentage. Sanchez has played all but one game during his six-year career, showing health that's lacked by the Eagles' other options.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Sanchez is a decent starter in this offense, and he may prove to be a better (healthier) option than Sam Bradford. We like Bradford's accuracy and anticipation as a passer, but his pro career has been plagued by numerous severe injuries. We'll see how this shakes out in training camp. The Eagles starting quarterback is fantasy relevant, but at varying levels depending on who wins the job.

DAL - RB Joseph Randle needs team's trust

    Source: The Dallas Morning News

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle has the skills to lead the team's backfield in 2015 but he'll need to work on his off-field issues, according to Jon Machota of SportsDayDFW.com. Randle will need to prove to his coaches he can stay out of trouble and be relied on every week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Randle has good speed to attack a defense, and he may have an opportunity to prove himself with a larger role in 2015. Veteran Darren McFadden can be penciled in as the team's starter right now, but his injury history reads like Infinite Jest. If McFadden is hurt again, Randle could step in to start and produce RB1 numbers because of that incredible offensive line. Keep an eye on Randle on and off the field during training camp.

BAL - TE Dennis Pitta likely to start on PUP

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) will likely begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Pitta's hip injury could be career-ending, but he's working on the road to recovery at this time. The Ravens aren't counting on him, and that's why they drafted Maxx Williams in the 2015 NFL draft.

ARI - David Johnson praised by HC

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers
Arizona Cardinals rookie RB David Johnson was recently lauded by head coach Bruce Arians. '[He's] very, very bright. The kid can do anything as far as a wide receiver, running back, full back,' Arians said. 'He will find a niche quick because he can learn so much.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson should work well as a power complementary back behind Andre Ellington. He's a swift runner with a determined style. There's not a lot of nuance to his game, but Johnson can be counted on when tough yards are needed.

DEN - Trevor Siemian signs deal

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos QB Trevor Siemian signed a four-year contract with the team Friday, May 15. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We have no idea why the Broncos would draft Siemian. His film at Northwestern was bad, and he had trouble staying in the starting lineup as a collegian. His throwing motion is a 3/4 release, and he struggles with accuracy on passes 10 yards or more downfield. He'll be on the practice squad this year for Denver, but they could also put him on season-ending Injured Reserve as he's still recovering from a knee injury he suffered last year.
