Josh Smith signs with Clipper Nation

Wow! Big news considering the situation with him and the rockets. Rockets one step away from finals. Clippers can't offer him squat, money-wise. Guess all players are looking towards next years salary cap boost, who knows

If you can't beat em sign em. Clippers make some bad decisions.

Where's the money coming from? Is he playing for meals next year?

No excuses for CP and crew next year, arguably the strongest roster in the league.

Smith is still due $25M from the Pistons because they released him and chose the stretch provision (5 years) to pay him his remaining $25M, so he'll still be getting paid $5M annually by the Pistons for the next 5 years. The $1.5M that he's "taking" from the Clippers merely reduces what the Pistons still owe him on the annual $5M.

So, for next year, he'll be getting paid $3.5M from the Pistons ($5M Pistons portion minus $1.5M Clippers portion) and $1.5M from the Clippers - so it's still only $5M total for next year regardless of how you slice it.

And if/when Smith signs a new contract with someone else next offseason, the same thing will happen where his "new" salary will simply reduce what the Pistons still owe him.

He's a good player as long as his head is in the game… I think it's an upgrade for the clippers

personally don't like Josh Smith (though he's dirt cheap for Clips), but replacing Barnes and Hawes with Pierce, Stephenson, and Smith is theoretically a nice depth upgrade on paper.

however, Stephenson and Smith are true wildcards with decision making and both Jordan and Smith will be hacked in 4th qtrs. let's see if Rivers can manage the moods of Smith, Stephenson, and Jordan while not letting them aggravate Paul and Griffin. Pierce will be key with leadership as well.
