Bulls have offered Jimmy Butler max deal

@ericsports: The Bulls giving Jimmy Butler a max qualifying offer means no team can offer him a contract with less than 3 guaranteed years

Butler said he wants a short term deal with lakers. Too many these guys want to be Lakers smh

There's max and then there's max. Different players have different maxes. Coming off his rookie deal, Jimmy's max is 5/90. Given the current climate and the new CBA coming, that's a bargain. Plus, they had to do it. Can't let him leave. Bulls might be hopeless as long as Lebron looms, but having Butler, whose one of the best defending Lebron, can only help.

Some guys here don't know how to be creative. That's why u are not a gm. Could see a starting 5 of deandre, lebron, Aldridge, Wade, love, with Kobe and butler Coming off the bench. Mitch kupchcick will figure it out

the Bulls need to dump Rose in the worst way possible, even if it means taking on Melo in return. with Rose gone, Butler would be a lot more willing to re-sign with the Bulls long term.

Butler can always play next season under the Bulls' qualifying offer and then become an UFA in 2016. so the Bulls really don't have as much control over Butler as they may think.

There's nothing to figure out. Butler is returning to Chicago, either on a 1 year (4.4 mil) or 3 year (50 mil) or 5 year (90 mil) deal. I suppose they could sign-and-trade him, but I don't see that happening. He'd have to be a high stakes gambler of the highest order to take the 1 year deal.

Yes, if he's willing to take only 4.4 mil next season and roll the dice hardcore. Considering he can easily get paid another 14 mil next season plus lock in a ton more guaranteed money, he'd have to be truly nuts to do that. I think he knows that the Bulls know that he knows that the Bulls know....that he ain't gonna do that.

He might do the 3/50 though.

agreed that it'd be quite risky on his part, but he already did it once this past season. he's most likely just trying to play a little hard ball right now with the hope that it can somehow materialize in a Rose trade. problem is, it'd be extremely difficult to find a trade partner for Rose since no one wants him.

totally amateurish move by the Bulls administration.
Fire the coach whose made your team competitive, then offer to drastically overpay
a player who had one big year and doesn't even want to be there.

there is no wonder how or why these people are in positions of decision-making,
they have the money, but not the minds.
pretty much anyone on this forum could do a better job running a team.

The difference is the Bulls had lowballed him and he knew if he performed he'd be in line for a lot more. Not so if he takes only 4.4 now. Bulls had offered like 5/60. Now he can take 5/90. If he settles for 4.4, he won't be able to make up the difference with a lot more and would be taking a huge risk. He can't do it.

The MQO would not be a drastic overpay. Not at all.

Offering the MQO made sense under the situation.

Not gonna defend GarPax generally though.

And Jimmy has never said he doesn't want to be there. Every time he has been asked, he has said he wants to stay. Why assume he was lying?

There is little doubt that Butler will take the 3 year deal. The 1 year is too risky and he won't do it, but since since the league's new mega tv contract starts in 2016-2017 season, when the 3 year contract is up he will likely get even more.

He should do a 1 year plus player option. Bulls won't let him leave, might as well screw them over.

All it takes is one player to think he's MAX. Now every player will want MAX. Then it sparks a huge payroll increase near cap level for every NBA team. Unreal.

The 5th year is a player option so he'll become a FA in 4 years. Maybe the Bulls will be able to move Rose to a contender at the deadline next year, or to someone else next offseason. In addition, Gasol, Noah, Gibson, and Dunleavy each have age and/or injury issues, so they're looking at a major rebuild within 2-3 years. They're basically stuck until then with the only hope that Hoiberg can be the difference.

I wonder if there might be a taker for a deal for Noah. Someone who thinks he could be a key to put them over the top next season?

I read on a Bulls' blog and elsewhere about a month ago that Noah might be facing microfracture in the very near future, which has made his market value highly questionable at this point (last offseason's surgery appears to not have been sufficient afterall). Otherwise, he would've been a great movable asset this offseason at only $13M due in his final year.

His offensive game has always been poor, but he literally can't score anymore and even his FT shooting dipped. His blocks last season were career low, so even his rim protection value has been hurt. Only good thing he has left at this point is rebounding. If he truly needs microfracture, he might as well just do it now on the Bulls' dime. If he has another poor year where the knee is still an obvious issue, I don't see how he'll get anything more than a 1 year, veteran mid-level type of deal next offseason as a FA.
