Spieth in a good position to cash a lot of his props. It's too bad he gave one back before getting out of the day, -3 was solid. I'm actually glad he's not winning, it can be tough to lead after the first day and still win the whole thing.

I like this spot for him.

Will be interesting to see if they toughen the course up. Players took it apart yesterday. I say -10 wins

    Rained overnight a little.
They have to toughen up the setup. Too many players under par, like 24. Double digits under par for the winner would be a failure for the USGA.

My human nature lock of the day is Fowler over Woods. Tiger called the kid out at his presser saying "At least I beat Ricky"
Ricky is going to be laser focused today.

Tiger lost the edge to play

He is too rich also and does not want to play weekly and get his game better

Tiger can come back and win again if he wants to. Problem is he knows how much work it takes to get his game back to that level and it doesn't seem like he is willing to put in that amount of time. He's 40 years old with kids that are coming of age plus he has all the money in the world. Not enough motivation there imo.

He is working as hard as ever. The magic is gone. The putts don't drop. The back is stiff. It's golf, it's so fickle, it's he hardest game in the world to play well. It's makes you want to quit. The harder you try, the worse it gets. He will never play good again. It's over.

I disagree about how hard he's working. I don't think he's putting in nearly the amount of time he once did.

Good point. Of course not, he's 39, but he's TRYING as hard as he can.
My point is: Trying hard doesn't work in golf.
The game has left him and he will never win another major.

That's possible. But golf isn't like other sports. He could turn it around and win this year. Not likely given what we've seen but he could figure things out tomorrow to be honest. I shot 80-74 in a tournament starting the year. Two weeks later I shot 66-68-72 and finished top 5. I figured 1 little thing out and everything clicked. Tiger easily could do that. My point is just to not completely write him off. Things can change quickly.

Indeed, we are dealing with professionals here. Completely writing anyone off over the short or long term comes with pitfalls.

But someone made a great point in the thread above about motivation, certainly something to think about with Tiger.

Also, Tiger seems to be one of the first in a generation of young golfers that swing the shit out of the club, drive very far, and are likely causing grave damage to their bodies. It will be interesting to see what some of these other young guns, like Rory, Spieth, etc, can do when their backs say enough is enough and they are hoping surgeries will bring them back, not unlike Woods.

Edit: lol...that poster talking about motivation was lotterypick...lol

with the exception of damaging their backs and having some kind of surgery, like Tiger, I tend to agree.

I actually think Tiger's epic fall from grace is good for golf and America.

It teaches kids 3 great lessons:

No matter how good you get, you can still suck someday, so be humble and treat people with respect on the way up.
Do steroids and your body will break down.
Treat people like crap and you will be unhappy in life.

    I Also see no downside:

Who really cares if pro golfers make less money? Or any pro athletes for that matter?

Announcers and coverage atrocious. At least Lefty got himself a little grab of Holly Sonders:

Spieth holding back a bit today, he showed he can do it in the early holes and again in the late holes. This is his tournament to lose.

All the Spieth props in great position now.

Spieth about 2-1 sitting on top of lists I see and about -125 or so vs. Dustin Johnson for the fourth round.

Could essentially "sell back" the Spieth top US Player +500 at a rate of +115. That Dustin Johnson +115 vs. Spieth looks like a sucker bet to me.

In my opinion, Spieth and his caddy have the entire field right where they want them.

As for me, I'm pressing...get Spieth +205 to win it all. And Spieth -125 vs. Johnson, both at 5 Dimes.

    Let's bring this home.
