NFL Player Injury News for Wild Card Playoff Round as of Tuesday

    Quarterback

QB Aaron Rodgers - GB - Rodgers re-injured his calf and had to be carted to the locker room against the Lions on Sunday, but was able to return after missing just two series (getting treatment over half-time). He did suffer a further aggravation of his lower left leg when Ndamukong Suh stepped on the sore appendage (twice!) later during the game. The good news is that the Packers earned a bye week with their victory on Sunday, so Rodgers has additional time to get treatment and heal up his calf muscle for the playoffs. QB Drew Stanton - ARI - Stanton was unable to practice last week due to his injured knee, and he was inactive on Sunday after being listed as out on Friday. Per RotoWorld.com and the Doug & Wolf Show, GM Steve Keim said, "At this point it's day to day, but we're hopeful."

    Running Back

RB LeVeon Bell - PIT - Head coach Mike Tomlin said after winning the AFC North that there didn’t appear to be any structural damage to Bell's knee - that he has suffered a hyper-extension of the joint. Thursday Update

    Source: Steelers.com
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 31.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bell may not be able to practice all week. The Steelers might have to play on Saturday without him but we'll hopefully know more soon.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell says he feels great
Source: NFL Network - Aditi Kinkhabwala
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) said he is feeling great, and is not walking with any discernible limp Wednesday, Dec. 31.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We're cautiously optimistic here. The Steelers would have to lean heavily on their passing game if Bell can't play on Saturday against the Ravens. Bell said he is taking it day by day.

CIN - WR A.J. Green still in concussion protocol
    Source: FOXSportsOhio.com - Kevin Goheen
Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (concussion) is still in the NFL concussion protocol Wednesday, Dec. 31.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Yep, this is what we expected. Green will have to be cleared by an independent physician before he's able to resume practice. He may not get back to practice until Friday. Unless he suffers a setback, Green should be able to play on Sunday against the Colts.

IND - TE Dwayne Allen takes part in practice
    Source: NFL
Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 31.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Allen should be able to play this weekend against the Bengals. Their Wild Card matchup isn't until Sunday, and if Allen is fully participating on Wednesday then he's likely good to go.

    Source: NFL
Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne (groin) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 31.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Colts should take it easy on the veteran this week. They need all the help they can get on Sunday against the Bengals.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Green needs to be cleared in the concussion protocol before he can resume practicing again. There's a chance he won't be cleared to practice until Friday.

NE - Three signed to futures deals
    Source: NESN.com - Doug Kyed
The New England Patriots signed free-agent RB Dion Lewis (Browns), LB Rufus Johnson (Saints) and DT Antonio Johnson (Titans) to futures contracts Wednesday, Dec. 31. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We'd still like to see Lewis get a larger opportunity in the NFL. Injuries have held him back, but the former Eagles RB has 36 carries for 171 yards and two touchdowns on his career.

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 31.

MIN - QB Teddy Bridgewater will remain starter
Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Master Tesfatsion
Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater will start at quarterback heading into next season, according to head coach Mike Zimmer. “I think we’re fortunate in the fact that we learned an awful lot about Teddy this year and the progress that he’s made,” Zimmer said. “He’s still got to get a lot better to get to where we want to go. He’s got to improve in the offseason and things like that, but yeah, I think it will allow the focus to move to another spot, other spots, not one spot, but other spots, we’ve got a lot of spots we’ve got to get better at. I think that helps solidify probably the number one question that was going on at this point in time last year.”
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Why is this even a question mark? He looked the best out of any rookie QB to start this year. Bridgewater is smart and accurate...and that goes a long way at the pro level. As he gains more experience, Bridgewater should keep improving.

CIN - WR Dane Sanzenbacher placed on IR

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's that time of year. Roethlisberger should be able to recover fully before the team plays on Saturday against the Ravens.

WAS - Jim Haslett let go
Source: NBC4 Washington - Dianna Marie Russini
Washington Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett has mutually agreed to part ways with the team Wednesday, Dec. 31.

We're not surprised by this news. Haslett had been struggling to put a quality defense on the field for years now. Injuries at various positions didn't help, but Haslett's scheme was just not working.

I really don't think that we will see LeVeon Bell this week, maybe next week if Pittsburg can win without him this week.
