I don't think you'll ever see this kid play a down in the NFL but it's a smart move. He's gonna get paid. Why risk coming back for a year on a team that has 3 QBs competing for a spot, shit the bed and his draft stock tanks. He might as well cash in now and get paid at the perfect opportunity.

That being said any GM who takes him before the 5th round is a complete bone head. I don't believe he's ever taken a snap from under center, then read a defense him self and passed to his 2nd or 3rd read. Everything was set up for in the shotgun to go deep on his first read.

Mariota cant throw to his 2nd or 3rd read either. Which is why he looked pathetic against OSU. Take away his 1st read, hes completely normal.

he looked pathetic? He passed for over 340 yards and really 2 TDs 0 INT (not counting the last meaningless play of the game). The guy had no WRs. I don't think people understand how bad Oregons O line got man handled. He didn't even have a chance to go to his 2nd read.

If what you are saying is true and truly couldnt get off his first read and throw to his 2nd or 3rd option, he wouldn't have thrown for 105 TDs to just 14 INT. cmon.

He got 75 yards of those and 1 TD on one pass.
watch the game. When his 1st read wasnt there, he was shook.
Its oregon offense, tons of designed screens, etc. First read almost always there. Against OSU it wasnt

ifhes smart he would go to the nfl while his stock is high and he has no injuries ive seen this scenario where a guysstock is really high and decides to stay in college and either has a terrible season or he tears his acl and never makes it to the nfl.So yes he better go and declare for the draft.

Here are the key numbers that a lot of you guys are overlooking but certainly not NFL GM's or NFL scouts...6' 5" 250lbs and only 22 years of age...not to mention that he already has a cannon for an arm...He's gifted with all three big S's...Size, Speed, and Strength...and he is still very young and only a raw talent!...Most teams would foam at the mouth to season him for a couple of seasons!...

I dont see why he cant win the job outright in spring esp with Barrett coming off ACL injury. He showed flashes of Cam Newton-like ability at times and adds a dimension that Barrett didnt have as a power runner that can pick up key first downs. There just isnt a reliable track record for guys with limited playing time and NFL success and I think he wants to develop his game to another level so he can play at the next level.

Why hold a conference to say you are staying...a little overboard on the attention whoring. He's a beast physically but I see a bust in his future.

well, if he did this before the days of constant media it wouldn't have been a big deal.
i can see why he chose to make the statement himself because the school doesn't own him.
he's not property of Ohio State.. now they choose whether to back the QB who just helped
win the National Championship or go back to their former starters...

“With a full season of taking reps as a 1,” he said. “It will help me be the best quarterback I can be.”
In other words, he’s not backing down from a potential three-way competition with J.T. Barrett, who set the Big Ten record for total touchdowns (45) before breaking an ankle; or Braxton Miller, who is 28-8 as a starter at Ohio State. This move might prompt Miller to think about a transfer, considering LSU and Florida State are among the suitors.

If I were him, OSU would have a matter of months to say I'm the starter, or SEE YA LATER.
This wasn't whoring, this was making it known you are your own man.

Already been the rumors of Braxton or Barrett transferring is this. No doubt Bucks will be QB heavy going into next season so it'll be interesting to see this play out. Competition, leadership and selfishness all going to play key roles we'll see who is who
