The NBA is just a horrible product.

I never seen so many blow outs in a season. Every team is worried about resting their stars so they throw in the towel with 8 minutes left in the game.

I went back and counted from Monday to Saturday and there were 30 games with a victory of over 10 points. (The NBA didn't play Thursday)

It's a total disgrace. It's all pops fault. He started this mess. Players whining about rest etc. Silver is weak.

College football is the only sport that I have watched a complete game...NFL, NHL, NBA are impossible to watch all of...

MLB is the worst of the worst though

I have to admit I watch game after game of the NBA and NHL. Might need to go to therapy for my addiction. I think Fanduel and handicapping have a lot to do with it though.

We've hit a time, after about 15 games, when some of the sharper and more influential money and decision making enters the markets.

The results we see are tied with the lines and bookmaking tecniques. Either some bettors are getting emboldened with their wins, or other bettors are getting demoralized.

Those getting emboldened will give it back foolishly and those getting demoralized may not be around for the payouts.

Either way, give it some time and these markets will settle down. In my opinion, it's just a fad.

I don't think it's a fad. It's a mentality that coaches are adopting. Why would they stop doing it?

Yeah but what else are you gonna watch?

What are we going to read books? Volunteer to help the less fortunate?

Go to the park and count the number of smashed bottles?

    Spend time with loved ones?

Its fukkin 35 degrees here right now. I am barrelled in. I have no friends or family who give a shit about me.

    Drink and watch games.

    Why?

    Without this we have NOTHING.

I meant the blowout final results are a fad, not what the coaches do with the players.

This isn't about the coaches or the players, this is about what I said in my post. This is about steering money and bettors in all kinds of directions to simply churn money off the top.

Eventually it will come to a head and things will settle down. Then, when games start ending closer to the spreads, bettors will start saying how the lines are sharp, even if they move several ponts to get there.

It takes patience to ride these markets out...with that knowledge, take advantage if you can.

The NFL has a handful of good teams and the rest are mediocre at best. NBA is the same way, the regular season is a cash cow, no one wants to go all out for a playoff seeding. In the NHL too many guys get hurt and baseball's season is waaay too long! Professional sports is a big business, college isn't far behind. The glory days of watching the greats do it night in, night out are long gone. It's all about TV contracts, advertising and big buck$. Money has taken the heart out of everything.

NBA sucks but they made this bed so they have to lie with it

They decided to market individual players instead of teams. When the Cavs play the Lakers its not Cavs vs. Lakers but Kobe vs. LeBron.

This and the clear rigging of playoff games to get desired matchups

At first I want to say that they've always marketed individuals and matchups, but I think you're right because back when the NBA exploded the individuals were all great team players. The matchups billed also became the teams billed.

Exactly. Look at the 94/95 Rockets. Hakeem and Clyde were great players but they were also great team players. Michael Jordan and Kobe turned the league into an individual league. It's all about the stars now. NBA went down this road now they have to deal with the consequences.

Another NBA problem is that it tries too hard to appeal to the lowest common denominator IE the group with an average IQ of 85. The new t-shirt uniforms are attrocious and so are the stupid nickname uniforms where instead of for example Portland it says Rip City. That appeals to a certain demographic with an average IQ of 85. It alienates more affulent fans. Cater to the Beats by Dre crowd, deal with the consequences.

Unless NBA starts to become less than hugely profitable, I see no reason the board will change the system. You want to watch super-competitive and unpredictable games, watch Samoan rugby or something.
